Oh, Baby! Kenly Couple Gets Surprise Special Delivery

Most pregnant women have months to prepare for the birth of a baby.

One new mother in Johnston County did not get a chance to shop, decorate a nursery or take Lamaze classes. Instead, Lynn Wilson gave birth one day after finding out she was pregnant.

Three-week-old Brianna is a quiet and peaceful baby -- a little too quiet if you ask her parents.

Lynn Wilson did not even know she was pregnant when she went to Johnston Memorial Hospital feeling sick.

"I didn't have morning sickness. She didn't move all that much. She didn't kick or anything, hardly," Wilson said.

"[Lynn] being pregnant wasn't as surprising as being nine months pregnant," Brian Wilson said. "We needed to call some people [since] they said we might be having the baby tonight. She came the next morning."

But probably true, what woman would neglect prenatal care for her miracle baby?

"I have ovarian cysts and my cervix is tilted. I have irregular periods. They gave me a 10 percent chance of ever having a baby," Lynn Wilson said.

That's a beautiful baby. Her mother isn't too bright though.

What a great story. You hear about these things from time to time...but the fact they really wanted children is terrific! I've never been pregnant, but ladies, wouldn't it have been nice to just wake up and have a baby instead of going through that nine months of people giving you advice!!!!

Everyone who has ever worked in an ER has stories of women showing up complaining of abdominal pain only to be told, to their evident astonishment, that they are in labor. I've seen it more than once myself. Never underestimate the power of stupidity and denial.

I've never known a woman who didn't know she was pregnant, but I've seen one who delivered a baby without even her best friend knowing. She was shaped pretty much like the woman in the photo. Big woman, small baby, loose clothing.

Never underestimate the power of stupidity and denial.

We should have a Federal program to deal with this problem. $20 billion should be a good starter.

I knew a couple it happened to. The wife was 'large' and at the beginnings of menopause, so she never realized.
She went to the gynocologist for cramping and found out she was in labor.

How could she not know? I have been pregnant four times. I can not imagine how anyone could not detect all the physical changes, to say nothing of the baby's movement, Braxton-Hicks contractions, etc.

She may not have actually gained much. My wifew's first pregnancy did not add any weight to her. She got a little thinner in the arms and legs, though. This lady may have been already heavy and the pregnancy caused her to lose a little even as the baby gained. If she is big framed and heavy already she may never have actually "shown."

I have been pregnant, too. You could NEVER not know you were pregnant, in my estimation. There are HUGE physical, emotional, hormonal changes. HUGE....Words escape me.

If you have the fertility problems like she does, you may not know you are pregnant. I had the same problems (but never became pregnant). She probably wasn't able to determine a difference between her other symptoms and having a child in her womb. If you've never had those kinds of problems and don't now what they feel like, I can see why you wouldn't understand.

I was walking through a store and some old lady walked up to me and just decide to rub my tummy. She said "how sweet, when is the baby due". I decided to put an end to it right away when I answered back with "What baby lady? I'm not pregnant, I'm just fat!!" I was actually 8 months along. The look on her was priceless!

Actually, I have had one of her problems. I have a retroverted uterus, with the cervix tilted the wrong way. I was told it would decrease my chances of getting pregnant. Obviously that was not true. I have not had ovarian cysts, but I will bet you that they do not kick at all.

I had two pregancies occur without having a period in between. I am very sensitive to lactation amenorrhea and did not ovulate for more than a year while breastfeeding. Then I conceived the first time I ovulated postpartum, without having a period first. In both cases, I could could tell I was pregnant, even though I had had no period to miss.

There are so many changes with pregnancy. In early pregnancy, the breasts change significantly. The uterus not only gets larger, it feels firm. Even if you are fat, you can still tell the difference between a flabby belly and a growing uterus.

When the baby first begins to kick noticably, it may be easy to confuse it with gas or abdominal functions. But it doesn't take long for those baby movements to be unmistakable. Even if the baby was "quiet", if it was normal and healthy, it would have some movement.

And then during the third trimester, the uterus has Braxton-Hicks contractions, where it gets very hard for a minute or two, getting in shape for labor. I still can not imagine how anyone could not notice all that going on in their own body.

I have never been pregnant so I don't know what it feels like, and you don't know what it's like to have ovarian cysts and endometriosis as well as a tipped uterus. (There were a couple of times when I was married that I thought I was pregnant and we got to be happy for a few days at most.)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if one has fertility problems the symptoms can sometimes mimick pregnancy. You get used to those symptoms and eventually get to a point where you don't want to get your hopes up and just accept them as normal behavior for your body. It seems to me the young woman in this story was on the heavy side to begin with and obviously didn't see the weight gain as indicative of pregnancy, whereas in my case I probably would have because I have a much smaller frame than she.

On top of all that stuff, if her baby was a "quiet" baby and didn't move much, I can understand how she may not have known she was pregnant. This is not the first time I've read about this type of incident. It does happen. We will never really know though because we'd have to BE the person to thoroughly and truly comprehend. :o)
