Edwards Invokes 2000 Recount in Florida (Lies, Lies, and More Lies)

Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards (search) pledged from the pulpit of a black church on Sunday that the party will work hard to head off the kind of Florida ballot irregularities that Democrats assert gave the White House to George W. Bush.
"We will get voters registered. We will get voters mobilized. We will get voters to the polls," the North Carolina senator told the congregation of St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church (search).
A scant 537 votes delivered Florida and the presidency to Bush after a protracted legal battle resolved by the Supreme Court.
The race seems as close this year as then, and both parties have been working hard to prevail and win the state's 27 electoral votes.
"The eyes of the world will be on Florida again this year," said AME Church Bishop McKinley Young in introducing Edwards.
In five days of solo campaigning, Edwards had been reaching out to minorities -- Hispanics in Southern California, blacks here -- as well as attending a round of fund-raisers in an effort to raise as much last-minute money as possible before the Democratic National Convention (search) next week.
Blacks, who as a group voted overwhelmingly for Democrat Al Gore (search) in 2000, say they were disproportionately affected by the 2000 election abuses, including the failure to count thousands of votes, many of them in black neighborhoods.

This scumbag is just as nasty as SKerry... he just does it with a smile. Lying liberal weasels...
When is someone in the media finally going to ask one of these clowns, Jessie Jackson, that ugly fat wig-wearing FL congresswoman, anyone making these charges, for PROOF of the charges?
To: NYC Republican
What about the FACT that nearly every area in FL was headed by a Dem (all except one, which was overseen by an Independent).

To liberals its not the truth, the facts, or the data that matters. Its the seriousness of the charge leveled that's what counts. Which is why Little Johnny can keep waving the "bloody shirt" of the debunked claims about a stolen election in Florida long after the country moved on.

Of course this doesn't count the ballots
from the panhandle republicans who were effected by
the press calls of a Gore win prior to the close of polls.
Democrats, pathetic but dangerous never the less.

The answer to your question is, IMHO, when HELL freezes over! These liberals don't know the truth, don't seek the truth, nor do they tell the truth. They are, as the tile of an old TV show goes "Lost In Space".

Also, saw a clip on SeeBS of Kerry during a campaign rally in Florida, where he said that "We're going to go down there and teach all those Republicans in Palm Beach County how to count ballots!" This is the first time I've ever heard that Palm Beach County is a Republican stronghold.

They also conveniently forget that judge Sauls, a Democrat, ruled against Gore before his decision was wrongly overturned by the Florida Supreme Court. In legal actions, Gore lost three of four rounds.
To: Old Sarge
The only "disenfranchised" folks you ever hear about are the blacks, yet there's not ONE proven case of intimidation or fraud... There's always ballots that aren't counted- in FL in '00, 5.4% of white votes weren't counted primarily because of voter error, and 4.5% of black votes weren't counted, for the same reason... Who's disenfranchised??? Your point about the military is also a good one...
Again, SKUMBAG SKERRY and his lover Breck Girl are disgraceful, as are the media for not asking a single question... Where's your proof?

If you punch out the chads for more than one candidate, it is impossible for your vote to be counted. This is not an abuse. It is a necessary part of the election process. Just how are we suppose to count a ballot that is marked twice?
As far as these election "abuses" go, I still have yet to hear of one documented case of a person (of color, any color, including white) who was properly registered, went to the correct polling place during the assigned voting hours, who filled out a ballot properly, and whose vote was not counted.
To: Ben Hecks
Good point! I had forgotten that.

Actually, there WERE two kinds of discrimination against Florida voters in 2000. Folks who have done their homework honestly know that black REPUBLICAN votes were not counted at the highest possible level in Florida. And dominantly REPUBLICAN votes in the Florida panhandle were discouraged from voting by the networks (accidentally?) calling Florida for Gore before the polls had closed in the panhandle.
But Edwards is a trial lawyer. He can be expected to bury inconvenient facts, and lie to the people (jury) in order to get whatever he wants.

A scant 537 votes delivered Florida and the presidency to Bush after a protracted legal battle resolved by the Supreme Court. A few more inconvenient factoids:
- Bush's margin was 1800 votes before the overseas ballots were counted.
- Gore's lawyers disqualified a majority of the overseas (mainly military) ballots on such idiotic technicalities as lacking a postmark-- then high-fived each other for their cleverness.
- The military votes which got through gave Bush an additional 900 vote margin and those which were disqualified would likely have produced a similar number.
- So even without the 10,000 votes or so which the panhandle would have produced, there was around a 4000 vote margin-- more than Gore got in New Mexico and comparable to what he got in Iowa and Wisconsin.
- The margin was whittled down to the infamous 537 votes only after DNC operatives were allowed to manufacture additional votes in carefully selected heavilly Democrat precincts in West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami by a partisan Florida Supreme Court.
- The Supreme Court rulings could have been used to throw out all of these manufactured votes as a violation of the equal protection clause (i.e., votes of imbicles who can't follow an arrow and poke a hole count for more than those putting their life on the line and unable to obtain a postmark due to circumstances beyond their control).
Bill Sammon's excellent book At Any Cost details all of the above and more.
