Nuclear arms reportedly found in Iraq

BAGHDAD, July 21 (UPI) -- Iraqi security reportedly discovered three missiles carrying nuclear heads concealed in a concrete trench northwest of Baghdad, official sources said Wednesday. The official daily al-Sabah quoted the sources as saying the missiles were discovered in trenches near the city of Tikrit, the hometown of ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. "The three missiles were discovered by chance when the Iraqi security forces captured former Baath party official Khoder al-Douri who revealed during interrogation the location of the missiles saying they carried nuclear heads," the sources said. They pointed out that the missiles were actually discovered in the trenches lying under six meters of concrete and designed in a way to unable sophisticated sensors from discovering nuclear radiation. The sources said al-Douri, who is related to former Vice Chairman of the Iraq Revolution Council and Saddam's right-hand man Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, was captured after Iraqi police intercepted an e-mail message in which he set a meeting with another former Baath official. The report could not be authenticated by the interior ministry or the national security department, but the paper noted Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshiar Zibari made a surprise request recently to Mohammed el-Baradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, to resume inspections for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

NY TIMES EDITORIAL

Once again, the bumbling Bush administration would present us Lucy Van Pelt's football. In a dubious find, three fully functional nuclear weapons were discovered in Saddam Hussein's private bath.

Yet we are left to ask ourselves -- is a three a 'stockpile'? While nuclear weapons can be a little destructive, are they truly weapons of 'mass' destruction? And, if they haven't been used, don't they prove that Saddam was planning to peacefully acquire these weapons, but never use them?

In Abu Gharib, Iraqi prisoners were made to wear panties on their head. Who is the real terrorist here? George W. Bush!

(and on)

Saddam had nukes, and I thought old Joe Wilson claimed that Iraq was clean and wasn't even soliciting the materials to make nukes.

I do not recall anyone ever claiming that Saddam had nukes, only chemical and biological and was seeking materials to make nukes.

Maybe it was worth serving up Sandy the Burglar to the media whores so this story gets no play prior to the bash in Boston.

If true, Bush has gotten us into a situation where the official Iraqi government is now presenting its nuclear arms to the world community.

O what a difference a year makes!

Democrat politicians were not only WRONG about Iraq, their attitude toward it was almost criminally irresponsible.

IF this proves true, the Democrat convention next week should be VERY interesting, along with the MSM CYA attempts.

That is a good caption pic of Tiny Tom. Definetly has the "Did you really eat something that smelled like that Hillary" look..

Meanwhile, I think we should chill on this story until we actually see/hear someone in a US uniform comment.

What happen to the story yesterday that 30+ sarin artillery shells were found?

Yeah Fox news reported it last night. But they said that they have been finding them over a long period of time. So this won't help, Bush just sat on it and came out with it to hurt the Democrats, so dispite the numbers this doesn't count. Besides they are too old.

I suspect Bush and company are waiting to announce this until after the convention. It will be more effective, if they have a big news conference and announce, we HAVE found WMD's. So far, we have found xx sarin, xx mustand, and xx nuclear WMD's. Will be more effective than 1 here and 1 there. Also, I heard the group that is in Iraq and doing the search for the WMD's will make another report sometime in September. They may wait until after that report. If there is even 1 confirmed Nuclear warhead, the election is over.

"I refuse to get excited over these early reports. We've been burned too many times."

Good Call...

The report could not be authenticated by the interior ministry or the national security department

Lets wait until it is vetted by some fact checkers first.
