Singer Rondstadt Has Found Her Voice? (Another Speech at San Diego Concert, more booing)
MSNBC/San Diego Tribune ^ | 7/22/04 | Jeanette Walls

Posted on 07/22/2004 7:13:34 AM PDT by gopwinsin04

Undaunted after being booted off the stage by the Aladin Casino in Las Vegas for making pro-Michael Moore comments, the singer did an encore speech in a concert Sunday night, again igniting the audience.

'Half the crowd heartily applauded her praise for Moore, the other half booed,' reports the San Diego Tribune.

'In an instant, the outdoor venue on Shelter Island filled with a roar of cheers and jeers the grew to a near fever pitch.'

Rondstadt made a few other political references that evening as well.

She dedicated 'Straighten up and Fly Right' to the good folks at Enron who brought us the energy crisis.

She also poked fun at Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's 'girlie man' comments saying, 'What if you're a female legislator? Does that make you a manly girl, or a manly woman?'

The career destruction tour continues!

What career? Before the incident the other day the last time I heard her name mentioned was in the 70's when she was "dating" CA Governor "Moonbeam" Brown, which also probably happened to be the last time she had a hit song.

I just look at this as an opportunity to see what Natalie Maines will be like in twenty years.....fat, dumb and miserable.

IT'S THE CONTENT, STUPID.

Everybody is talking about where she's saying it, why she's saying and not getting down the real point which is:

What she said isn't true.

Freedom of speech is not a license to lie to yourself and others.

She's free to lie in public, but it's our duty, under the first amendmentment to educate her on exactly how she's been mislead.

'What if you're a female legislator? Does that make you a manly girl, or a manly woman?'

What if you are a washed up, has-been, overweight 4 hit singer, does that make you politically astute or just plain stupid when running your mouth at a consumer paid for concert rather than a self-imposed-upon-the-masses political rally.

Shut up and sing....

She's following the Michael Moore principle, that you can ignite a career by catering to the 5% of liberal wackos who will actually pay tickets to see your work as long as you turn it into some kind of liberal political statement. She's still just a has-been, though.

She's a has-been who is giving her sagging career a shot in the arm with the political crapola. I haven't bought anything of hers in 20 years (& that was for somebody else) and see no reason to ever again, but lefties will probably all rush out to get whatever she has on the market. :-(

You have to put yourself in their shoes. If you were a brainless has-been like Ronstadt or Streisand, and you really believed the Republicans were mean old warmongers who want to take away school lunches and force old people to eat dog food, then you'd probably be passionate about denouncing them, too.

It's the lack of brains that is the real problem for these people.

Natalie Maines? Is she still alive?

Seriously, I haven't heard anything from the Dixie Sluts in quite some time. I never enjoyed their music, but then I'm a fan of real Country Music. I always thought their music was fare for teenaged girls.

After the outcry from their fan base, they declared themselves non-country-music singers, didn't they? They certainly whizzed away millions...

From a purely cynical capitalistic viewpoint, there was some value in LR mouthing off like she has... as least she's getting some press, and her message will appeal to a certain vile segment of the population.

It's not like she had anything to lose, her career being in the toilet and all.

I would tend to give her a break...in some ways. The people she parties with, associates with, talks with are all of a single, superficial mind. And they know absolutely nothing about politics.

Ed Asner, another Hollywood cause warrior for Mumia Abu Jamal, the convicted cop killer, went on O'Reilly to debate O'Reilly, and it was embarassing. I almost felt sorry for Ed. He had his talking points memorized, but as soon as O'Reilly debunked them, Ed was at a loss for words. He was humiliated before everyone. Ed is an actor. He should not presume to think he knows about politics more than anyone else.

More importantly, we need to stop giving people that have talents like acting, or singing, a forum that presumes they know about politics.

Laura Ingraham's book title "Shut up and Sing!" Says it best.

DK

No wonder she has an affinity to Moore. They have a lot in common.

My brother had a BIG CRUSH on Rondstadt when her Heart Like A Wheel album came out. Everyday I'd be forced to listen to Blue Bayou, Love Is A Rose, Desperado, It's So Easy To Fall In Love, Poor Poor Pitiful me, and the rest. My bro was miffed as she began taking African safari trips and shacking up with Gov. Jerry Brown. The bloom was off. The album was 86'ed to the back closet and a large poster of Olivia Newton John with spandex hung in my brother's room. He started listening to Southside Johnny, Bruce Springsteen, and Robert Gordon. If you remind him of Linda Rondstadt, he quickly changes subjects.

Thankfully, my bro moved onto high school graduation, college, family and a real life. Looks like Linda is worse for wear from the love triangle of Gov. Brown and my brother's imagination HAHAHAHA.

You know, I saw that clip of Al Franken "debating" that other SNL guy (on the Tough Crowd), and heard him misquote Golda Meir and totally miss the point on her famous comment about "making us kill their sons". He did it TWICE. I _almost_ felt sorry for the guy. I had heard that Franken was something of a genius, behind the scenes mostly on SNL. He looked so stupid.

I think the only hollywood leftie that I have ever heard speak that actually sounds somewhat honest, informed, and intelligent is the guy from MASH, I forgot his name. Hannity has him on sometimes. Mike Farrel?
