The demonrats seem to not trust free speech,eh!
I wonder why no freepers? Is it because Kerry was seen flipping a finger by our freepers and he had them banded?
Freepers largely AWOL, except for a few posters, like me. The anti-Dem speakers and protesters are mostly anti-abortion groups (big around Boston for obvious reasons) and those resisting the speech camp (the anti-socialist/anti-communist wing, like fans of David Horowitz, M. Savage, and the new entrants at New Republican Archive). What has been more BIZARRE is that the GOP has next to ZERO presence. Not even local YAFers recruited to hold signs. There must be some kind of stand-off agreement in secret. During prior presidential election cycles, you could always find local GOP supporters rallying to hold signs and the like at big Dem events. NOT HERE> Strange...
CLintonistas no. Gore rises to defense, sort of. Kerry is AWOL on the issue. The difficulty here is that the pen was the creation not of the Dems, but of the Justice Department (run locally by a former crony of Weld and still staffed with leading cadres of Reno). The dirty secret of the Bush Administration is that in the Justice Department it is still the Reno-Ashcroft agency (more Reno cadres than Ashcroft hires). When Clinton came to power in 1993 he fired nearly every single staffer in the DAs offices, and put in his own people. Bush came to town with a "bipartisan" government, kow-towing initially to Daschle (remember that?) and NOT purging Justice, Education, Agriculture, and so on of the cadres installed over 8 years of Clintonista rule. It was also Ashcroft that went after a protester in South Carolina in 2003 for holding a sign outside a designated protest zone. This Communist/socialist concept, which started on the campuses, and skipped over into the Reno-led Justice Department in the mid-1990s (in time to be tried for the 1996 conventions), is becoming institutionalized simply because there is not enough outcry against the law enforcement version of it. The campus version of speech codes and zones is already ON THE RUN, courtesy of folks like Horowitz and www.thefire.org. Check it out.
I would have expected a little more "street theater". Is Faneuil Hall off-limits? If I were in Boston, that's where I'd be headed. Not "The Pen".
John Kerry is staying in the hotel next to where I work in Philly. Maybe I should call room service and send up a platter of waffles.
Come to think of it the economic impact is close to what a terror attack might have cost the city.
"Come to think of it the economic impact is close to what a terror attack might have cost the city."
Did you see the photo yesterday with only one customer eating lobsters and a very large outdoor restaurant area?
MR. KERRY TEAR DOWN THIS WALL
the extent of the pen really bothers me. Concertina wire? Yest the socialists and communists are free to roam? I understand wanting to keep the groups seperate, but yikes. I mean, c'mon. Barbed wire and guard dogs?
I'm sure that my ancestors who were alive before, during and after the Revolutionary War are spinning in their graves. Of course, the Kennedy Klan of Thugs probably started them spinning.
"MR. KERRY TEAR DOWN THIS WALL!"
That is great!
Remember Seattle? Same caliber of people.
Why go if you can't be seen or heard?
but aren't those the ones roaming the streets? Whose penned up? The anti-homosexual anti-abortion protestors, right? The conservative ones.
I know they can be just as radical, (Robert Rudolph Randy whathisname, among others), but I bet fewer of them thean the others.
Besides, where's it stop? Who decides? Then don't let anyone protest, or let 'em all out!
I do understand after what happened in Seattle, but...
I wouldn't spend any time in the "Pen." But I keep thinking Fanueil Hall must be an open area?
Check out the Army MP looking over her shoulder at others in the pen...
That "caliber" of people have the Streets of Boston -- freely, courtesy of a Federal judge. The liberty-minded, conservative, Bible thumping, and anti-abortion protesters got the pen.
Downtown Boston is an open area, but it, too, looks like an armed camp. There are Mass. Nat. Guard MPs all over the place, along with the usual police.
Damn. No place for a self-respecting Freeper to flash a sign?
It's actually more bizarre than that. While the conservative press nation-wide reported, in re: that FBI warning, about how some Marxist anarchist groups OPENLY talked about waging "war" on the convention -- IN FACT, THEY GOT THE STREETS!!!! The left-wing control of the local law enforcement community led to an ABCnews.com story on July 23, 2004 story that they really didn't care about anarchists ("have little, if any concern about such an attack"), but were more concerned with isolating "neo-Nazis" (the same people that Lefties talking about the "right-wing" portray as ranging from Ronald Reagan to skinheads). Check it out. There are certifiable Left-wing "loons" (as they say in Europe) peppered throughout the bureaucracies in Boston. This is a town where more people read and listen to, on the local TV, Noam Chomsky than know who James Otis (famous South Shore patriot), or even George Orwell was.
Boston/MA is officially a police state, we found it impossible to hang bridge signs last night. Will enter the city today but have to be home to see O'reilly interview the Mooreon.
Man. What a world. I mean we're stuck if we can only talk among ourselves on the internet.
The hard core loonies are gearing up for the GOP convention.
It will be a good thing if they are penned up.
Remember what they tried to pull in L.A. in 2000.
I suspect that they have learned their lesson and will be difficult contain this time.
Gee, I don't know. Maybe it's because of the communist socialists in the pen??? You want me to stand by some woman holding an "Ashcroft-Kerry" banner???
