Well, I tried and failed to educate ill-informed you.

Now why don't you run along and go post on DU where all the "tolerant and compassionate slobberers" hang out.

If you're so well informed, why don't you give the rest of us some facts, instead of the vague bile that characterizes your rude posts on this thread?

My, you are a bitter little person, aren't you? Let me attempt to educate ill-informed you, if that's possible. The abuse that others suffer is not proof that they deserve it, or proof that you are better than they. I don't understand your need to contribute to the abuse, and I really don't want you to educate me to the point that I would agree with that. You can tell me all day long how you are so much better than victims of abuse, and their abuse is proof enough for you, but I'm not buying into it. You can believe that you would have unlimited courage under torture, but until you've been there, you don't really know. Few of us have the necessary courage, and even those who do don't have it at all times. Few of us know of any outside help available to escape such a situation. There are many factors involved. It's not a simple matter of me being a good mother because I got my child away from my abuser, and Hedda Nussbaum being an evil person because she didn't. I must agree with you that she had a responsibility to those kids, and she failed them miserably. She was wrong, no question about it. We'd all like to think that no matter how much we are tortured, we could never drag another into our suffering. We wouldn't allow our children to suffer. If we were soldiers being tortured by the enemy we wouldn't provide information or propaganda that would put other soldiers at risk. The reality is that we usually do. When your torturer breaks you down, you usually do whatever he wants you to do. That's the reality. It has nothing to do with how good a person you were to begin with. There, but for the grace of God, go I.
