Fox News has just reported the Boston Globe/Swift Boat Veteran "retraction" of his damninmg words about Kerry as fact, and omitted that the man quoted has since called the Globe a liar and reaffirmed his statement.
Is Fox screwed-up or has this story changed again??
I was just gonna post the same question. What is going on?

here is the truth
ANTI-KERRY VETS HANG TOUGH Drudge Report ^ | Fri Aug 06 2004 13:37:12 ET Posted on 08/06/2004 1:51:08 PM EDT by Brian Mosely The following statement from Swift Boat Veterans for Truth concerns an article appearing in morning edition of the Boston Globe: "Viet Vet Captain George Elliott describes an article appearing in todays edition of the Boston Globe by Mike Kranish as extremely inaccurate and highly misstating his actual views. He reaffirms his statement in the current advertisement paid for by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Captain Elliott reaffirms his affidavit in support of that advertisement, and he reaffirms his request that he ad be played. Additional documentation will follow. The article by Mr. Kranish is particularly surprising given page 102 of Mr. Kranishs own book quoting John Kerry as acknowledging that he killed a single, wounded, fleeing Viet Cong soldier whom he was afraid would turn around. Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has more than 250 supporters who are revealing first hand, eyewitness accounts of numerous incidents concerning John Kerrys military service record. The organization will continue to discuss much of what John Kerry has reported as fact concerning his four-month tour of duty in Vietnam. END
Lately Fox has been trying to show that they're "balanced". In other words, they've moved hard left.
ABC news feed( 3:05) failed to say that the officer said he was misquoted also and wanted the ad to continue ..
The problem is...as I understand it...is that there is no other source for this "retracted retraction" than Drudge's website. Until there is, no major media outlet will report otherwise.
Fox is UNWATCHABLE lately!!!
I just heard Jim Angle on "Special Report" talking about this. All I can say is this....Fox News Channel seems to be on a search and destroy mission against President Bush. The libs at Fox are all coming out of the woodwork.
They are dead wrong as usual and FOX is one of the worst on this subject.
I think it is the influence of Bill O'reilly.
In fact, I am almost sure of it.
Well at the rate they've gone lately, the only balance they will have is being equal to CNN, MSNBC, and the networks.
Surely they must know that their success is absolutely because they stood alone in honest reporting. If they lose that, they will lose their audience too.
An alternative is that he made some strong statement in the affidavit that he wishes he hadn't made.
Two things are clear: the media is making a smoke screen out of this, and the veteran stands squarley behind, and supports the recent ad, he stands behind all of the word he said in that ad, and he wants that ad to keep running.
As for fox, leave the teevee watching to the pros, and get your news on FR ;-)

I think you're dead on! I sure noticed it too. Among others.
I believe Angle did say that Elliot is still one with the Vets.

Elliott has refuted what the Globe hack reported.
They are caving to the lawyer leg-breaking by the second. I don't trust them at all anymore. I rely on the internet for my news now. I saw OReilly last night and wretched at the Dick Morris conversation about the Swifties. Then when Hannity came on next, he had, as his cohost the extreme makeover babe, Susan Estrich grilling the Vet. Fox seems to now be in the Kerry-Kamf.
There is only 2 stations that I know aren't airing the commercial. Some of the others stated they would look at the claims to avoid possible libel but later stated they would air them. I'm not sure how the Globe could allow this journalist to write this since he's the same guy that is writing on behalf of Kerry?
Ummm, the man himself, for one, and the Swift Boat vets website, for another. Plenty of "source." What you are seeking is a media that will report honsetly, and that is a dreamworld.
I just sent off an email to Special Report (Jim Angle is filling in for Britt) and sent him the link to Drudge. I told him he better double check his facts before reporting. Sheesh:(
The Swifties themselves are the source.

