The White House has ordered U.S. intelligence agencies to produce a worldwide study of Moslem religious movements in the wake of the Islamic revolt that helped drive the shah of Iran from his country this week, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was told yesterday.
Administration officials disclosed at a closed-door committee hearing that Zbigniew Brzezinski, the president's national security adviser, ordered the study. These officials emphasized that the existence of the request was considered highly sensitive by the administration, because of the growing political impact of Moslem fundamentalism in many areas of the world.
The Carter administration is being charged in Congress and elsewhere with a major intelligence failure in discounting the strength and importance of the Iranian protest, which was spearheaded by Moslem religious leaders.
Asked about the report of the White House ordering an intelligence study of Moslem fundamentalism, Sen. Frank Church (D-Idaho) said that after "the intelligence failure" in Iran, "I have to wonder if we are competent to manage an intelligence gathering program on anything."

Wonder what the reaction would be if President Bush ordered such a study.

Well, Jimmy showed his ignorance by allowing the Shah to be deposed and thus radical Islam gained it's first county in the middle East.

Sen. Frank Church (D-Idaho) said that after "the intelligence failure" in Iran, "I have to wonder if we are competent to manage an intelligence gathering program on anything."So said the illustrious, camera-hogging senator from my home state (at the time) while he was busily tearing down America's intelligence organizations.
Truly a dangerous, seditious democRAT.

Patience! You're gittin too excited!! Nothin to see here, so move along!!! (that's what the mainstream editorial extablishment will undoubtedly say)
Now, maybe if Drudge, or Rush, or Hannity, or Hewitt, or Will, or Buckley, or Cheney, or (put your favorite here) picks it up...

Interesting study, considering Mr. Carter called Khomeini a kind religious man and helped drive Mohammad Reza Pahlavi from power in Iran.

No one did more to destroy America's intelligence capabilities, other than Carter, besides Frank Church.

I'm sorry. I don't buy this.
Carter/Church et al worked 24/7 to destroy our CIA and other intel gathering info.
If any profiling was done, Carter profiled the rich Opecker Thugs and Princes to shake them down for money.
I think that the Post is trying give their good ole peanut boy some cover here.
Carter enabled the mass murdering Mullahs to take over Iran, and that was the beginning of modern Islamofascist terrorism against Israel, the US and many other countries.
People can check the bookmarks on my homepage to see about how Carter has been in bed with the Islamofascists for decades.
The Post must feel that Iraq is about to undergo a massive regime change. When this happens a lot of truth of Jimmy and his mullah buddies will be coming out. So the liars at the Post are trying to make Carter look like he was tough with the bad Arabs. I have two letters for this, BS!

When Regime change comes to Iran, there will be a lot of very embarrassing data that floats out against Carter, Clintoon, Chiraq, the Germans and the Russians.
The Washington Post created Deepthroat, so it is very easy for them to create "Carter, the tough president against nasty Arabs!"

More than making Carter look somehow "good" I think it points out the hypocrisy of Demos and Liberals in general over their supposedly "politically correct" gloming onto the cause against "profiling" of ANY kind!!!
But... Then again, you might be right because I know Billie and Jimmy and the Clintons all have leaned away from Isreal toward the Persians and Arabs. And as always... They ALWAYS lean against the USA's best interests with their every living breath!!!

250,000 Americans welcome Iran and the Shah and Wife to the United States.

1962 visit to the U.S. (from left): Mrs. Jackie Kennedy, Mohammad Reza Shah and Farah Pahlavi, President John F. Kennedy.

The Nixon Administration was the strongest ally the Shah had. Nixon urged officials to give the Shah "Whatever he wanted", and consistently backed the Shah's fight against Islamic Fundamentalism and Communist terrorists.

Queen Farah Pahlavi visits the Carters

Mohammad Reza Shah (second left) meeting with U.S. President Jimmy Carter (second right) in Tehran. (December 31 1977 or January 1, 1978). The Iranian side also included Ardeshir Zahedi (first left) who was Iran's ambassador to Washington at the time. The U.S. delegation included National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski (first right), Secretary of State Cyrus Vance (third right), and U.S. Ambassador to Tehran William Sullivan (fourth right). This is the administration that will ultimately recommend the backing of Khoemini and would pull the carpet under from under the Shah's feet.

Iran was one of Israel's strongest allies. Read history.

Cyrus Vance:
Let me tell you, all of this nonsense about the Shah being imperiled is just right wing nonsense. It'll never happen! You have my word.
James Earl Carter:
(Nods head thoughtfully.)
Ahhhhhh agree with your assessment of de situation.
(NSC, State Dept. and DOD staff are convened, 1980)
Warren Christopher:
This hostage rescue will be a lock! That Vance is just a nervous Nellie! Let me tell you, those hostages will be rescued as sure as you'll be elected this coming November.
President Carter
(Nods head thoughtfully.)
Ahhh fully truss you and your staff. A-OK!
Zbigniew Brzezinski It's a lock. As sure as I am Eastern European, and talk with a funny accent, Khomeini will fold like a house of cards.

The never ending story. The perpetual tragicomedy of human existence, certainly not unique to American history.. Repeated at every level of society from the most humblest of Stage 2 playhouses on up.

You know, there is video (unless of course CNN destroyed it) of Zbiggy with his hip Ray-Bans and short sleeve shirt in Afghanistan giving a pep talk to the mujihadin. He tells them "defeat them (the Soviets) for GOD. You think he could have told them to win one for the "Gipper" instead?

Well, we should have stuck with Masood!
But that's another story altogether.
One whose consequences we are still living with today.
Unfortunately.

Yup.
He should have stuck with Billie and managed their parent's peanut farm.
We all would have been a lot better off.
