NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Sports Network) - The Tennessee Titans have released Eddie George just two days after the star running back rejected a contract proposal and requested a trade.

George is Tennessee's all-time leading rusher with 10,009 yards. The 1995 Heisman Trophy winner was under contract through the 2006 season and was due to earn $4.25 million this season. The team asked George in February to rework his contract and paid him a $1 million roster bonus in March.

George has said that Philadelphia, Tampa Bay and Dallas are potential options and that he looks to move forward in a new situation where he can win a Super Bowl.

The 30-year-old recorded 1,031 yards and five touchdowns in 2003. George then had arthroscopic surgeries on his right knee and left ankle in the off-season.

George has 74 touchdowns in his career, including 10 receiving.

Saying that Eddie George is still a "star running back" is more than just a little bit of a stretch.

Rushing for 1,000 yards in a season in the NFL doesn't really mean all that much anymore, especially when you look at the numbers guys like Jamal Lewis are putting up.

Then why are those teams on his list?

LOL. Probably not so much satire, really. And they'll probably pay him $8.5 million.

Unfortunately he just doesn't have it anymore. His per average carry is well under 4.0 yards. 2001 - 3.0, 2002 - 3.4, and 2003 - 3.3. His lifetime is only slightly better at 3.7.

Very true, however let me be an Eddie apologist for a minute and point out that the Titans offensive game plans in the last couple of seasons have had as much to do with his diminishing numbers as anything.

It used to be all about Eddie, with a dedicated fullback to open up a hole for him. Neither is true now and his numbers show it.

With a healthy Michael Bennet, Ontarrio Smith, and Moe Williams, the Vikings are already set at running back. They'll not be going after Eddie George or any other RB.

Especially when you have only averaged 3.3, 3.4, and 3.0 yards per carry during the last three seasons.

Yes, any team that shells out bucks for Eddie at this stage of his career is not going to the Bowl.

If this had happened last year, I would have entertained the ironic idea of him being signed by Houston, but with their RB Domanick Davis turning out to be a hall of famer in the making, I doubt their interested.

"I doubt their they're interested."

Just for the record, I never do that. Doh!

I was an Eagles fan since the 60's. The team has morphed into a collection of felons hall of famer's. I hope Tim Rosovich, Bill Bergey, Louie Giamona, Trash Garrity, Mark Bavarrro, Mike Quick, Ron Jaworski, and Andre'Waters decide to empty their bladders on the gate entrance to the Eagles Stadium this season. I won't watch one down this season.

I'll stick with Dick Vermeil's old aged, broken down, hard working has beens thank you! No weekly game plan should include alternates due to incarceration, drug posession, paternity lawsuits, rape, DUI's, or murder.

Good point....but when it really mattered (last years Tenn-Balt playoff game):

E George: 25 carries for 88 yards (and if I remember correctly, he gave the other Lewis quite a pop).
J Lewis: 14 carries for 35 yards.

Eddie still has a lot of heart, but I'll agree that he's pretty well done.
