Mary Kay Letourneu to be released from prison in August

GIG HARBOR, Wash. - Mary Kay Letourneau, a teacher who had sex with her former sixth-grade student, is expected to be released from prison Aug. 4, rather than this month, according to the Washington Corrections Center for Women.
Prison officials said earlier her release date was July 17, but state Corrections Department spokesman Veltry Johnson said Thursday that would have been the earliest possible date. The later date was set after a review of her transition plan.
Letourneau received national attention for having two children with her former student, Vili Fualaau. He was 12 and she was a 34-year-old married mother of four when their relationship began in 1996 in the Seattle suburb of Burien.
The two said it was love and the boy initially denied he was a victim, but he and his mother sued the Highline School District and police two years ago for $1 million. Jurors found school officials and police were not responsible and awarded no money.
Breaking News: Mary has written a book about her affair with Vili and she will be released from prison in August 2004. Mary's former cellmate, Christina Dress, her close friend and co-author of her book doesn't want to do anything that could cause Letourneau trouble behind bars. When Mary arrived at Purdy women's prison in 1998, she was harassed by inmates.

I think what we will see, now that he's older, and she's getting out, is a glorification of all of this..and that it was all ofr 'Love'.
Gawd, can you image being the father of two kids before you're 14? The poor kid's life is ruined. It would have been bad enough to have had sex with him, but to conceive?
I know a lot of guys are snorting, "Why couldn't I have had a teacher like that?" Think of the kind of adjustments he's going to have to make trying to have normal relationships with girls his own age. Would you want your daughter to go to the prom with him? To marry him?

I think the sexual problem between students and teachers is a lot more widespread than we realize, and has been going on a long time. I found out a lot of things about students I knew in 8-10th grades who had affairs with teachers. Most of the time the student was female and the teacher was male... and it was the female student who was practically stalking the male teacher. And they did sneak around and see each other and some of the gals even had sex with their older male teacher. Must be kind of like a "celebrity worship" thing with the female students chasing the older male teachers - because they weren't hot looking guys.
And I am talking about affairs between young girls and older male teachers back in the 1960s. 1964-1969. It was very widespread. I had suspected some of these girls because of the way they flirted with the teachers, and one would even go up and give the teacher a back/neck massage in 8th grade history class. These gals have confessed in later years to having sex with these teachers. Must be partly raging hormones of puberty getting in the way of clear thinking!
Who wants to bet that LeTourneau somehow gets really rich off this? Michael Moore will probably want to make a movie, extoling the virtues of this woman.--LOL!
We had a girl in my class in 1960 that got straight A's in one teachers class while getting C's in anothers. Back then we didnt have lockers we had cloakrooms. One day we caught them in the cloak room engaging in sexual things. Nothing was said except among students, it never got dealt with officially. We also had a Art teacher,female , who chose high school Seniors boys to favor.She wasnt much more than a kid herself 22 or 23 probably.
MkL has reversed, enhanced, destroyed and remanufactured every stereotype we ever had from foreplay, to the dirty deed, to motivational & future consequences, to a complete disreguard of social consequences.
She needs her own personalized rulebook, written and enforced by a warden for as long as she's allowed to breath.
I consider myself a pretty upright, principled and virtuous man.
I had the normal 1950's Catholic upbringing, but if an older woman had offered me sexual favors when I was 14, I doubt that I would have resisted.
I truly hope that should you have been in a situation like this, that even as a 12 yr old, after fathering one child, you would have the sense not to father another one. I know about young boys and the hormone thing--but good grief!!

I've got a better idea: How about a prisoner exchange (we take one of their female prisoners and we send MKL) with the Magic Kingdom (Saudi Arabia).
Now that he is 20 and she has no job, she can petition for custody and sue him for child support.
As a 12 year, living in another country in another era, I would have felt enormous shame. Now the President of the United States takes advantage of an impressionable and naive young woman, over whom he has authority and for whom he has at least an implied duty of care and the culture chuckles.
This kind of stuff will be our downfall.
This happened in my area, and I knew a lot of the kids that went to school with him. They were all caught up in all of the termoil and it caused many young kids to do things they shouldn't even contemplate for years.
