"As I travel around this state, I don't get asked about gay marriage, I don't get asked about abortion," Obama said. "I get asked, 'How can I find a job that allows me to support my family.'

The stupid party better get with the program.

He prayed a lot over it, and reached a resolution.

That's good enough for me. I wish every candidate could honestly say that!

Yep, I agree. However he needs to communicate with the people of Illinois, not just to them. Otherwise he will look really poor. Obama has the idea in this where he said he is going around the State talking to people. Keyes needs to get out there. Or else - why is he doing this?

The difference too is that Pat Buchanan wasn't actually from New York. The difference is that Pat Buchanan wanted Keyes to run an Independence/Right-to-Life/Conservative campaign against Giuliani and leave the GOP. The difference is that there was a former pro-life COngressman who stepped forward to make the campaign as the Right-to-Life candidate and Rick Lazio replaced Giuliani, and Lazio wasn't pro-partial birth abortion. The difference between now and then are great.

I agree. Keyes can win this, but he has a lot of catching up to do.

Maybe. We can only hope. However I give it two months before he changes his mind and drops out.

"Illinois conservatives, who have long taken a back seat to business-oriented party moderates, engineered the selection of Keyes as the replacement candidate. "

I like Keyes, but he doesn't have a chance. He's up against the Chicago mob. I hope Keyes gives them hell though. He thinks in terms of ideals. Obama wants to bring home entitlements to his constituents. This makes me believe that Obama should really be running for a seat in the House and not the Senate. He doesn't belong there.

Reconstruction-era (1865-1877) South, Mississippi and Alabama, I think. They were Republicans, BTW.

Has Keyes got a campaign contribution address yet? I'll keep sending money as long as he keeps focused on Obama.

Win or lose don't matter.

This all depends on how badly the Party wants the seat. They have given up on Illinois before. For Carol Mosley Braun to have ever been elected at all is a testament against the commitment of the party with regard to Illinois and also a testament to the inexplicable stupidity of Illinois voters. The fact that they keep re-electing Durbin is disturbing enough.

67 Obama 28 Keyes I believe, there is a thread on it earlier.

Even if Keyes were to narrow the gap and Obama were to win 55% to 40%, it would still mean that in the state of Illinois, there would be 15% less liberals and 15% more conservative believers. I would call that progress.

It's about time Keyes went out and preached to more than the choir.

Yeah. I found Dr. Keyes's excuse for doing what he criticized Hillary Clinton for back in 2000 to be very lame.

Criticism of Hillary back in 2000 for running in the state of NY was lame. If somebody wants to move to a state and run, let them.

However, I do loath Hillary for everything else she stands for.

"That was the home-state special," Obama cracked. He declined to set a specific number, adding that staffers in the two campaigns would iron on the details later

What do you want to be that the specific number is "0"?
