1. How long has the media been sitting on this story, and what happened to force them to report it now?
2. The media will, of course, immediately look to change the subject by making the leak the story, deflecting attention away from the fact that once again, Rats have been caught red-handed destroying evidence to cover their tracks. Which Bush Administration official will be accused of leaking this "for political gain"? My money's on Dick Cheney.
It is probably too much to ask that Kerry be asked to comment on this, but I hope he is. I suppose he'd cite an "ongoing investigation" and say he has faith and trust in Berger. *cough*
Are you politically astute or what? Governsleastgovernsbest's Today Show report this morning includes this quote:
Gergen than went way beyond a mere defense of Berger's honesty and patriotism. He decided to perpetrate a smear of Republicans and by extension the Bush administration. Claimed Gergen: "It's rather suspicious to Berger's associates that the story would leak just before the 9/11 Commission report is due out. He's been investigated for months. A man of utter integrity who served this country well. This is a distraction from the findings of 9/11 Commission."
Kudos to you, CFC__VRWC!
It's all OK because there were backup copies.
As NSA chief, Berger knew that there were backup copies, so that's what made it OK for him to take them.
Now I know that the reason for the emphasis on Berger's story this morning is to plant the supposedly "exculpatory" story about the backup copies.
