CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The search for 27-year-old Lori Hacking has made an unlikely connection between Salt Lake City and Chapel Hill.Lori Hacking reportedly left her Salt Lake home around daybreak Monday to go jogging and has not been seen since. Mark Hacking, Lori's husband, told family, investigators and the media that he and his wife had planned to move to Chapel Hill to attend medical school, but on Wednesday, WRAL learned that the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has no record of Mark Hacking and that he is not registered to be a student at the medical school this fall. UNC officials also told WRAL that Mark Hacking never even applied to the school. WRAL also checked with Duke Medical School, and Hacking is not registered at that school. WRAL spoke with investigators in Utah and they have no explanation at this point as to why Hacking would lead people to believe he was coming to school in Chapel Hill.

I was afraid of this..
....It's beginning to look a lot like Laci....
Do we have another Snotty Scotty on our hands????
It means one of two things:
1) He is a pathological liar (who would lie on TV like that and not expect it to be discovered?);
2) There is an innocent explanation, like they were planning to move there, live there for a year, and then apply. But after watching people go through the LSATs and med school applications, it's hardly a certainty where you'll go.
Weird.
Same MO. Wife missing. Fast forward 3 days. Husband caught lying about little things. (Husband liar). 4 more days. Husband gets lawyer;house of cards collapses.
well, this certainly makes the husband seem bizarre - could it be the new pregnancy was going to mess up his "fantasy" medical school scenerio?
Uh oh ... husband lying ... already.
He probably concocted the story so that people close to the couple wouldn't be suspicious if the two left town one day, under the guise of his moving to school. Then, the two would never be heard from again, and he would have a head-start on a getaway by the time folks started getting suspicious.
Oh my gosh!
The article says he "planned" to attend UNC Medical School. Doesn't say when. If he told them it was this coming September then he is in deep shite.
I was troubled by the whole deal. He said that she jogged, and got home at 6:30, and he usually drove her to work. On this day he wakes up later in the morning, and calls to learn that she didn't show for work? If I usually went jogging and got home at a certain time, my dear husband, Conspiracy Guy, would wake from the dead and realize that something was amiss!!
My Uh oh meter went off when I heard that he usually dorve her to work but when she didn't show up at work.
Whaaaaaaaat?
That whole account just doesn't fly.
It's too fishy. I thought, too, his family looks so nice. LDS folk and she is sweet in her pictures.
THEN here he is with his bandanna tied around his head on national tv crying, but not really, looking like a biker.
Fox's Shepard Smith just reported that Hacking did not graduate from college but withdrew in 2002. No undergraduate degree no med school, (usually).
I actually graduated medical school without an undergraduate degree - so it can be done!
I know you can get a law degree without and undergrad degree, although it is unusual today.
I wonder if this is why only a few people have shown up to help search?
ROFLMAO!!!
They had something like 700 people out there yesterday. Regardless of who did it, there is still a missing pregnant woman, and you will find no tighter group of people than the Mormons. I may disagree with them on a lot of things, but they will really band together and help eachother out.
Exactly. At this point, it's best to give the benefit of the doubt. People do do this although I'm not sure about doing it for medical school.
I understand, but I saw on MSNBC today that not many showed up today.....one girl was almost crying, begging people to come.
That's because you've trained him so well.
They just showed Lori's mother on TV. She says the husband is devistated(?). Will you count off for schpelling?
There are six year med schools.
Is there one on or near Chapel Hill?
Also consider schools of Chiropracty, Osteophathy etc. They consider themselves medical schools and call themselves doctors.
I am near Chapel Hill.
Never heard of that. At least did not get stuck with all the student loans unlike most.
Here's the family press conference on video:

Hmm, Perhaps it means, I smell a rat!
His father made some very strange comments about the couple's relationship. He was covering up for his son........VERY VERY SAD.
Oh my...I haven't seen that sight. Yikes!!!
Many many people are involved in the search..........
I ain't the skoolteecher! Yes I say her too...very sad.
There are no 6 year med schools near Chapel Hill. I don't think there are any chiropractor schools, and there are no local osteopathic schools.
The father called it Durham University.
I saw on the local news that the police, after a search of the couple's home, confiscated both of their vehicles & their bed mattress among other things (I don't know what else they took).
They also confiscated a dumpster that is somewhere between their house & the place that Lori parks her car to go running.
Will watch for further updates.....
You are right, and a person can take classes for credit without applying for Med School or a specific degree. Many times it is best way, in case you end up wanting to go elsewhere. Those grades are still transferrable.
In fact, most classes are just now registering for the fall through late August. It would be premature to think he was lying at this point, maybe it wasn't going to be done the normal route.
This is starting to remind me of the murder of a young woman who went to my college (not my class, but I overlapped with her). Her husband had supposedly built a successful medical supplies business, in which all his and her relatives had "invested". The charade had been going for years, while she finished law school, practiced law full time for a few years, had a baby and cut back to working part time. They lived in a nice big house near the college, largely financed by the phony investments.
Just when the whole house of cards was about to collapse on him, he drowned her in the bathtub in their home (while their one year old daughter was in the house) and made up a story about an intruder doing it. Turned out there had never been even the tiniest medical supply business, and he'd been spending all the money on call girls and topless dancers. And naturally, there was a sizeable life insurance policy on the wife. He's now locked up for life, and the little girl is being raised jointly by the two sets of grandparents.
It does sound like a stretch of an excuse however. Let's ask an expert. Devil what do you think?
What is it now . . .
1 out of a thousand men is actually tolerable husband material?
Sigh.
I thought that while watching the report on FOXNews last night. Had to scratch my brain when they said she went jogging in an area known to have "homeless" people throughout. Why would a logical thinking, young, gorgeous pregnant girl, put herself in such a place so early in the a.m. and alone?
Also, it appears the husband's lies are already beginning to show up.
About matches the odds we see from the other side.
