Just a suggestion or something for open discussion:
Earlier today, there was a thread that had a brief run before being justifiably pulled. The stated subject was "Free Speech". However, the real subject just seemed to be to challenge this forum and how it is operated. Which, it seems to me, is pretty much the way many of these discussion boards are run?
Therefore, I ask the following question:
Could one board be set up in which dissenters could be allowed to post on topics of their choosing?
Of course, the expected rules of decorum would have to be followed, which may be too much work for the moderator's. It could also be set up so that those dissenters would be allowed to post only in that forum and not on the open board.
Free Republic could then be one board that can honestly say we are open minded enough to allow dissenters to post.
I know there are many good reasons to not do this, but I thought I would raise the question.
Good grief. No one is stopping you. Go set up any board you want.
LOL!
I hope it's just a dry sense of humor that you're exhibiting!
Isn't this what the 'Smokey Back Room' is for? Maybe this area of FR should be considered for THIS?
Sounds great. When will you be opening Michael.SF.com ???
Go play with your friends on DU
If it ain't broke don't fix it. Free Republic seems fine to me, so why fix it?
Say anything you want. If it's disgusting enough the post will be removed leaving a gaping hole where archeologists will one day wonder what happened. But, if somebody starts another vanity thread about the same old pig poop they are wasting bandwidth.
I like it the way it is
Frankly, I see enough disagreement and discontent every day without having to deal with it among "friends."
Sometime I come to FR just to be encouraged that many other people think like I do and I don't really want to fight.
I guess we all have our own reasons for coming here, but I really don't care if non Freepers complain that we do not allow dissent.
Of course, reasonable discussion should not be stifled, but...
Some interesting responses to a question, which when posed was done so perhaps more out of my own naiveté rather than some nefarious plot.
I do believe that if the left is confronted in honest, mature debate, their position will be shown for the lack of depth and probability of success that is inherent with a doctrine that seeks to punish success, while simultaneously rewarding failure.
I do believe that we on the right, and trust me on this, I am on the right, should not fear an honest intellectual discussion. However, in the forum of Internet banter, this may not be possible. I do respect Mr. Robinson's goals and his right to his intellectual property. However, I did not realize how the question would be received by some. My bad.
Some comments:
Set up my own board? -- I have neither the computer skills, time, resources or audience to do so, thanks just the same.
To those who choose to insult me through either sarcasm or direct attack. Excuse me for asking a question. I honestly intended nothing more then a discussion. I would also say to those who make false charges:
You might look at a profile or take thirty seconds to check someone out before making insulting allegations.
For those who offered honest and fair criticism, thanks. That's is really all I was looking to evoke.
