John Edwards Would Partner With John Kerry to Advocate Abortion
LifeNews ^ | July 28, 2004 | Steven Ertelt

Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Though he is seeking to project a moderate image to voters through his Democratic convention speech, John Edwards has compiled a record in favor of abortion that pro-life groups call extreme. During his tenure in the U.S. Senate, Edwards voted against pro-life legislation at every turn -- even opposing a ban on partial-birth abortions.

While the other Democratic presidential candidates boasted of their pro-abortion views on their campaign web sites, LifeNews.com reported in September 2003 that Edwards had yet to make his pro-abortion views public through his Internet page.

That may have been because Edwards compiled a 0% pro-life record while in the Senate, according to the National Right to Life Committee.

Edwards' record belies his moderate image and likely wouldn't play well in battleground southern and Midwestern states where a majority of voters are pro-life.

But that doesn't mean Edwards didn't work to curry favor with groups that back abortion as a presidential candidate.

"The right to choose is an essential ingredient to realize the full equality of America,'' Edwards said during a speech at a NARAL dinner on January 21, 2003.

In May 2003, Edwards addressed EMILY’s List donors, attempting to strengthen their resolve to put a pro-abortion candidate in the White House in 2004.

"These judges, some of these judges, that come out of the White House, they will take your rights away. It is no more complicated than that," Edwards told the pro-abortion group.

Pro-life groups view Edwards as a concern and say he will be someone who will partner with Senator Kerry to advocate abortion, human cloning and embryonic stem cell research.

"With John Edwards, Kerry has selected a running mate whose position is as extreme as his own, even opposing the ban on partial-birth abortions," Carol Tobias, political director for National Right to Life said in reaction.

"Both John Kerry and John Edwards have a zero percent rating from FRC, and a 100 percent rating from NARAL," Family Research Council President Tony Perkins added.

Like Kerry, Edwards favors appointing only abortion advocates to key federal court positions, including the Supreme Court.

As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Edwards routinely voted against pro-life judicial nominees put forward by President Bush.

Edwards has also voted for taxpayer funding of abortions and, in March 2003, voted for an amendment that expressed the Senate's support for the Roe v. Wade decision that allowed unlimited abortions and said the landmark ruling should not be overturned.

Edwards also backed the pro-abortion judicial decision in a similar 1999 vote.

"During his nearly six years in the U.S. Senate, John Edwards -- like John Kerry -- has consistently voted according to the dictates of hard-line pro-abortion advocacy groups, and contrary to the policies favored by most Americans," said Douglas Johnson, NRLC legislative director.

Edwards wants PBAs--and is a Senator from NC...? That alone would be a bumper sticker.

What this race all comes down to is this: If Kerry/Edwards win, they will pack the Supreme Court with liberal nutcase judges who will keep undermining what little there is left of the Constitution for the next 50 years.

odd. when he was a carnivorous trial lawyer, he abandoned the cause of dead babies altogether for the sake of babies with severe birth defect. dead babies weren't worth as much, you see, since you couldn't drag them into court to display to a jury.

It would be a disaster for Kerry and Edwards to be elected.

You beat me to that post.

I, too, would like Mr. Edwards famous 'channelling' ability (displayed so well in court, against OB/GYNs who didn't pull a C-Section), to be once again used.

Let's say, for a partial birth abortion...

Not catchy enough.

How 'bout: "I don't break for unborn children?"

In one of Edwards' silver-tongued arguments to the jury on behalf of a girl born with cerebral palsy, he claimed he was channeling the unborn baby girl, Jennifer Campbell, who was speaking to the jurors through him:

"She said at 3, 'I'm fine.' She said at 4, 'I'm having a little trouble, but I'm doing OK.' Five, she said, 'I'm having problems.' At 5:30, she said, 'I need out.'"

She's saying, "My lawyer needs a new Jaguar ... "

"She speaks to you through me and I have to tell you right now – I didn't plan to talk about this – right now I feel her. I feel her presence. She's inside me, and she's talking to you."

The Millworker's Son

Wow! And this guy is a vice-presidential nominee. Unbelievable.

ahhh...

You found it.

Amazing, isn't it? Apparently that 'fetus' was greatly disturbed by the lack of a C-Section. Pity he can't (or won't) make the obvious connection to abortion.

But then, no one's found a way to make money suing on behalf of aborted children.

~ PRAYER ~

St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we  humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
 by the power of God,
Thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits
who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
 Amen
