Berger Story -- Dem Talking Points -- It's The Timing of the Leak, Not the Offense!
CNN ^ | 07-20-04 | cww

Posted on 07/20/2004 1:09:02 PM PDT by CWW

Have you noticed the consistent media spin about the theft of the confidential documents by former Clinton National Security Advisor Sandy Berger -- "It's the timing of the leak that's curious" -- not the fact that Berger engaged in illegal conduct they may invovle Clinton or Kerry.

I have now heard this spin on CNN radio, Fox News and, of course, the Today Show.

If Berger had been a Republican, do you think the media would give a rats a@@ abouth the "timing of the disclosure?"

The real question, that the lamestream media isn't asking, is what was so important that the former National Security Advisor would stuff highly-classified documents down his pants and socks!?

With a mole working the National Archives assisting, how do we know Berger was the only official doing this?

If berger were a Republican, the story would have been on the front page of the NY Slimes, above the fold, under a banner headline, and the rest of the national lamestream media would be covering it like white on rice.

I'm having a hard time remembering if Republicans questioned the 'timing' of the Abu Ghraib leak. Maybe that's because...they didn't.

Well, it is a vast right wing conspiracy. They must have all gotten the memo by now.

Another question Berger needs to be asked is, "Is that a file in your pants, or are you just glad to see me?"

Actually, the timing IS suspicious.

This has been known by the principals for months. It came out during the lull before media scrutiny intensifies for the conventions, but after the 9/11 panel coverage would have raised disturbing questions.

And MOST suspiciously, it crossed the tape exactly at a moment when it would just miss most am newspaper deadlines.

Are they kidding us? These democrats are beyond despicable: evil, traitorous, dangerous, incompetent, power-mad, unimaginably dishonest.

The time has come to destroy these enemies of the United States, just as we would destroy the North Korean ruling class or the Iranian mullahs.

great question! Add to the list this question: Doesn't Berger's incompetent/criminal behavior raise questions about the competence of Clinton's national security team? Doesn't this prove that Berger was more of a second rate political hack than someone qualified to be National Security Advisor?

Hmmmm...

If I recall correctly, the Abu Ghraib prison story was being investigated by the Army back in January as soon as they found out about it, but the media didn't report on it until a few months ago. Suspicious timing or just time to report it after the investigation was complete?

Now we have this story, where the theft of top secret documents was being investigated, and then after the investigation is complete and documents retrieved, the results are released.

Since when has the spiking of news and the timed release of it become more important than just releasing the news of an investigation once the investigation concludes?

Well, it was similar with the Dem Judiciary and Intel memos---the Pubbies didn't get any traction out of the memos' contents, but the Dems got a boost by their feigned rage at 'who leaked it.'

The trouble is, the Pubbies folded on both issues. I would bet the Pubbies will fold on this too, and it will just disappear. The Pubbies seem completely inept and incapable of capitalizaing on events whenever Dems get caught with their hands in the cookie jar or caught with their pants down.

Ask a person protesting the timing of this "leak" if they would have preferred it to come out before this, or after this?

"The real question, that the lamestream media isn't asking, is what was so important that the former National Security Advisor would stuff highly-classified documents down his pants and socks!"

At least some of the documents appear to be related to the Millennium Plot Report. Ashcroft has detailed some of what was conatined in the report.

The most damaging information is that Clinton was briefed concerning Al Qaeda activity in America and did absolutely nothing. Not only that, but he didn't brief the Bush administration as to the fact that Al Qaeda was active in America and was planning a major attack.

That is precisely what they believe.

It won't work, not on this. Republicans might well be inclined to provide him the "benefit of the doubt". They might cower beneath the weight of the media. The American public will not.

This is serious, it doesn't take lengthy discussion to outline the fact. It involves 9-11. It is sensational enough to arouse curiosity. Sandy once assumed office comparable to Condi Rice. He is connected to both Clintons as well as Kerry. Richard Clarke is being connected to this incident.

This is not comparable to the judicial scandal.

This is huge DESPITE the media or Democrats and they know it.

It's like the Kennedy staff conspiring to table judicial nominations with the NAACP. That isn't as important as discoving the conspiracy by reading someone else's email. Keep this away from Orrin Hatch so they don't get away with it this time.

If anything it adds to the sting. The report is coming out in a few days and this will be in the news for at least that long. If it came out after the report it wouldn't leave as big as a impact. Someone either just out played the commission or someone who knew something about this got a conscience.