Good heavens are you clueless. The hammer and sickle is to show that Ashcroft is behaving like Beria and Kerry is a Com-Symp. It is a nationalist republican behind that poster. Buchanan's people, Libertarians, Birchers (most influential in New England), American Free Press, and a host of liberty-minded folks on the "right" are resisting SOCIALISM. Bush is the most socialist president since FDR. Fact. Only FDR didn't promote destroying the border with Mexico.
The way you write you sound like one of them. The LA rioters got the STREETS in Boston! It is the anti-abortionists, nationalists, conservatives, Bible thumpers, and generally the "right-wing" that has been active in the pen, because all of their permits to protest in the streets or post up posters were pulled. WAKE UP. This is Boston we're talking about -- the land of the Left and the ADL. They have their eyes on suppressing only one side of the political spectrum -- the "right-wing."
Some vulgar nitwits on this thread don't seem to realize that this particular sign is ANTI-COMMUNIST, ANTI-ORWELLIAN, ANTI-SOCIALIST. "Iron Curtain," a stylized hammer and sickle reflecting a Communized America, and an American flag behind bars/cage can only mean one thing. Just for the record.
Interesting sarcasm. Every word you type or post on this site is recorded, logged, and indexed. That's the point -- they can't stand political speech that is unregulated and not under surveillance. For the cynic this may seem trite, but the essence of a police state was once described by Solzhenitsyn, as well as former DIA head General Williams (head of an anti-communist group working with defectors), and understood well by all who lived in Eastern Europe -- as the accumulation of power and pretext. It is the gathering of lists, as Lenin once infamously had a long discourse about, so that when the time comes (the next war, or whatever)...
Oh give me a break. That's a speech killer rationale if I ever heard it. If your uberlords want me they can come on down. I'm sure as hell not hiding.
My apologies. I have been hit and miss on that particular arena and my ignorance showed. Thanks for setting me straight on just who was in the pen. grrrrrrrrr
We shouldn't wait for RNC authorization. They're not cutting-edge thinkers. WE are. WE are the campaign. What prevents Boston-area and New Hampshire patriots from coming down tomorrow night for a big FReep? Nothing but laziness or lack of imagination.
I'll be there -- again. Rallying to the cause of liberty. It can get isolating in that pen and even at other places in Boston, surrounded by DNC scum, and media whores for the Dems (and not a single Bush sign or supporter around)! My rare company on one day, for this former "vet" of supporting dissidents in Latvia and Armenia [that is, putting my neck on the line during a trip to the USSR during the mid-1980s], was, at times, a woman (behind the anti-Communist poster posted on this list) who built ballistic missile defense systems targeting the Chinese [the real purpose behind Safeguard] while her husband was in the Navy off Cuba, and a vet from Korea who relished real battle against Asian Communists. The fact is we have too many careerist suburbanites dominating "the cause," and utter degenerates controlling the "rags," who fail to grasp, or don't want America to grasp, that the Rubicon is being crossed by the enemies of the republic and forces of tyranny as we sit and type.
Capt Contradictory... #34 Bush is the most socialist president since FDR
#41 surrounded by DNC scum, and media whores for the Dems (and not a single Bush sign or supporter around)! Intimating that you are the only Bush supporter...
Thanks for the laugh...
Time to break out the riot helmets and the night sticks.
"Put your clubs on WHOMP, boys and girls!"
Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage have made similar comparisons as made in #34. Drug plan, education bill, farm bill, steel subsidies, NSA Adviser, Rice, who as Provost of Stanford supported the marginalization of Western Civ texts and railed against Sam Huntintgon, kow-towing to the Red Chinese...time to start paying attention to the details...
Must have gone to public school with the #41. Read it again closely...who said I was a supporter of Bush?
Boston's other Green Monster!
Outside the Fleet Center in Boston site of the current Democrat National Convention is the"free speech zone."
Cognitive dissonance...The classic symptom is to not have to make a reasoned or factual argument and instead hurl invectives. My sympathies...
DAILY UPDATE, THURSDAY, JULY 29, 2004 (4:00 PM EST)
Riot at the DNC Center
BOSTON-July 29, 2004 (4:00pm EST)
An Anarchist mob, organized by a group calling itself the Black Tea Society, descended upon the Fleet Center this afternoon determined to incite police into a confrontation. While conservative protesters, few and far between today, gathered inside "The Pen," the mob marched from the Commons towards the DNC Center and along Causeway St. north of the Center. They seemed determined to test the official policy of forcing protests only inside the pen. In fact, Boston police had already largely abandoned the disgusting "zone" policy, and had been letting small groups march along Causeway and throughout the city at will. About a hundred protesters, who were mixed in with several hundred spectators and media, ended up confronting a solid line of riot police just outside the "zone" entrance. After protesters lit a fire and threw an American flag on it, things got rough when the police pushed the small mob back away from Causeway Street. A melee ensued, which looked more like a press riot due to the overwhelming number of media people there eager to get a photo so they could exaggerate the actions of a few agitators. Three people wearing gear indicating they were Anarchists were soon arrested. After that, a small mob of media kept the police at bay. That was it. Police NEVER actively enforced the "speech zone" policy -- a victory of sorts.
Site refuses to post photos glorifying the Marxist Anarchists...go to CBS and ABC affiliate sites in Boston for TV coverage.
what freeper would waste thier time with this?? i am in boston but i wouldnt go protest (i have a life).
right or left wing, i really dislike protestors.
When outsiders get involved the rules change. If they get some hurt directed in their direction, they brought it on themselves.
