Pregnant Woman Disappears While Jogging Tuesday, July 20, 2004
SALT LAKE CITY — In a case reminiscent of the disappearance of Laci Peterson, a 27-year-old pregnant woman vanished during her daily morning jog, and distraught family and friends turned out Tuesday to search for her.
Lori Kay Hacking, who is five weeks pregnant, went out about 5:30 a.m. Monday, heading from her Salt Lake City home to nearby City Creek Canyon and Memory Grove park for a run.

It's possible that her abductor had no idea she was pregnant.

She was cute, wonder what exactly happened.
They just don't know how to do a news story without mentioning the Petersons.
Yet, as I read the accompanying story, I have to say the husband is in a bad spot.
He is, of course, an automatic "person of interest" and his alibi is that he was home asleep by himself when she was abducted.
Not a very strong alibi at all.

Last week, a 50-something deaf woman -- a part-time missionary on Temple Square -- was walking through a parking lot just a few blocks from Memory Grove. It was 6:30 a.m., and she was on her way to Temple Square to do her volunteer work, when she was attacked, beaten and raped.
Downtown Salt Lake City is getting scary.
Memory Grove usually has a lot of people in it during the day. A lot of downtowners jog there during lunch hour. I don't know what it is like during the early morning hours.
It's not a place you would take your kids, and it's not a place where a normal man would use the men's room, though.
Until all honest decent Americans are 'allowed' by their govt to carry concealed weapons and use them on violent criminals to save their own lives or the lives of their loved ones and neighbors ...there will be no Homeland Security...

Thought you might find this interesting. At five weeks, this young woman would not be visibly pregnant. She certainly visibly beautiful looking though :-(
I said a prayer for her, and her family. The days of jogging at 6am, by yourself, are over.
Funny you should mention that. After I read the story, it made me think of mandatory side arms for all adults. Well, most adults...
The cops can only clean up the mess and try and find the perp. They aren't God, and they aren't superhuman. They cannot be everywhere preventing things like this from happening.
All democRATS must be excluded from the "must carry" requirement -- just as they must be prohibited from talking on the cell phone and driving at the same time.

Ohhhh, the cell phones! The first thing that we noticed when we moved back down to an urban area was all the people driving with cell phones glued to their ears...and not paying attention to where they were going.
I'd hate to see them handling firearms with a phone permanently stuck to their ears.
That's because they are fair and balanced.

Remember Carly Bruscia? She was the girl whose abduction was caught on tape. After I saw that, I revoked my 9 yr old's walking home from school privelege. This was the first year she was allowed to walk home from school. I teach my kids street smarts and to walk in groups, but sometimes it isn't enough. Besides my eyesight, I no longer go out after dark if I can help it.
And the nitwits wonder why our kids are getting fat...

About the time this woman's husband starts going on business trips to Mexico to "hang up flyers", and making repeated calls to his girlfriend, I'll say that Scott has a twin brother.

I saw that too! I admit I laughed when I saw it, even though that situation is no laughing matter!

She's very pretty. There could be an infatuated nutcase out there. She worked at a bank and had extensive contact with the public. Apparently her husband and she were moving down South for his education.
At least if she's been kidnapped, there is a chance that she can be rescued.

I kept thinking that I recognize the husband's dad. I just realized, he's a pediatrician here in Utah Valley. I've taken one of my grandkids to him. What a nice guy. What a tragedy for everyone if his son did this.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The families of Mark Hacking and his missing wife were stunned to learn just moments before their news conference that he had not graduated from college or been accepted at a medical school, as he had said.
``We were of the impression that he had graduated from the University of Utah recently, and just found out a few minutes ago that he never applied to medical school in North Carolina,´´ Douglas Hacking, the visibly shaken father of Mark Hacking, told the news conference Wednesday.
The news conference was delayed briefly while police told families what officers had known for at least a day of the discrepancies that The Associated Press had just reported.
Mark and Lori Hacking had been preparing to move within the next few days to North Carolina, where he said he had been accepted for medical schools.
But on Monday, he reported his wife missing, saying she never returned from a morning jog. And on Wednesday, the University of North Carolina said he had never applied to the medical school.
Also, the University of Utah said he was enrolled at the Salt Lake City university from spring 1999 to fall 2002, majoring in intermediate psychology, but never graduated....snip

it's like the wife JUST found out she's married to some liar and that the whole time he has been talking about moving to NC he's been making it up as he goes along ... she confronts him ...

Mark has to have a screw loose to think he could get away with this lie.
His father is a very fine pediatrician. I've taken one of my grandkids to him when they were staying at my house.
Mark comes from a large family. If I had to guess, I'd guess that most of them were achievers like their father. Mark couldn't or didn't want to cut it, but he didn't tell anyone, including his wife. He just pretended to go to school for two years, then pretended to be accepted to medical school.
In an interview last week, his father said that he and his wife were planning to drive out to Chapel Hill this week to settle them in their apartment. Mark's house of cards was about to come tumbling down. Maybe Lori found out the truth and Mark killed her in a panic. Or maybe she didn't know, and Mark thought that her disappearance would give him an excuse for not going to medical school that everyone would believe.
Who knows?
But, again, he has to have a screw loose to keep up this elaborate lie.
And what about the Mattress the husband bought the morning of her disappearance? That doesnt look good for him. Why would you buy a mattress AND be moving at the same time?
Its an inside job, my gut is telling me.
I take comfort in knowing GOD will be with us the hour of our death.
