He's just a fast talker telling everyone something that they want to hear. I'm certain that if you go back and study the transcript, you'll see where his soundbites flip-flopped meaning, he would time what he said with his frequent pauses. If it was likely to be controvesial, he'd quickly follow up with something that would smooth it over and then pause to allow people to reflect on what his smoothing statements rather than what he said two sentences ago. He is a skilled orator, not a great one but skilled never-the-less.

This one is a pick up for the Dems. It's a foregone conclusion at this point.
