KERRY MISSES THE SIGN Sen. John Kerry, attempting to burnish his image as an everyman appeared at Fenway Park on Sunday night and threw out the first pitch at the Yankees-Red Sox game. The appearance was supposed to be a surprise, but Kerry couldn't help touting the event to reporters on the plane from Ohio.
"The idea of missing a Yankees-Red Sox series right before a convention week was not acceptable, so we changed the policy," Kerry told reporters.
Kerry, though, is apparently no Red Sox fan. Over the past few weeks, Kerry has claimed that his favorite Red Sox player growing up was Eddie Yost, who never actually played for Boston. Even famously liberal baseball pundit Peter Gammons, a New Englander, no less, was disgusted enough by the pandering to point out that embarrassing error.
According to a campaign staffer, Kerry was prepped on the plane from Ohio on the team's current players and manager, just in case he was interviewed during the game by ESPN, which was covering the game live. "He hasn't been paying attention, though he says he's a fan," says a campaign staffer on the ground in Boston. "But to the best of my knowledge, he's never inquired about the Sox, how they are doing, that kind of thing."

this guy is so absolutely invisible.

GOOD SITE on Hanoi John and Little John.
He'll tell any lie, anytime. Anything for a photo op...and look how lame it turned out to be.
Heh. I betcha W can name more players on the Yankees or Mets than JF'nK can on the Sox.
Now I'm wondering if the President will throw out a first pitch at a Yankees or Mets game just before the RNC...and what kind of reception he'll get. (And I'll bet if he does, he won't shortarm it into the dirt like Kerry did!)

Yeah...i'd vote for a guy that doesnt know his hometown major league baseball team...Unbelievable this guy could be president.
He actually was an Eddie Yost fan before he was against him.
He's as much of a Red Sox fan as Hillary is a Yankees fan.
Besides, he throws like a girl.
My bet is that the Pres won't go near a baseball game. No way he can top the post 9/11 pitch he threw. That said I would love to see an ad contrasting the two pitches and the cheering for the Pres vs. the booing for Kerry.
By the way, when did ESPN become one more media butt-boy for the Dims?
It's also weird why he would single out a journeyman like Eddie Yost (.254 career BA, about 136 HR, and about 680 RBI's), mostly with the Washington Senators (also played for Detroit). I would think a Red Sox fan from that era would mention Ted Williams or maybe Pete Runnels.
Last night at Fenway was brutal -- the cameras panning to John/Teresa every two seconds (and Katie Couric every other inning), Ben Affleck whining in an interview that the Yankees were the beneficiaries of the umps' calls all night (a ridiculous statement), and the LoSox winning the game, of course.
Doh !
I said "His name is John Kerry and he is running for president". I was then told "But W Bush is president! The orange man cannot be president! Someone needs to tell him that! Where did he get that idea?"
Or Carl Yestremski, or Conigliaro.

Or, Lurch thinks Yost played for the Sox before he never played for them.
He probably did not want to give that real war hero, Ted Williams, any positive pub
Surprised he didn't say Larry Bird.
In any real fan's mind of that age Ted Williams or Yaz has to come to mind first. I could see a reference to Jim Rice or Dwight Evans or, maybe since it was so timely, even Dennis Eckersly but Eddie Yost? Not to take anything away from him but a) he didn't play for Boston and b)he's not a stand out really.
Besides, he throws like a girl
I bet Hillary throws like a man...
Baseball is full of lessons we all learn growing up. Lots of cliche's, metaphors for life, experiences playing the game teaching us teamwork, how to win/loose, etc.
Whatching the video of Kerry on the pitchers mound teaches us too... He tossed it like a Wus and landed it short of the plate into the dirt. And that's exactly what he offers as a President...
Can't wait for November for the Bush landslide victory.
"The Walking Man" was no journeyman. He played 18 seasons in the big leagues and was routinely at or near the top of the league in on-base percentage, leading the AL in 1959 and 1960. He also had eight seasons with more than 120 walks. And since the object of baseball is to get on base, that made him very valuable.
All that said, I agree with you. Ted Williams is, in my mind, on a par with Babe Ruth as the greatest hitters who ever lived. One might think he'd be a favorite from someone growing up in that era.
Kerry only went because he misread the schedule:
thought it said "Botox"
not "Bosox"!
LOL!
You don't play baseball growing up in Europe.
he was indeed hitting from the "women's tees".
Maybe it was because Eddie's nickname was the "Walking Man." Since Kerry has trouble making a decision and is reluctant to use force, maybe he identified with Eddie.
Rush Limbaugh and ESPN have a history - remember?

Who knows what Williams might have done if he hadn't missed all those years doing military service - probably would have pushed 700 home runs.
You missed the biggest part of that lesson, though. Kerry wasn't even standing on the pitcher's mound when he tossed that ball . . . he was several feet in front of it. Even then, he couldn't reach the damn plate with his "pitch."
He came out against the DH-- which has allowed the Red Sox to use Manny, Ortiz, and Nomar as bats even when they are ailing or poor fielders. He's an idiot.
Well I heared of a pinko but an orangeo?.... Maybe that what you get when you mix red and yellow

"We're not so worried about the content, as much as we are worried about the length," says a Kerry adviser at the Fleet Center Sunday afternoon. "We were hearing that Hillary's introduction of the president was upwards of 15 minutes long. That's unacceptable. We just want this thing to go smoothly."
I just bet they are not worried about the content of Billary's speeches. By the way, for any of you who believe the Kerry campaign is not worried about the content of Billary's speeches, I have a tropical beach resort in Antartica I want to sale to you. Start bids at $50 million dollars.
The sad thing is almost no one supporting Kerry actually WANTS him as President - they will vote for him in November simply because they HATE BUSH so much.
Terry Kerry stood at the podium (the last time they were here on Mall C) and bragged about being so close to Ohio, as she is from Pittsburgh.......
she was roundly booed, and John had to point out the very large Cleveland Browns stadium behind her, and remind her of the rivalty.
What a bunch of liars they are.
LOL
But ... but ... how can you be so cruel?
You know the Dems let kids vote, and that's what they were prolly after. ;)
Wasn't Eddie Yost their manager back in the day?
"The orange man cannot be president! "
LOL! Out of the mouths of babes....
Really, to claim to be a Red Sox fan and not mention Yaz or Williams! What a maroon!
Ever seen the M*A*S*H episode where Frank burns throws a baseball?
Kerry throws like Frank Burns.
All that said, I agree with you. Ted Williams is, in my mind, on a par with Babe Ruth as the greatest hitters who ever lived. One might think he'd be a favorite from someone growing up in that era.
I am the same age as Kerry. There were plenty of other more colorful, exceptional atheletes than Eddie Yost. Kerry is and never was a baseball fan. His comments reveal his ignorance about the game.
Ah, Yazstremski. The sweetest swing ever.
