BOSTON, July 27 -- The tabloids are painting John F. Kerry as an out-of-this-world figure.
The New York Post's front page Tuesday featured a huge picture of the Democratic presidential nominee-to-be in a blue spacesuit, crawling out of the shuttle Discovery at Cape Canaveral, Fla. Next to the headline ("BOSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM") and a description of Kerry's "ridiculous outfit," Rupert Murdoch's paper ran a smaller shot of Woody Allen dressed as a human sperm from the movie "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex but Were Afraid to Ask."
The same Kerry photo ran in the Boston Herald, whose front page this week has been devoted to Kerry-bashing, with the story comparing his donning of the "clean suit" to 1988 nominee Michael S. Dukakis's infamous flub of riding around in a tank. (The Herald's banner headline, "TERESA'S TED K TIRADE," spotlighted some remarks that Kerry's wife made in a 1975 book.) The in-your-face pictures landed like a meteor, with cable networks showing them throughout the day.
Kerry spokesman Phil Singer said the candidate was required to wear the suit. "Given the challenges facing our nation today, you'd think these papers could find something better to write about," he said. Campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill, asked by Fox News whether NASA's release of the picture was a dirty trick, said: "Well, what do you think?" No photos were supposed to be taken, she said.
But Kennedy Space Center spokesman Mike Rein said a video was routinely made of Kerry "as we have done for the last 40 years." He said NASA takes such footage because Kerry was in "a very confined and hazardous area" and that the pictures are always made public.
New York Post Editor in Chief Col Allan said he was just having "a bit of fun" before Al Gore, Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton addressed the convention Monday night. "The candidate as a sperm lasted exactly one edition" on the front page, he said. Asked if he was trying to make Kerry look silly, Allan said: "He needs no help from us."

no kidding, the town's full of beebers stuned!
push the picture.... get it out there, it really doesn't matter what the Dems say. It is a very damaging picture and Kerry didn't have to pose for it.
They got that one right!
I'm sure this photo would strike fear into the heart of Osama bin Laden and his Merry Madmen.
I think a good caption for this pic would be
"New Internet worm discovered"
I say it is his Hallmark moment, and this puppy has legs like a centipede.
Every speaker at the Girly-man National Convention says John Kerry-Heinz served bravely in Vietnam but didn't he bug out after 4 months?
God Kerry's having a bad week, first the Shove-it gate, then the bunny suit. He may get a convention fall.
Meanwhile Iraq is off the the front pages while the economy continues to grow.
I'm betting on Bush.
The Rats dug this hole. One of the reasons this photo is still being discussed is due to their whining about it. The other reason is this convention has been so stage managed, there is absolutely no suspense. This photo is the most interesting thing to have come out of the convention build-up thus far.
I think John "Send Me Home" Kerry is smiling because he also has a warm feeling. But that's because he just wee'd in his jammies.
W-P is pissed not all papers are lined up for the royal Kerry ass kissing expect of the elite media this week....
If the tabs actually do put this pic on their covers, it will hurt Kerry a lot. I would be willing to bet that LOTS of "undecided" voters along with many lukewarm Rats read the tabs.
So -- did he appear at the Convention in this?? At Cape Canaveral? I couldn't figure out, from the article. And I have NOT been watching... thanks.
Stupid journalist. It's not a SPACESUIT!
...But Kennedy Space Center spokesman Mike Rein said a video was routinely made of Kerry "as we have done for the last 40 years." ...
NASA's been taking video of Kerry for 40 YEARS??
...He said NASA takes such footage because Kerry was in "a very confined and hazardous area" and that the pictures are always made public....
Horse manure! There's no requirement for them to shoot video when someones in a "confined and hazardous area".
They took the photos because he's a VIP and it's good PR for NASA. (I oughta know, I was a photographer there many moons ago.)
Now, considering that the "journalist" goofed about the "spacesuit", I wonder if he got the NASA guy's quote right. NASA's spokespeople are usually smoother than that.
This is the man in whom "Strength and Wisdom are not opposing values".
Right.
He was being wounded at the rate of once every 27 days. They had to get him out to save his life (smirk).
There are an awful lot of riff-raff out there in the audience.
Just imagine that that flex hose coming out of the hatch is a GOP elephant trunk and that goofy smile on Sen. Kerry's face is because of where the GOP elephant's tusk is being rammed. :)
It's an attempt to win sympathy with women. He's having a rectal abortion performed. Hence the vacant stare.
Touché.
I don't think "shove it gate" was bad for Kerry. They used publicity over it to cover up the "girlie throw" at the Bosox game. That to me was far more damaging.
You can be rude, or mean, or lots of things as president, and people will accept it. But you can't be a dork.
At the time the British might have.
This is hillarious, yeah Kerry why don't you bitch and moan about it and keep it the central topic for the rest of the week. I'm sure it will do wonders for your post-convention bounce.
Drudge has an interesting storyThat Dan Rather wrote for the See BS website that said unflattering things about this incident.
Even with the convention, I am shocked Iraq hasn't been getting more coverage.
Finally some breathing room.
In Danny Rather's column at the CBS website, he is almost hoping Nader shows up to shake things up tomorrow just to shake the boredom.
If there are lots of bored reporters around, they don't care if it hurts Dems or Repubs...they want something..anything...to get away from the scripted convention. If Nader shows up tomorrow to get booed by Dems....oh happy days. It will get tons of coverage.
Come and sing --- 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY
The thing is there hasn't been any real news from Iraq for some time now, I mean poor Reuters was reduced to reporting a garbage man was killed by mortars.
That is exactly right. The Com-Post is all snippy about some newspaper being "unfair" to Dork-Boy. Actually does my heart good.

read it....interesting stuff.
His spokesman said he was "required" to wear the suit.
Huh?
Who "required" him to put on the stupid looking suit and grin like a possum eating sh__?
I didn't know TerAYsa was even there.
| No photos were supposed to be taken, she said.

"Given the challenges facing our nation today, you'd think these papers could find something better to write about,"
Uhh....I seem to recall Kerry saying "We have better hair" when talking about picking the VP slot. What "challenges" was he addressing then?
LOL, Kerry's "moment" is 100 fold WORSE than Dukakis!
ROFLMHO!
ROFLMHO! you, too!
Really? His wife showed us what outerspace is like tonight.
