BERGER PAPERS BARED TRANSLATION DISASTER

July 29, 2004 -- WASHINGTON — Urgent complaints that the FBI could not decipher bugged conversations between members of a Brooklyn mosque and Afghan terrorists because it lacked translators were included in the documents former National Security Adviser Sandy Berger removed from the National Archives,

The Post has learned. In the latest twist to the document scandal, investigators said the revelation about translators was among several criticisms of America’s ability to deal with the looming al Qaeda threat contained in the “after action” memo on the millennium terror plot that is at the center of the Berger probe.

Officials said an appeal to hire more translators familiar with Arabic, Pashto and other key “counter-terrorism” languages at the FBI, CIA and National Security Agency was among 29 proposals to tighten security contained in the report.

The report written by former White House counter-terrorism chief Richard Clarke also warned of the presence of al Qaeda cells inside the United States.

Davis to Investigate Berger Allegations

Washington, Jul 21 -

House Government Reform Committee Chairman Tom Davis (R-VA) announced today that the Committee intends to investigate allegations that former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger, in preparation for 9-11 Commission hearings, took highly sensitive terrorism documents from a secure reading room at the National Archives.

The Government Reform Committee, which has jurisdiction over the National Archives, is the primary investigative committee in the House of Representatives.

“These allegations are deeply troubling, and it’s our constitutional responsibility to find out what happened and why,” Davis said. “It boggles the mind to imagine how a former national security advisor walked off with this kind of material in his pants, or wherever on his body he carried it. At best, we’re looking at tremendously irresponsible handling of highly classified information – some of which, I understand, has not yet been located.

“At worst, his actions suggest an intentional effort to keep critical information away from the Commission and the American public. We are now left wondering whether the Commission, set to release its report tomorrow, had access to all of the information it needed to fully do its job. The American people’s faith in our review of 9-11, in our war on terror, in our transparency, is literally at stake in this investigation. It is my hope that Mr. Berger cooperates fully with the Justice Department as its investigation proceeds. Meanwhile, as we continue to afford him the presumption of innocence he deserves, we will fulfill our duty to the American people to get to the bottom of this disturbing breach of trust and protocol.”

Berger Returns U.S. Constitution to Archives

(2004-07-24) -- Former Clinton national security advisor Samuel R. "Sandy"Berger today returned the orginal of the U.S. Constitution to the National Archives.

"It was an honest mistake," said Mr. Berger, who until this morning was an advisor to Democrat presidential hopeful John Forbes Kerry.

"I accidentally wrapped the Constitution around my left leg and mistakenly secured it with rubber bands."

A spokesman for the National Archives said he was pleased to have the Constitution back.

"Until Mr. Berger returned it," said the source, "our prime suspects were all in the federal judiciary."

Good find. Now, someone should check Lexis Nexis and find out if the Kerry campaign -ever- tried to blame Bush for a lack of translators.

The Berger affair aside, there is still a critical shortage of translators of the languages needed to do the work that needs to be done.

The 'Rats were brilliant in leaking the Bergler story just in advance of their convention, as it has entirely pushed Bergler out of the headlines.

Let's see, American Jews who can read Arabic were NOT welcome to serve America at the FBI.
so Berger took all the documents involving complaints. Hmmmmmm. Hillary again?

Un f'believable.

There is, and from the little I know of it, it sounds as though they have no idea of how to get them - that is, get people who know Arabic languages but are not working for the other side. We should, of course, be hiring Israelis; they'd certainly be a lot more on our side than most of the native Middle Eastern Arabic translators I've seen.

So they'd rather have Arab jihadi sympathizers & spies in the FBI than possible Israeli spies?

"The 'Rats were brilliant in leaking the Bergler story just in advance of their convention, as it has entirely pushed Bergler out of the headlines."

The leak was also a method to alert any and all who were involved in "KNOWING" about what Sandy the Burglar did, that a criminal investigation was underway, take COVER!

There were many reasons why Sandy the Burglar leaked his crime to the WORLD, we have one example of the effect and that was JFKerry sanitizing his web site and the appearance of removing Sandy the Burglar from his campaign.

Well that is unless these lying crooked liberals win the next election. This may well be cause for Hillry to put off her election bid until 2012, as bjclinton has said.

There may be the need to get rid of Ashcroft sooner than later.
