I love your tagline.
I understand the desire to eliminate "duplicate" threads. The problem is, because we are so vigilant about it, it diminishes this sites utility as a source of breaking news.
Many people don't want to wade through thousands of comments to find the two or three posts with an update on a breaking issue. It would be different if the original poster had the ability to ammend (or append to) the lead article with new details.
But since we do not have that capability, it really makes it harder to use FR as a good source for breaking news.
Anyway, that's my two cents worth. Flame away...
Yep .. twice :0)
BUMP TO THE TOP
Did you know there's an election in 2008?
Maybe add a graphic as the header on the Latest Posts page - a still from the 'Jib-Jab' video with a red circle and X superimposed on it, and a note beneath it saying 'This was posted 723 times this month - please DO NOT POST IT AGAIN!!!'
I love those. I think most people's idea of searching is scrolling down the main forum page. There was a time when FReepers were some of the best keyword searchers in the world (masters of the Google plain and all that we survey), we must return to those times.
You had it right earlier.
thank you! I was beginning to wonder if we'd become the black hole of the blogosphere.
When I was a boy, we didn't have these automatic-shmiggledeeschmatic html tag closers. If you wrote in double-sized red italics, everybody wrote in double-sized red italics, and they'd yell at you and push you in the snow and steal your shoes.
And we *liked* it.
Don't forget, us old people are stupid too
I was too darn nasty, tho'. Shouldn'ta been.
Moved to 'chat' in 5... 4... 3... 2...
Thanks, I needed that!
Stats like number of posts and number of newbies (or trolls trying again) are here:
A moose just ate Terayyyysa Kerry.
For infinite justice!
Make your time!
Double edged sword.
There wouldn't be "thousands of comments" to wade through that are needless if people cut down vanities and duplicate posts.
If you subscribe to "Breaking News" and it is listed on the right sidebar, you can click the words "Breaking News" at the header of that topic and it will take you to that forum. They will all be listed there.
In some cases, the search might not find a previously posted article or vanity, but in most cases it would if JoeLazyButt would use it.
It clutters up the forum to make duplicates and vanities, and it shoves down the list the articles when they are originally posted.
No you weren't.
