Conservative "leaders" and the republican establishment have proven themselves unworthy of the American people. This morning George Will readily allowed himself to be used by George Stephanopolous to say that this is not an important election, there is no difference between Bush and Kerry on Iraq, and this is not an election in which any of America's "fundamental freedoms" are at stake.
This followed the entire panel saying that the republicans can't paint Kerry as a liberal because he is campaigning to the middle. Will also bashed Bush for the prescription drug plan, etc.
The whole purpose of the left, which Will gladly pitched in on, is to portray Kerry and Bush as two plain vanilla moderates, so the American people won't be afraid to elect the far more liberal Kerry.
So George Will accepts Kerry's campaign rhetoric, and concludes we will be as safe in the hands of Ted Kennedy, Sandy Berger, and Kerry - as the team of Colin Powell, Rumsfeld, Rice, Wolfowitz, and Bush? I guess little differences like no Iraq invasion, a veto for France and Germany, and total lack of support for the military were overlooked.
I saw in Will the same disgusting arrogance that abandoned George Bush Sr. and ushered in 8 incompetent corrupt years of Clinton, maybe to be followed soon by the worse leftism of the other Clinton.
Did Will notice that we may suffer a devastating terror attack? How's that for a threat to "fundamental freedom?" If George Will or anyone else thinks there will be no difference between Kerry and Bush they are demented. The two disagree on virtually the whole list of issues - America's role in the world, school choice, taxes, abortion, guns, judges - but I am going to be subjected to a left wing presidency because of pointy headed idiots like George Will. Absolutely disgusting.
Oh, and Mr. Will, we are in the middle of a war. Kerry is not even remotely suited to war time decision making.
This country truly disgraced itself when it unelected the first Bush and put in Clinton. Perhaps we are to suffer 8 more years of corruption and decline so that George Will and others can maintain their self satisfied smugness.
As all politics is local, let me throw in that here in New Jersey a continued Republican Justice Department is the only hope we have that a democrat corruption cancer will be addressed. But according to George Will, I can entrust my "fundamental freedoms" just as securely in the hands of Terry MaCauliffe.
As this country sinks, it is as much by the inaction and sheer stupidity of the right, as much as the rabid agenda of the left. George Bush has been a great and decent president, we are in the middle of war and God help us if our next secretary of state is a Madeleine Albright clone.
Sadly, there is now little difference between a dunce like George Will and George Stephanopolous. Maybe there is, Stephanopolous at least still the thought the republicans would paint Kerry as a liberal.
Maybe he's right, but there's no difference between George Will and Al Hunt these days.
Bush will not put people like Sandy Berger in (at least Sandy has disqualified himself now). Or worse, Greg Craig as Secretary of State? That would be an absolute nightmare.
Will should know these things.
I appreciate what he has done in the past, but Will is a dinosaur.
This is why I am very careful who I claim to be a conservative. Will just doesn't get it on a number of issues. I've seen him uncork some pretty God awful comments. While I like what he says sometimes, he's no conservative. People like him, Hatch, Dole, McCain are a dime a dozen. They shift with the wind, and I doubt they could tell you more than one or two things the support of which would make one a conservative.
Who is the author of this story?
Well, all I know is that if conservatives do not find the guts to counter the constant deceptions, lies, and misstatements of the opposition, and the guts to counter this stuff aggressively, we'll just continue to lose ground. And for George Will, a supposed conservative, to be in a discussion with weasels like Stephanopolous, and to not hammer on the Sandy Berger situation, means he is just another part of the problem.
Right on!
George Will has become an uppity elitist who can't see the forrest from the tip of his pointy french looking nose. Damn him and the so-called conservative horse he rode in on.
Isn't this what Carroll Qyuigly (Bubbas mentor at Georgetown) has said. The elites want these two factions to be as close as possible so that there are no upsetting factors from one election to another. (since these two factions now are totally dominated by the elites who have NO desire for thsi country to have a TRUE conservative agenda they have succeeded) And the 2 Hunderd million legitimize this by their wacky votes to continue the charade.
The only reason I'm voting for Bush is that he will be more likely kill fundamentalist ragheads by the boatload and the possibiility of Supreme Court nominations.
Don't get mad, get even!
Here's Will's email address:
georgewill@washpost.com
Let him know how you feel!!!
The two reasons you cite are by themselves enormous.
REAL MAN:
GIRLY MAN:
Thank you. Done. But I'm sure it will be lost in all the liberal love letters he is getting today.
There's not strong difference between their rhetoric on Iraq, but one of them is lying and has to placate the left after the election.
We may be rapping too much on Bush. He can only nominate SC justices. It is the stink'in pubbies that won't back him 100%. The dems will back their party 100%. GW should have gotten tough on his people early on. He didn't. He failed. He more than failed because he let Bubba off, allowed Teddy K to prominence, etc. So what should those Senators on the fence do? They had NADA to fear.
I think George Will is getting very senile.
Three words for George Will: STICK TO BASEBALL !!
There is no doubt that George Will is a conservative - his ideology is probably far more right-wing than that of Bush or many people here. While you clearly disagree with his politics (his attempt at promoting his ideology politically), it is incorrect to label him a RINO or a non-conservative (like Dole or Spectre).
