The Weakly Standard bashed Keyes and the Illinois GOP.

share it with folks who want a contrast to the Week Standard's snarly hit piece on Keyes.

we heard Alan Keyes speak for the first time. His performance was electric, leaving me stunned by his talent and leading my wife to express an interest in politics for the first time, well, ever.

Keyes has that effect on people. He's not only erudite, but a true Conservative on the issues. That the RNC hasn't chosen him as yet speaks volumes about where the RNC is today. I can hardly wait for the debates.

I registered in '86 for the GOP in my home state of NY. I was a strong Reagan man and still am, and never voted for a dem in a major election - the closest I came was that I would have voted for Koch in 1989 (if Rudy wasn't the nominee, I liked Ed), and I couldn't vite for Bloomberg, I voted for Mark Green (sickening I know). Otherwise, I am an overwhelmingly GOP voter.

But sometimes the GOP deserves to be bashed.

I avoid an instinctive dems bad,' 'republicans good' mindset. It helps me think with better clarity.

Reed gave the nod to Bob Dole. I reeled in my seat on our broken down futon. If the head of the Christian Coalition could bypass Keyes' obvious oratorical gifts and prophetic moral conviction for an unexciting parliamentarian, I concluded the organization had misplaced priorities. Dole lost to Clinton and went on to make big bucks pitching Viagra more effectively than he ever pitched himself or his message to the American people.

Thanks for reminding me of that dud. That decision had to be the biggest disappointment of the year for me.

Does anyone know where I can find some of his audio speeches online?

I have had my doubts about Keyes' tactics over the last few years, but he can be incredibly agile in debate, and I would predict that despite the current flurry of contempt from the left, they will not be eager to put their wonder-boy up against him in a one-on-one forum.

Makes me think that the Keyes/Obama race will get more press then the Bush/Kerry race.

Then again, could you blame the press for it?

Obama is a great speaker, he's a liberal and I disagree with everything he says, but he's a great orator.

Keyes is a FANTASTIC speaker, and he's a conservative and I agree with everthing he says, and he's a great orator.

This could be the political race of my lifetime, this is gonna be a great show.

There has NEVER been a battle of the titans like this one will be, There is a definite choice in this race.

These 2 could not be more opposite if they tried.

The debates are going to be fantastic...

I'm sorry. I didn't suggest otherwise.

All I was saying is that its perfectly legit to bash the GOP when they deserve it.

This time, I think someone can reasonably come to the position that the IL GOP deserves it in this case. Or they can reasonably come to another position.

But just bashing the GOP or Keyes or Dubya or anyone (if deserved) is fair. I am a strong Reagan man, always have been, but don't get me started about the Marine barracks and the aftermath, for example. Reagan really blew that one.
