Sources: Al Qaeda Plotting to Attack New York City Corporations

N E W Y O R K, July 31, 2004? ABC News has learned that federal and New York City officials have received credible intelligence that al Qaeda has been plotting to carry out suicide attacks on corporations based in the city. |

| Sources at several law enforcement agencies tell ABC News that an "overseas source" has provided the information about the threat to New York and that it is more significant than the usual "chatter" intercepted from likely terrorists that has prompted warnings in the past. Officials from dozens of local and federal agencies met into the night Friday and again this morning. "Intelligence reporting indicates that al Qaeda continues to target for attack commercial and financial institutions, as well as international organizations, inside the United States," the New York City Police Department said in a statement released today on the "ongoing al Qaeda threat." "The NYPD recommends that corporate and institutional security directors review their protection of HVAC systems, parking installations, and security in general," the statement added. If an attack has to happen, I hope the attackers are dumb enough to do it before November. Unless it comes as a result of a major administration screwup, it's practically a guarantee of a Bush reelection.
I'm no longer as sure of that as I once was. Kerry's not-quite-spoken promise to "make all this war stuff go away" is very appealing to an ever-growing segment of the electorate. A repeat of the Spanish election debacle is not out of the question.
I know that they still keep talking about airplanes, but this is the sort of attack that is more realistic. A few rogue individuals laidened with explosives walking into lobbies and blowing themselves up in 8 to 9am hour.
Only information really needed to pass along is the date and rough time frame, if you wish to have something semi large. Next to impossible to stop the "lone wolf"....

If Kerry were to be elected, you could bet that the terrorists would strike hard and probably soon after the Inaguaration because they would want to see how he would respond to attacks.
They already know how Bush responds...but they've said they want to disrupt the election season, so maybe this has to do with that.
Plus, they say the target is NYC. Since the Convention is to be in NYC, an attack at this time might result in a change of plans for the RNC Convention.
Considering that Kerry refuses White House intelligence briefings and says he is relying on his own people, I'd like to know who those people are and what information they have. Can we blame him if there's an attack? After all, he hasn't warned us.

You got that right. Should an event occur there will be immediate calls from the Hillary and others left for us all to "come together and not politicize this". The left and media would immediately set out politicize it - with charges like "all that $ spent and what did it gain us? XXX dead?", and "they are clearly in no better control of the situation than before 9/11", and "the war is here not in Iraq"...
Do we REALLY need another attack in America to solidify a Bush win? WHY? Wasn't 9/11 enough to understand that THEY WANT US DEAD? That GW Bush is the answer to our safety?
People, I guess, are more into who the next American Idol is going to be than worry about the real threat against us. That's comforting.
Wouldn't surprise me if it shakes the cobwebs off a few 'camp' gates as well.
Is it just me, or does this smell like something quite different and more urgent that the many other threats we've heard about since 9/11? I've got a bad feeling about this...
