The last few months I've seen an increasing trend for FReepers to start going for each others jugular. Sometimes we forget (I've certainly done it myself) that in the grand scheme of things, we are on the same team. We may disagree on priorities or how far we are willing to go, but we have enough enemy in the left without creating more amongst ourselves. We can disagree but be civil to each other. We can debate nuance, but not believe that our personal positions are more important than the health of the whole. Let's argue vigorously but remind ourselves the guy whose trachia we are ripping out today may be sitting next to us in a foxhole tommorrow.
I'm going to propose that we all make a new start. Let's put all past differences behind us and resolve to band together and fight the good fight, the elimination of liberalism as a significant culturual influence in America...and see that to its end in our lifetimes.
If you agree, please post your thoughts and ping your lists and your friends to this thread.
Too many of the jugular goers are "highly respected" freepers who run threads. Anyone who dares to disagree is attacked en masse. I don't attend the ongoing threads for that reason.
Not to mention the "ZOT Monkeys".

Unfortunately true...I realize tensions are running high due to the election and all, but there is a bit too much paranoia out there regarding new posters and varying opinions. We can't change folks' minds if we ZOT them at the first sign of non-conformity, imho.

How so, Dane?! I don't know if yer familiar with the incident I was referencing, but it was altogether the other poster's doing. Have you EVER seen me call another long-time poster a "Troll" or a "Moby"? No you haven't becuz it hasn't occurred...fact is, I believe a little diversity in the thought processes of the posters is a Good Thing and only serves to strengthen our positions on issues when we're forced to defend our opinions against those who believe differently.

God forbid someone supports one of the candidates that can actually win. We all know that Bush isn't perfect, and the world isn't perfect, either, but Bush is 1000 times better than Kerry, that is a given. And just because someone supports a candidate doesn't mean they see that person as a a "god".
IMO, some just get tired, of what I would call whining on FR, by some that the political landscape isn't perfect.
IMO, the political landscape will never be perfect and I deal with that reality.

Actually, that is more esoteric squabbling. I'm referring to calling people "Democrats" and "liberals" if they aren't Bush uber alles.
CFR was a classic example. Everyone said that Bush should sign it because the Supreme Court will throw it out. The rest is history.
