The NY Slimes' admission is in the first paragraph of the lead editorial entitled "John Kerry Speaks." I can't provide a direct link because I refuse to register for the on-line version of that rag.

To: ElkGroveDan
I don't get it. The first paragraph is:
Speakers at the Democratic convention were told to stay positive, but when John Kerry delivered his acceptance speech last night, his best moments came on the attack. His depiction of a Bush administration that misled the public into war did a fine job of rousing the faithful.
Am I missing something? I must say however that they effectively say he's lying about a positive campaign.

I don't see the word "demolished" anywhere in that piece.
To: Labyrinthos
Of course the funny thing is that all of the "Instapolls" the media did after the debates said that Gore demolished Bush.
To: You Dirty Rats
Gore demolished himself.Gore showed obvious signs during the debates of his well-polished, often hidden, flaming psychosis.

Were those the debates where Bush promised to not be a nation-builder, to decrease the size of gov't, and to reform Socialist Security?
Still waiting for any of these three platforms to be acted upon...

The media have been saying for weeks what an excellent debater Kerry was in college. I remember them saying that about Gore. The problem is that debaters usually look like robots. Whether the paper said it or not, Gore demolished himself in those debates and looked foolish doing it. Remember when he crowded Bush's personal space and the look Bush gave him-it was priceless.

There isn't a word in this editorial about the Bush/Gore debates.
I did find this sentence particularly interesting though, especially for the Slimes.
The Kerry-Edwards team has a lot of interesting, detailed plans for a domestic agenda, particularly on health care. The promise to cut middle-class taxes, however, is pure pandering, given his new spending proposals and commitment to balanced budgets.

What the heck are you talking about? The words "Gore" or "debate" are nowhere to be found in this article. Click on the article itself, which brings you to the registration page, which I refuse to fill out. Here's the word for word quote from the hard copy of the paper:
"Modern presidential campaigns are all about expectations. George W. Bush benefited enormously from the assumption that he was not nearly as quick on his feet as A Gore, and as a result was able to demolish Mr. Gore in the debates... "
To: Labyrinthos
The internet version doesn't have that text.
To: Sir Gawain
Well that sucks. I wonder whether someone did some after the fact editing of the editorial. Its definately in the hard copy. Should I ask the moderator to pull?
To: TonyInOhio; Catphish
Increasing size of gov't isn't the solution to terrorism, nor is nation-building. Do you think Reagan's reaction to 9-11 would've been the immediate creation of more federal gov't? (I know, I know - Bush is no Reagan conservative. But still..)
Besides, 3 years later and $40 billion worth of new gov't in the form of Homeland Security and 90+% of cargo in our ports still isn't being inspected. Why Bush has felt it necessary to wait for the 9-11 Commission's recommendations to be released before taking action is puzzling in the post-9/11 era. I mean, it's been 3 years since 9-11. Shouldn't some of these things already be in place? Some damn "intelligence Czar" isn't going to put a halt to terror, esp. as long as the Mexican borders are wide-ass open.
We can rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan all we want. As long as the madrasas in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere continue to operate, terrorism seeds will continue to be planted.
Also, where's my Social Security reform? If it's not gonna happen with the GOP controlling the Legislative and Executive branches, it will NEVER happen.
Note: None of this is an endorsement of that assclown Kerry. I simply want more from the current President that I voted for.

Damned skippy he did. As some have said, Kerry is Gore without the charisma. The President is destined to make Kerry look like a certified Ass in the coming debates.

I am not so sure the President will have a huge edge in the debates. That is not necessarily his strong suit.
The President is at his best before a small audience. There he is able to reach each individual member of the audience. His speaking carries away the listener, who never loses interest because he always feels spoken to directly. He may speak about a random theme with an expertise that astonishes the specialists, or in speaking about everyday matters suddenly raise them to universal significance.
On such occasions the President can be more intimate and precise than a debate permits. He can go into the heart of things with irrefutable logic. Only one who has heard him in such a setting can understand his full brilliance as a speaker.
To: RealPiedPiper
No, dont ask the modreator to pull it. I find it very interesting that there's a difference between the print version and the net version. Another NYTimes scandal perhaps?Wow, I just looked at the on-line version using my co-workers log-on and it is not even close to what's in the printed hard copy. Someone is probably on the unemployment line this very moment for allowing anything even remotely complimentary to President Bush to appear on the editorial page.
To: Merry
Well, formats vary, but presidential debates don't bear the slightest resemblance to college debate.
And I'd hesitate to call what Presidential candidates do these days "debating." More like "soundbite opportunities" or whatever.
To: Labyrinthos
I remember the debates. There were three weren't there? As I recall, the first one was a toss-up. The second was a Bush win and in the third one, Bush won very decisively. I also remember Gore changing his image, makeup and approach in each debate...and I remember Gore reeling off an astonishing number of obviously checkable and weird lies in each debate.

I agree with that. My parents live just miles from Crawford so I've been fortunate enough to witness him in such a setting. Nevertheless, I still think he'll run all over Kerry.

I recall Bush winning the second and decisively winning the third, although you would have never known that after reading the NY Slimes at the time of the debates, which is what makes today's admission so astonishing.
To: Labyrinthos
Here's the first paragraph. It says nothing about Bush demolishing Gore in the debates.
Speakers at the Democratic convention were told to stay positive, but when John Kerry delivered his acceptance speech last night, his best moments came on the attack. His depiction of a Bush administration that misled the public into war did a fine job of rousing the faithful.

Remember the debate where it was set so they were standing and walking around the stage to talk? Gore stood right next to Bush while he was talking (TOO close), BUsh looked at him, and nodded at him like "Ahem, Hello, why are you right frickin next to me you creepy bastard"? and went right on talking?
That was soo damn funny I'm suprised I forgot about it. Anyone know where I could see that on video?

Bush destroying Gore was even funnier than Reagan destroying Carter. And you can see that both of them lapsed into a nutty, bitter miasma of emotional sickness in the years following.
The advantage that Bush has now is that Kerry has never accomplished anything in the Senate, as shown by his choosing to run on 4 months of Vietnam, and had spent his post-Vietnam and pre-Senate time being a radical anti-war wacko that contradicts everything he's claiming to be now. Bush needs to nuke him using Kerry's own words and images, countering every Kerry platitude or promise with Kerry's dereliction of duty, showing that Kerry's call for honesty is a call for America to examine and then thoroughly reject him.

Truth be known.....
Gore has NEVER been anything more than a Washington hotel raised POS, with NO character, talent or redeeming attributes..
Between his racist senator father, and money from the communist Armand Hammer -- He was a 100% red diaper, doper baby gas bag...
Poor bastard.. seeing his "destiny" to be president snatched from his thieving Chinese money grubbing hands -- drove him nuts... He has Trula lost his freaking mind..
I love seeing him now....I love seeing his pain and anguish..

And thank goodness the debates are structured in such a way that he won't be able to get away with it. If you have a very short time to answer a question and you do not, it's very obvious. All Bush needs to do is to say, "Well, once again my opponent has avoided answering the question" or "Well, once again my opponent, who claims to be interested in the truth, has failed to answer the question," etc..
