Polls show youth leaning to Bush
Jacksonville Times-Union ^ | 7-28-04 | Matt Towery

As the Democrats bask in the media limelight this week at the party's national convention, it's probably a good time to revisit a topic I recently took a light jab at in this column space. Polls in a number of states and in the nation as a whole show that a surprisingly disproportionate amount of President Bush's support for re-election is coming from younger voters -- an often fickle voting bloc.

The "9/11 Generation." I suspect 9/11 was a much more definitive moment for a lot of young people than most realize.

Good news, but young voters are less likely to go to the polls.

Maybe we could put out a trail of pizzaz?

Understandable.

As a younger person I'd be annoyed, too, at the Boomers inability to get over themselves. Its annoyed me my entire life, and I'm one of 'em.

Kerry is the quintessential Boomer.

Not the ones I know. They are itching to go and vote for Bush. Many of the first time voters in our area voted in the primaries and now want their say in state and national elections.

I have to say this surprises me quite a bit. There is no denying that the younger generation has been very brainwashed into the "entitlement" way of thinking and a republican is not an "entitlement" thinker. 9/11 may have had a big impact, but in what way that would make them go to the right? The Whitehouse has a lot of that generation going to war (I believe for good reason), but facing the draft can't be winning a lot of votes with the youth. So, what exactly would make the younger vote go right? If its morals and ethics, then I'll eat my hat, because the youth "majority" certainly doesn't appear to embrace that concept on a whole. Got me stumped...

Wow, a whole new set of campaign slogans come to mind:

Kerry - the choice of the Peptic Generation!

Kerry me back to old Virginians...

Kerry DEPENDS on the senior vote!

Medi-KERRY

If Dean supporters are "Deaniacs" - aren't Kerry supporters "Kerry-atric"? Kerry-atric? Geri-atric? GET IT??

Muahahahahahahaaaaaa!!!

We all know that the Left are essentially defined these days by their overt reliance on the Baby Boomer hippie freaks. In 10 years, they will be THE political faction of the well aged!.....

Don't be fooled by physical appearances. Just because the youth these days are tatooed and pierced with butt hanging jeans, does not mean they are politically to the Left. Similarly, just because some 50 something drives a big old SUV , lives in a nice house, wears preppy clothes and act respectable does not mean that they are not still deep down inside, the same old hippie freak they used to be 30 years ago....

A disproportionate number of kids who would have been young Democrats ended their short lives as medical waste in abortuary dumpsters.

My comment wasn't so much directed to you as it was generic. Just thinking out loud.
