Linda Ronstadt is a bigot
The Union Leader ^ | July 23, 2004 | Staff

Posted on 07/23/2004 2:19:14 AM PDT by MadIvan

LINDA RONSTADT is doing a fine job of destroying what is left of her fan base.

Last Saturday the owner of the Aladdin hotel and casino in Las Vegas had her escorted off the property after a large chunk of the crowd became enraged when she praised Michael Moore and dedicated the Eagles song “Desperado” to him. After fans booed, defaced her posters and demanded their money back, Ronstadt attempted to justify her blunder with the customary blather about wanting to raise political awareness.

“This is an election year,” she told the Los Angeles Times after the event. “I want people to get their head up out of their mashed potatoes and learn something about the issues and go and vote. . . . I’m not telling them how to vote. I’m saying, get information about the issues.”

Then why didn’t she tell the audience that? And why, in an interview with the San Diego Union-Tribune, published two days before she was removed from the Aladdin, did she say this: “This is an election year, and I think we’re in desperate trouble and it’s time for people to speak up and not pipe down. It’s a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I’d rather not know.”

Her enjoyment? Forget the paying customers; it’s all about Linda.

Ronstadt so despises Republicans and Christians that she has difficulty enjoying her shows if she knows her singing brings pleasure to any of them. Tell us again which side of the political aisle is filled with contempt and hatred?

We aren’t for boycotting an artist just because her political views differ from one’s own. Besides, if conservatives did that, they could never listen to the radio, go to the movies or watch TV. But Ronstadt’s bigotry is enough to make any right-thinking person reconsider purchasing anything that would put money in her pocket.

She thinks she's a much better singer than she is. In that same interview she talks about how she probably would have become an opera singer, if she hadn't gotten caught up in pop. She's in the movie version of "Pirates of Penzance" and it's fairly clear from that that major opera Diva was never a career path for her.

She's a Mexican-American, despite the German name. She's had some good success singing Mexican folk songs. My suggestion is that she decamp for Cancun forthwith, I'm sure there are many tourist joints there who can provide her with gainful employment. Since America s*cks so much.

The problem with calling some non Christians bigots is that they have no enlightened conscience and they'll feel that criticism never applies to them any-ways...but they'll happily turn the phrase around onto Christians...some of whom exercise no wisdom and discernment regarding conscience and faith.

Thus these Christians feel as though they must carry the whole world of "progressivist ideology" on their shoulders instead of their own CROSSES, inadvertantly giving into the evil they are to stand against!

If Ronstadt had said the following

It’s a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a ... fundamental Christian Jew. It can cloud my enjoyment.

that would have been a career ender. No ifs, ands, or buts. No Hollywood celebs talking about censorship and freedom of speech.

I will never understand any of the thinking of these celebrities. Don't they understand approx. half of the population is Republican? Linda Ronstadt has just lost half of her fan base.

Are they that dumb?

I have a lot of movies from people whose politics I don't agree with. However most of them don't go out of their way to show they're smarter than me and I hope the rest of Hollywood learns that lesson - fast. Being a snob is very unbecoming.

"I want people to get their head up out of their mashed potatoes and learn something about the issues and go and vote"

Pot calling Kettle, come in Kettle, over.

From the physical evidence, it's quite obvious that somebody hasn't lifted her head out of the mashed potatoes in quite some time.

Linda Ronstadt is a bigot.

Yep, yep, yep...and she convicts herself with her own words.

"It’s a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I’d rather not know.”

Guess it jams her frequencies. Tee-hee....

She appears to have had her head in Mashed potatoes, too often.

She didn't learn much, but she did pack on about a hundred issues.

Correctomundo...bashing Christians is not bigotry because they, the Christians, are...well, they're Christians, so it can't be bigotry! Good thing they haven't revived the old throwing-of-the-Christians-to-the-Lions act...at least not literally. IMHO, they try to do so with their words, though.

Maybe I can pitch a song about it to Linda...nah, I don't think she would get it.

Exactly. There is no such thing as bad publicity. Overall, she will benefit greatly from this monetarily. Ronstadt is now a victim and the darling of the Left, including the MSM.

The first thing I noticed was her condescending remarks. She thinks she, a good not great singer, knows things the public does not know. She has the information and we don't know squat, according to her.

She's a typical liberal.

I am pleased the crowd was aware enough to see her for what she is.

Forgotten and has-been former "stars" have found a way to get back into the spotlight. It matters not, if it is in a negative light, in fact , all the better.

They look at it as making a comeback and, as usual, the media will advance their efforts and before you know it, they start appearing on talk shows and various other print media, defending themselves.

Has-been, forgotten "movie stars" are especially good at this, they have found that by making outrageous and personal attacks on the President as especially useful to promote their lagging careers. They found that suddenly the heads of studios take an interest in them again and they receive roles again.

Politicians use this tactic, also,to keep their names in front of the public eye, it doesn't matter how outrageous their comments are, whether they spout out right lies. because they know they can't be sued by the President.

If you frame the 70's around Linda Rondstat, she just happened to fit the profile back then. Chubby, fresh-faced hippie girl. Peasant blouses, hippie bead braids, etc. Joan Baez has a face that could stop a clock, so youth and the cutesy look did wonders for Rondstat. Other than that, it was the same moaning, sobbing, meaningless music.

Linda Ronstadt is getting more press then she has in the last 25 years. Maybe THAT'S at least part of her agenda. Resuscitating her otherwise washed up singing career. These people are under the impression that any publicity is better than none. Wrong!

It will backfire on her, and others of her ilk (Raitt, Jon BonJovi, Johnny (sellout) Couger. They all make me sick. They're too stupid to realize that it's the hard working people of this great country who've lined their pockets and bank accounts for years. No more!

i just happen to go for slightly curvy, approachable, fresh-faced girls who don't wear tons of make-up in a big way.

It kills me that they usually seem to be Democrats, don't get me wrong, but if you were 14 years old in 1976, this more or less set the standard for love at first sight:

I remember seeing an interview with Kenny Rogers where he said he worked hard to give a good performance even at the smallest venues because he knew many people in the audience were spending an entire paycheck to see him, and it would probably be the biggest night out they had all year.

Ronstadt has no class.