The signed affidavit can be seen below. Needless to say, I'm very dissappointed in FOX lately.
Nam Vet
I have never sent so many emails to them! Earlier, I sent one th Ailes.
I think they are trying to be provacative and edgy. I don't think they give a damn if you watch because you agree or if you having apoplexy: all that matters are the numbers. Still, this sort of reporting is carrying water for Kerry.
If one more FNC news staff calls F'n an *indisputable* hero, I may just destroy the set!
The contrast between the way the media reported the allegations about Geo. W. Bush's National Guard service (half-truths and inuendos, incessantly, for weeks!), and they way they're reporting this swift boat vets' story ("discredit it as quickly as possible"), makes me sick to my stomach.
And what the heck is going on with DRUDGE??? I just tried to get him on my BOOKMARK. He's not there. Anybody else having the same problem? Have we already been taken over? ( :
There is a concerted effort to shoot this story down. Can anyone venture a guess as to what is going on behind the scenes. Fear of legal action doesn't work for me.
"Surely they must know that their success is absolutely because they stood alone in honest reporting. If they lose that, they will lose their audience too."
I just sent an email to: roger.ailes@ foxnews.com
Told him if Fox keeps looking more and more like CNN, then they will lose lots of viewers.
Maybe this has something to do with it. Maybe not. Who knows.

Fox News filled the market vacuum created when CNN replaced Al-Jazeera as the preeminent terrorist network.
This is the most hysterical thread I have read in a long time.
I emailed and called. I am furious.

Voice message on correcting Fox errors.
I gave them a mouthful
The last 2 days on Fox have been unbelievable. O'Reilly, Shep, and a few of the day time people are treating these Swift Vets like they have cooties.
How come they aren't credible? I honestly see no difference in their bona fides (Band of Brothers vs. Swift Vets), other than Swift(s)are saying Kerry lied.
Come on Fox, let US decide. Sheesssh
A danger problem which often results in a fatal crash.
The Senator is no hero. These SwiftBoat veterans are HEROS.
The other networks have lost viewers because of the liberal bias (Lies) they spun. Does Fox feel itself immune?
They are wrong, if so. To date they have been the only option available. While not conservative they did allow the truth to be heard. If truth ceases to be heard their need to exist evaporates.
I've lived without TV news for years. It isn't hardship to live without it again.
My advice: cut Fox News Channel a huge break. They have to walk on infinitely fine egg shells right now to avoid even the smidgen of an appearance of a likelihood of being in President Bush's pocket. Particularly on this highly charged Presidential election issue. The safe, prudent thing for them to do is to report the same as the liberal media right now. It is not the time for Fox News Channel to go to bat on a questionable issue.
For them to stick their necks out, they've got to be 100% certain of being right and the liberal media of being wrong.
It's PC hysteria. Fox is not immune. O'Reilly has what looks to be close to a terminal dose.
Not to worry. The rest of the story will come out tomorrow, thereby extending the coverage into another news cycle.
I bet the DNC threatened to pull all ads from Fox owned stations....
relax, they are being fair and balanced. Some of the commentators are pro-swift boat vets and some are anti-swift boat vets and some are in the middle.
Sure sounds like fair and balanced to me.
What we don't want is for the Dems to accuse Fox of spearheading this campaign
Some seriously subversive thought here. You're going to be filing reports to the mods all night!
It address my horror at Jim Angle's news show at dinnertime. The first segment was an overt, unashamed ad for Kerry.
Leni
I sent an email to Brit hume/Jim Angle about the inaccurate statement and enclosed Elliots statement. If they offer the retraction tomorrow, it's a day too late. The viewership is not the same on the weekend.
Apparently, Fox News Channel has forgotten who brought them to this party.
Perhaps it's time to remind them.
Take those flags off your lapels, FOX.
Uh...No, they don't.
Their obligation is to the TRUTH. Wasn't CNN smeared for failing to report the truth in Iraq so they could secure a base of operations? Why should FOX be given a pass?
If they refuse to report the truth they have earned the moniker of "mainstream media". They become irrelevent to me.
