He wouldn't even allow Meryl Streep to get her opinion in edge wise.

Well, thank God! She's twice the blowhard he is.

Uh, Meryl Streep had PLENTY of time to shill her ridiculous viewpoint, and Denzel disagreed...I don't see the problem with that. Her points were stupid and ludicrous..she DESERVED to be condescended to.

One word and one question for Ms. Streep.

The word: ALAR

The question: "How many apple producers did you destroy"?

Uh Uh Uh

NO, Denzel kept talking over Streep and Couric everytime he didn't want to "hear" their words. That's disrepect and worse it's male chauvinistic disrespect TALKING LOUDLY OVER ANOTHERS attempt to respond. It's rude to cut some one off when they've allowed you to have your say in matters.

There's a slave ancestor in everyone's past if you go back far enough, I'm sure.

The first black people on these shores arrived as slaves, in Virginia, within a decade or so of the Jamestown settlement. I haven't heard of any blacks arriving here from Africa as free men, pre-Civil War, so unless his grandparents came through Ellis Island or something, he is the descendant of slaves.

But to what Denzel said--no, HE's not an ex-slave, he's a descendant of slaves. But being a descendant of slaves is absolutely nothing on the "I have suffered" scale compared to an actual slave.

Anyhow, I don't know what he meant or was trying to say, since I didn't see the clip, but I haven't seen him around making an ass out of himself like many other Hollywood types. He's an extremely talented actor, and it may be he wants to keep his true political views to himself--which is fine by me. Would that everybody in Hollywood would do the same.

Nobody here knows what he meant by his "ex-slave" comment.

Our own biases color our perspectives.

Yes, he is being bogus here. BUT, you are also being bogus and insulting with your rant! Think of all the families in the country where the division of labor has one partner doing the cooking. She (or he) is "cooking for the entire household" yet to call that role a slave is ludicrous.

Earning your keep by providing driving service is not slavery. Did you even see "Driving Miss Daisy"? Morgan Freeman wasn't a slave, dude. Daisy was a bitchy old lady in the beginning, but Freeman weren't no slave.

The director (Demme?) got on his rant about cooperate greed and profiting from the war blah blah... hmm...seems to me good ole Michael Moore has made more money than anyone exploiting the war!!! But of course that thought doesn't occur to these nut jobs.

I'll wait to see the whole interview in context before I jump to any conclusions.

So, he lives in America and couldn't see the flim-flam, er, film? Does he live in a hole? I bet Moore will send him a personal copy.

From his biography, he did work hard at a variety of jobs from an early age. He also attended boarding school and graduated from a university. He was considering becoming a doctor. His father was a minister and his mother a beautician. The only ex-anything he is is ex-middle class.

And isn't it funny that it's OKAY for people like Demme to earn mega profits from their creations immitating those alleged greedy corporations. Odd, I could've sworn Hollywood studios were corporations too.

This is Hating Hollywood. Denzel needs to feel extreme guilt while his brothers and sisters are on the street and he is paid absurd money. These folks are sick and we must not fund them by ticket prices and Hollyood needs to be slapped.

Well that "ex-slave" comment when placed in the context of the sentence sounds like a slam at the left. That is the only way the sentence makes any kind of sense.

I'm an ex-slave too. I am certain that if I go back far enough there is some anscestor of mine that was enslaved. You all need to pay me reparations now! You should all feel terrible...yes, I know you didn't do it personally but your anscestors did it...or at least some of the ascestors of some of you did it to me...or to my ascestors...or to at least one of my anscestors. You bastards! Give me money!

Odd, I could've sworn Hollywood studios were corporations too.

Hollywood actors can talk about their "craft" all they want, but they don't call it the film INDUSTRY for nothing. Man, talk about "Big Oil", how about "Big Hollywood"? These actors are cogs in the film INDUSTRY, which is run by Hollywood CORPORATIONS, churning out some good products, but mostly crap, just like Wal-Mart and McDonalds.

In addition to the film INDUSTRY and Hollywood CORPORATIONS, I forgot about the movie BUSINESS. Yes, Mr. Demme, you industrialist, capitalist, corporate big-shot, you!
