They were roping the dopes again. The statement is a shot across the bow to the rats that if they don't knock it off with their 527 ads,then the GOP will pull out all the stops. They are being very clever ,not slamming the vets but the 527's.

In essence, while the WH is saying stop...they do not mention the vet ad even a tad.
They are essentially saying if Kerry pushes for Moveon to shut up, then perhaps things could stop.
It is in very parsed displo-speak so the WH doesn't look like they are advocating the ad in illegal coordination, but the real story is that they refuse to repudiate the ad.

I heard ABC radio news cover this story. They tried at first to make it sound like the WH was siding with McCain's comments from earlier today, but then when they played some snippets from the briefing I was very pleased with the WH response.

Kerry today noting that he wouldn't have stayed at the school on 9/11 is a perfect lead-in to this story as, it sounded to me as if he was saying, Kerry would have run away like a screaming baby at first sign of trouble, just like he did running away from Vietnam.
If a media outlet misrepresents a statement at a white house briefing, why don't they simply suspend that particular media outlet from white house access for 1 week? How could they protest the action?
I think this was a very interesting statement by Kerry today. I really believe he wanted say something fairly shocking to make sure he was on the frontpage and the Swift Boat crew was on the back page.
It will be interesting to see how much of an impact this book and ad will have on the undecideds. If it is like F9/11 then it will not have much of an impact. If people want to dig down deep and gather the truth then it will have a devastating impact.

Are the 527 groups and their ads legal according to the current campaign finance laws?
Have negative 527 ads been aired by democrats against GW Bush?
Do the Swift boat vets have a right to voice their concerns about a former boatmate's lying as he runs to become the Commander in Chief?
If the answer to the above is yes, yes, and yes, then Dubya better realize soon that it is unwise to show up at a gun fight with a knife! Else, President Kerry is going to be sworn in next Jan 20......
