NAGOYA -- A public junior high school teacher who donned a professional wrestler's mask, broke into a female colleague's home and tried to knock her out with a stun gun attack directed at her stomach has been arrested for trying to rape her, police said Thursday.

Shinya Furuki's alleged victim managed to fight off the attack from her colleague, who had already been arrested for trespassing.

Furuki, 49, of Inazawa, Aichi Prefecture, admits to the allegations. Inazawa Board of Education officials were shattered by the case.

"He only moved to Inazawa in April, so I don't know what went on before that, but the news is shocking," a board spokesman said.

Police said Furuki covered his face with the wrestler's mask and broke into the 42-year-old teacher's home in the early hours of Feb. 14, 2000.

While the woman was sleeping, he attacked her with a stun gun, hitting her in the stomach and back in an attempt to render her unconscious so he could rape her, police said.

The woman's resistance was too great, however, and Furuki fled the scene before he complete his vile deed, leaving his colleague with severe burns, police said.

Immediately after the attack, the woman filed a report with the police, but Furuki's disguise and silence during the assault prevented him from being regarded as a suspect.

It was only after he was initially arrested for tresspassing. His CD-ROM containing photos of the female teacher and another woman revealed his involvement, police said.

Furuki asked the woman in April 2000 if she would date him, but she refused. He responded by stalking her and was warned by the Inazawa Police Station to stop persecuting the woman.

He was arrested for trespassing after he sneaked into his colleague's home on several occasions to spy on her while she bathed.
