NBC: British suspect named in 9/11 report
MSNBC and NBC ^ | August 5 | NBC’s Robert Windrem in New York and Pete Williams in Washington, MSNBC.com’s Alex Johnson and The A

Posted on 08/05/2004 7:27:49 PM PDT by ganeshpuri89

One of the terrorist suspects arrested in Britain this week is the man named in the report by the Sept. 11 commission as the operative al-Qaida sent to the United States to review possible economic and “Jewish” targets a few months before the terrorist attacks in 2001, NBC News reported Thursday.

Two years earlier, the man, Abu Eisa al-Hindi, a British citizen of Indian descent, wrote a terrorist training manual describing how to kill enemy soldiers using remote-controlled explosives, grenades and automatic weapons, according to a copy of the manual obtained by NBC News.

Referring to al-Hindi by his nom de guerre, Issa al-Britani, the independent commission that investigated the Sept. 11 attacks quotes a CIA interrogation of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, al-Qaida’s operations chief, as saying he sent al-Hindi “to the United States to case potential economic and ‘Jewish’ targets in New York City” in early 2001. Mohammed, who was captured in March 2003, said the trip was made as he considered “other possibilities for terrorist attacks” beyond those on New York and Washington that were carried out on Sept. 11.

...

The manual, titled “The Army of Madinah in Kashmir,” says al-Hindi was born into a Hindu household but “reverted to Islam at the age of 20.” He fought in the disputed Kashmir region in the mid-1990s before returning to Britain. After writing the manual, it says, he went to Afghanistan for a year and became a “trainer in one of the many Mujahideen training camps.”

I have to believe that they would have numerous alternate targets, which is much easier with ground targets as compared to airplanes.

MSNBC says al-Hindi is linked to Abu Hamza al-Masri. So is Mohammed Noor Naem Khan.

I question the timing of this whole thing. Wouldn't be surprised if the criminal Bush administration arrests more terrorists and stops more terrorist attacks, in order to assure it's reelection. Such horrible people.

Impossible, we have no allies and our lack of international relations coupled with the overextension of military forces around the world means we cannot possibly fight the war on terror effectively.

al-Hindi was born into a Hindu household but “reverted to Islam at the age of 20.”

This doesn't pass the smell test.

Hindus rarely convert to Islam, and even then usually through Ismailism, which is a very non-jihadist sect not recognized by conventional Sunni Islam.

The Army of Madinah in Kashmir

Esa Al-Hindi

The book has been written a brother who was born into a Hindu household. After reverting to Islaam at the age of 20 he was drawn to the highest pinnacle in Islaam. The book describes the authors personal experience in occupied kashmir fighting the Indian forces

Author ‘Esa Al-Hindi

Abstract UNDER THE KASHMIRI MOON…

ABOUT THE BOOK The disease of Wahn (love for the world, and dislike of fighting) is now truly rampant throughout the Ummah, and the state of Kashmir is but a symptom of a world wide epidemic. If it was not for those few international Mujahideen who drive fear into the hearts of the disbeliever’s, bringing some semblance of honour to our nation, we would be in total humiliation unparalleled since the time of the Rasul (saw). Based on first hand experience inside Occupied Kashmir, the author has vividly brought to life through his writings, accounts of the Mujahideen in one of the most treacherous war zones in the world.

to review possible economic and "Jewish" targets a few months before the terrorist attacks in 2001 Strange, wasn't someone blaming the Jews for the attacks on the WTC?

One source told CNN that law enforcement authorities have definitively placed al-Hindi in three of the buildings that were cased -- the New York Stock Exchange and the Citigroup building in New York City and the Prudential Financial building in Newark, New Jersey.

Here's another angle on all this. Shaukat Aziz the Pakistani Finance Minister and Prime Minister in Waiting who escaped an assassination attempt on Friday was a President in Citibank before he became Finance Minister.

Aziz is from Karachi.

Also, the IMF and World Bank hold their second annual meeting this October in Washington.

A senior counterterrorism said there had been several anxious days when the British authorities who had been trailing Mr. Hindi apparently lost sight of him after American intelligence learned of his significance.

I'd like to know how much time there was between the announcement in US of terror warning/targets and the arrest of the 12 in Britain on Tuesday that al-Hindi was arrested with?

I find it hard to believe that this guy wouldn't already have been arrested when the US went public with the info.

Have you seen this:

It emerged last night that Khan was forced to take part in an undercover sting to help British and US officials.

His arrest was kept secret and he was made to continue talking to his contacts around the world — including those in Britain and at least six in the US. The ruse helped identify the UK suspects.

A senior government official in Islamabad said: “During his detention he regularly communicated through email with the al-Qaeda operatives.”

I put together a list about a month ago but stopped updating it after SITE came out with theirs.

Here's mine.

SITE's is better. They have pictures and keep it up to date. I do have some info they don't have though.

I'm curious about something. Were you able to download that list without having to join my Yahoo Group! I've always wondered about that.
