Pretty much a native, although born in Virginny. Plus, lived in Delaware at one point as a young child. Parents pretty much kept coming back to Maryland and decided to settle here. Me, I'd be just as happy to move further south.

I'd like nothing more than to get rid of Social Security, or at least have an opt-out where I could invest that ~15% for myself. Even taking a conservative investment strategy would probably give me a better ROI than Social Security.

I've got a pension and a 401(k). I don't need or want Social Security, yet I'm forced to pay into it - and as someone at the beginning of their working life (mid-20s), the thought of paying into a fund that likely won't be around in 50 years is depressing.

But you must STAY to save MD - and spread the "red" states (we used to be blue, y'know - I think the lib media finally decided there was too much connection between Demonrats and "RED")! ;-)

So what happens to all that money "you" don't get, cuz of dying? That's a windfall for the gov?

It's a windfall for the guy who outlives you and collects more than he put in. It also pays for SSI claims for the disabled.

When you sit down and pencil it out, there's not a lot of spare cash floating around. If I recall correctly, their admin. costs are actually a little less than private insurers.

The big issue is the return on investment for all that money they're holding for future claimants. That's where you'd be a heck of a lot better off being able to self-direct it into private investments.

I know Sarah Yoest Pederson. I just can't remember from where. Any info on her?

Never heard of her. This paper seems to be a small "Hometown" newspaper. Nothing turns up on a yahoo search either.

They're working on that. Just going to send it to Mexico, so all of the illegals can retire back home in comfort, sucking on our collective teat.
