WASHINGTON (AP) - Former national security adviser Sandy Berger, the subject of a criminal investigation over the disappearance of terrorism documents, stepped aside on Tuesday as an informal adviser to Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.
"Mr. Berger does not want any issue surrounding the 9/11 commission to be used for partisan purposes. With that in mind he has decided to step aside as an informal adviser to the Kerry campaign until this matter is resolved," said Lanny Breuer, Berger's attorney.
The investigation had threatened to become a political problem for Kerry a week before his nominating convention in Boston in which he hopes to persuade voters that he is ready to be commander in chief. The cornerstone of Kerry's argument against Bush is that he used faulty intelligence and poor judgment in waging war against Iraq.

So what do you think the chances are that John Kerry is having a real bad day?
It says a lot about the judgment of the Democrats they're defending two people one of whom is under criminal investigation and other exposed as a liar. When it comes to national security, the Democrats couldn't find their behind with their two hands. And they're asking us to trust them with the White House?? They must be joking!

How noble of you, Mr Berger.
If your newspapers did not adequately cover this story, please not only write the editors but ALSO their advertisors. A great grass roots effort would be for all of us to write to the advertisors and tell them we won't buy the papers that are biased. Don't forget to send a copy to the editors
Oh, no. Berger certainly wouldn't want that. I mean, removing classified information related to Clinton and Al Qaeda wouldn't be the least bit "partisan," now would it?
The fat degenerate and liar can't even tell the truth when he's just had his career destroyed by his own stupidity.
Truthfully, he should be going to jail.

watch out: sandy burglar will be lauded as having done the right thing, not like those rotten republicans ..... awoooooooowaaaaahh!!
Notice the AP's use of the passive voice: "the disappearance of terrosim documents," as if Harry Houndini is responsible.
Note to AP: The documents didn't disappear. Berger took them."
Just listen and you can hear Hillary laughing out loud behind the curtain.
I can just see the poor FBI agent with latex gloves checking sandy's pants for evidence....yeeeccchhh. Wonder if they found any paper clips, staples etc.....
Hasn't the investigation been going on for months?
Did Kerry know about the invesitgation?
And he was the NSC man for Klintoon!WADJOKE! What a great ad for pubbies to distribute all around!
Assuming he didn't tell Kerry about this investigation, he's got zero nobility.
If he did tell Kerry, and Kerry kept him, Kerry's got zero judgment.
Well, I have a big smile on MY face and that's an indication of how well I think Kerry's day is going!
Berger's actions are OUTRAGEOUS!
In other words, problem solved. What left wing horse manure. And the rest of the sentence sings a love song to Kerry as "Commander in Chief." Let me think, might it still be a problem that the idiot kerry would have made NS Advisor or Secretary of State is at least incompetent and probably duplicitous with top secret info?
One would think that several DEMS knew.
"The cornerstone of Kerry's argument against Bush is that he used faulty intelligence and poor judgment in waging war against Iraq."
Versus Kerry using stolen intelligence and no judgement in waging a campaing against Bush
"Hey John Boy, this is just a taste of what you can expect if you keep acting like you're going to be President. We're not saying we have anything to do with this; if asked, we'll deny it for the record. But this penny ante stuff is just to give you an idea of what we can do to your campaign if you think you'll be measuring White House drapes come January. If you really think you can win, wait til you see what's coming down the pike. Then we'll see who has the last laugh this year, especially after how you double-crossed my wife on the issue of Convention speaking time. We know who the next Democratic President is going to be and it ain't you. That's all there is to it John Boy."
The investigation had threatened to become a political problem for Kerry ...Had threatened? This is wishful thinking on the AP reporter's part.
Exactly. My theory-Hillary put him up to it and her media lapdogs reveal it just in time for the Boston convention. She's going to rip Kerry and Edwards to shreds. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I still think he needs to share a cell with Jonathon Pollard -- after they put him on the rack to find out what he was doing and who put him up to it. Another report said that he was researching these documents at the behest of "Clinton". My heart is pounding in hope...
Bungling burglar, Berger, bungles, bungled Bush-Bash.
Exactly. You cross the Clintons at your peril.
"Mr. Berger does not want any issue surrounding the 9/11 commission to be used for partisan purposes."
Why not? He stole state secrets for partisan purposes.
"I'm John Kerry, and I served in Vietnam. I'm not a crook, I'm just incompetent, and I surround myself with people who are even more incompetent than I am so I look good in comparison. But you should vote for me anyway, because I'm not George Bush. And besides, I served in Vietnam."
Great campaign theme there, Lurch.

"Okay, Maddy...suppose you stuff them down your, uh, um...in your...Oh, never mind. Sandy's already
got 'em buried in his pockets and down his pants. And this meeting never happened."

He got his denial speech caught in his zipper today.
How do we know he wasn't working for Chirac, for example. This is espionage. Start building the gallows.
Well, I guess quitting was a better option than blowing his brains out!
Knowing that sandy pants stole documents critical to the 911 committee's conclusion, would seem to make their report due out Thursday to be incomplete.
Picture doesn't show up. Just a red X :-(
Did Berger tell Kerry he's under criminal investigation? If not, why not? And did he share classified info with Kerry? If so, why did Kerry retain him?
Rush advised that he should " stay away from Marcie Park. "
Throw Berger in jail for his stealing secret documents. I am sick of people in high office, or in Berger's case, former office, stealing secret documents.
He needs some serious jail time to put a chill on others who might follow his actions.
They've had prior experience in that effort.
I believe that Berger and Hillary planed the entire episode. When Berger went into the Archives he knew he was going to steal those papers, and he knew he was going to resign from the Kerry campaign because of it. This was strictly a set up by Hillary for Hillary's interests.
Maybe Kerry put him up to it, with the explicit intent of having the contents of those notes and draft reports (which apparently paint an unflattering picture of the Clinton administration) made public.
Thanks for this info. I'm printing it for future reference.
What is jfk's role in this unintended consequence? The typical demo response, " I can't recall.) Lock them all up not in the federal pen, but under it. Remember this, Jfk, billy blythe and berger," Lies have short legs." The FBI will catch them I hope. Bush/Cheney2004
