Heinz Kerry rebukes journalist [Heinz Kerry tells reporter: 'Shove it']
The Patriot-News ^ | July 26, 2004 | PETER L. DeCOURSEY

Posted on 07/26/2004 5:50:14 AM PDT by johnny7

BOSTON - Teresa Heinz Kerry had just told Pennsylvania Democrats that she was "unscripted" by nature. Then, she proved it. Minutes after the wife of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John F. Kerry commented on campaign ads targeting her husband, Heinz Kerry told a journalist to "Shut up. Shove it." The encounter occurred at a reception yesterday at the Massachusetts State House for the Pennsylvania delegation to the Democratic National Convention. Kerry is to formally accept the party's nomination for president Thursday night.

Heinz Kerry, the Pittsburgh billionaire who controls the Heinz family charities, spoke for about 10 minutes to the Pennsylvania delegates. Citing negative ads President Bush's campaign is airing about her husband, she said, "We need to turn back some of the creeping un-Pennsylvanian and sometimes un-American traits that are coming into some of our politics." When Pittsburgh Tribune-Review editorial page editor Colin McNickle asked which un-American activities she was talking about, Heinz Kerry accurately denied that she used the word "activities." Then, despite taped versions of her remarks, she repeatedly denied she had said the word, "un-American." "I didn't say that, I didn't say that word," she told McNickle. An aide rushed her off down a rope line, but Heinz Kerry shoved back past her aide, and leaning forward, shook a finger at McNickle and said, "Shut up. Shove it."

Heinz Kerry has had a long feud with the Tribune-Review and its publisher, conservative activist Richard Mellon Scaife, despite being friends and partners in philanthropy with Scaife's wife, Ritchie. Heinz Kerry's comments to McNickle were made directly to a bank of tape recorders and reporters.

Gov. Ed Rendell, who has also called for a reduction in negative attack ads, stepped forward to defend the comments while aides moved Heinz Kerry away. "This is the same thing I have been talking about. Making politics so negative and vicious turns off voters, turns off young voters, hurts the whole process. That is all she was saying," Rendell said. Pennsylvania Democrats shrugged off the confrontation as a minor sideshow. "People who meet this woman will love this woman when they see her concern for people," said state Rep. Joe Preston, D-Pittsburgh. "She cares about people and that comes through. And people love that she says what she means and means what she says."

Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato, the Democrats' highest-ranking western party leader, said, "none of this personality stuff is going to matter. She's a great lady and addition to our party, but this election, in the west, is going to come down to the economy, the war and health care. That is what people are going to vote for."

Heh... heh... heh. C'mon Ter-ay za... admit it. You hate us brutish, dirty Americans who don't give a rats ass about the pampered, privelidged elite.

She looked soooo uncomfortable at the Yanks/BoSox game last night...even though my boys lost, it was worth tuning in just to watch her squirm.

They are playing her "Un-american" statement on the radio, followed by her saying that she never said "Un-american".

She is a hoot.

Just to get off of the insane Mrs. Heinz-Kerry for a second: (1) There is nothing more negative than complaining about negative ads. (2) Those who complain loudest about it are the ones who practice it the most.

I don't remember hearing of the French-looking, junior Senator ever attending such a pedestrian event.

You know... the event where they slide in dirt, chew tobacco and give 'high fives'.

Tough to play in in jodhpurs... don't you know!

The tape is excellent, I agree. But I can't decide if Teresa or Ed Rendell is funnier or more pathetic. His "defense" of her really is one for the record books. He must have absolutely zero shame. He should have gotten out of there pronto....

"Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato, the Democrats' highest-ranking western party leader, said, "none of this personality stuff is going to matter..."

Un-hunh. Keep telling yourself that. The totally inexperienced and untested Edwards was picked for his grin and hair.

Personality is a big part of the race. I guess billioinaires like Ter-A-za don't have to keep a civil tongue in their mouths when dealing with the peons.

Her insular elitist attitude is impossible to hide espcially for her because of her huge ego and sense of entitlement.

Deranged philanthropists, marxists, communists, enviro-terrorists, femme-nazi's, lesbians, nihilists, Fabian socialists... and psychotic poets. The backbone of the 'new' Democratic party.

In a story published over the weekend, the writer commented that Kerry spent last week in various sports activities at Tayrazuh's spread on Nantucket and "riding his $8000 bicycle to dinner." Does Tayrayzuh ride too? Or, does he dine without her?

Considering the increased influence of spouses, mainly female, on their husbands' thought processes, the Constitution should be amended to forbid the election of a President married to a foreign born wife.

Her disdain for the American people was on display twice yesterday. Once at the ballgame where she was obviously uncomfortable and bored and then by the way she talked to the reporter. Now the journalists know that unless they fawn over her, she will be nasty and rude.

John Heinz wouldn't recognize what his beloved wife has turned into.