Yes... George Will has become a sudden favorite of a Greenie neighbor of mine.
Hope Will enjoys his new fringie fan base.
We KNOW what President Bush will do, we only KNOW what John Kerry SAYS he will do.........BIG BIG DIFFERENCE considering the lies the left is willing to tell. Considering his advisors are world class liars, clinton, kennedy, wilson, clarke, etc.
Could you provide a link to a transcript or at least some specific quotes (with the context)? I can't make a good judgment based only on your interpretation of Will's comments. And I hope that those on this thread who have been attacking Will actually saw the discussion or read the transcript; if not they are being very intellectually careless by rushing to judgment.
Beat me by *one minute*!!
Here's a nice article by Mark Green...that pretty well hits a homerun, IMO.

FRegards,
Two valuable posts here. Thanks for speaking up. Most likely do not even understand who Quigley is and why what he said is important. Party hasn't to do with anything.
That said, Bush sent a lot down the drain with that prescription boon doggle and the rest of the flagrant spending.
Regards, Ivan
Thanks for the comments. I agree with part of it. ;-)
Guilty as charged!
I'm one of those "demented people" who doesn't think there's a fart's worth of difference between kushberries.
Let's look at the record:
Bush bailed out Brazil with a 30 billion dollar loan...he campaigned against such things.
He supported affirmative action in the Michigan case.
He gave us this gigantic medicare perscription plan, even though medicare will have a tough time dealing with the soon-to-be retired baby boomers.
And let's not forget his amnesty proposal for 12 million illegals....and counting.
He's vetoed no spending bill, shrunk nothing, trashed the dollar, debased the currency, and, with an anti-midas touch, turned surplus into deficit. With both houses of congress, and the presidency, This so called conservative can't even get rid of something as useless as the Dept of education.
> Conservative "leaders" and the republican establishment
> have proven themselves unworthy of the American people.
And of the candidates who are actually electable, which
one needs to win if there's to be any chance of ultimately
solving this problem?
Exactly. Can you believe the stupidity of those pundits? The Bush campaign is going to destroy Kerry on his ultra liberal left wing record.
Before Election Day will come, the majority of voters would have realized that John Kerry is an ultra liberal flip floper from Massachusetts that does not fit to be President in the crucial time of our history and our war on terror.
The majority of voters will re-elect President Bush.
No difference between a self confessed war criminal on the side of North Vietnam and President Bush who has liberated 50 million and is fighting war against terror/the UN and anti-Americans all at the same time?
I don't think so.
I would like to see the transcript to see the context in which Will made his comments.
We got one good year from Bush.
He did what he set off to do.
He was only focused on getting Saddam Hussein and 9-11 enabled him to pounce.
George Will sometimes really puts his foot in it. When Gary Aldrich came out with "Unlimited Access" about the total breakdown of the Clinton White House's security system, Will antagonistically interviewed Aldrich and shilled for the Clintons.
oh, I forgot to mention Bush's insistence that Turkey, 90% of which is in asia, be admitted to the EU. Europeans, having spent a millenium and a half kicking moslems out, should welcome them in! and if they can't get in to Europe, they can come here:
KRASNODAR, Russia, July 24, (IslamOnline.net) - The United States has agreed to grant citizenship to 7,000 Ahiska Muslims who will be settled in Pennsylvania, reported a Russian newspaper on Friday, July 23.
thanks W
See post 28
I was astounded by his comments today. Said you could take a tissue and could not get it between Bush and Kerry on Iraq.
Absolutely no mention of the terrorist threat.
Thanks a lot George Will - how much are you getting for your endorsement of Kerry?
I do not appreciate the supposed conservative elitists that ignore the world situation of terrorism as they espound on the lack of conservatism of George Bush.
He indicated this was not an important election. Really? And just how safe are we going to be with a CIC who was not even fit to lead in Vietnam?
He has to keep his bosses at the washington post happy in order to receive his paycheck.
Yeah, I thought the same thing when I watched him this morning. What's up with him? I must say, though, that I still love George Will. Overall he is a great conservative and an asset to our side. But now and then he is completely off. He can also -- rarely, but still -- be easily misled once in awhile. No one is perfect. Just hope and pray he's back to clear thinking next week.
Will is all we've got in key liberal media outlets. He's a smart guy. We'd better just swallow this one, hope he gets his brain working again, and trust that he is still fundamentally with us. When he is on he is a tiger. Certainly no dinosaur.
What you said.
It has GOT to be difficult to be the only conservative in the group. He messes us from time to time, but he will probably be back on track really soon.
Well if he is as smart as he thinks he is - he should be on message all the time - not just when convenient. Hm....reminds me of a Kerry.
He knows this is an important time in viewers' minds, and he chooses to use his face time to trash President Bush and ignore the true facts of what this election is about - the future of this country and our safety.
George Will is part of the GOP base that Bush lost after the CFR/Prescription Drug/Farm/Education bills were approved.
The ex-base-types that will bash Bush out of principle.
While I respect his principles, I disagree strongly that Bush=Kerry.
Well, I cannot make excuses for him today. My jaw dropped every time he opened his mouth today. I just think we should argue the facts with him and not totally trash him. Clearly he was wrong on the FACTS. Something probably has him disgruntled. He is human. Let's hope this is short lived.
