The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

With the nation on high alert for al-Qaida terrorists, the Department of Homeland Security is putting its border officers through "etiquette" classes to soften their image and make them less threatening to arriving foreign immigrants, WorldNetDaily has learned.

Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that this beloved Pope has been untiring in his earthly mission. Even as he sees the end of his life is at hand, he continues. Strengthen Pope John Paul II in the days ahead, O God ... grant unto him clarity of thought and resolute purpose until the time when this servant of God is called to Your side. Our times are in Your hand, Merciful Father, yet the mourning for this humble man has begun. Look with mercy upon us, O God, in the Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen ...

Local man arrested after suspicious fax (Athens, Ohio)
2004-08-16

A Nelsonville man was arrested on an intimidation charge Wednesday after he allegedly sent a fax message to Athens County Municipal Court, suggesting that the court would be a place to find information on constructing a "thermo-atomic device."

Ameil Steve Weller, 35, of West Columbus Street in Nelsonville, was arrested after the fax was traced to his machine, and has been placed in jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Weller's fax allegedly also contained racial slurs, according to a press release from the Athens County Prosecutor's Office.

The release states that Weller was in the local municipal court last month on a littering charge. He also, however, has a 1993 conviction in Florida for making dangerous devices, and a 1994 conviction in the same state for possessing dangerous devices, according to the prosecutor.

Officers allegedly seized items from Weller including a federal flight regulations manual, a pilot's manual, instructions for manufacturing chemicals, and a New York City map.

The FBI has been advised of the case. Weller is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Friday.

The article states that Al-Qaida scouts are posing as Christians!

Published August 16, 2004

Al-Qaida scouts work in U.S., officials say
FBI has opened several hundred investigations; terrorists reportedly using non-Arab recruits.

By John Diamond and Toni Locy
Usa Today

Washington - Al-Qaida allies are believed to be scouting U.S. targets in several states, and the terror organization is using non-Arabic recruits to avoid detection, U.S. law enforcement and intelligence officials say.

The FBI has counterterrorism investigations in virtually all 56 of its field offices but has not broken up a known surveillance cell, either because agents are tailing suspects who have not committed crimes or because they have descriptions but not identities.

It is unclear how many al-Qaida scouts are in the United States.

"The FBI has their eye on or has opened several hundred investigations of people sympathetic to or supportive of al-Qaida," Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said. "If we knew somebody was here as an operative - and we knew who they were or where they were - they wouldn't be on the street."

Information about active cells came from Ridge and three intelligence and law enforcement officials who would not speak for attribution because such information is classified.

One of the three, a senior U.S. intelligence official, responded to criticism that the Bush administration raised the terrorism threat level based on new information about surveillance done by al-Qaida several years ago. The official said the cells:

* Have been in the United States off and on since the early 1990s, and some are still here.

* Are focused primarily, though not exclusively, on the two coasts in states such as New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia, Michigan and California.

* Operate under deep cover, sometimes hiding their Muslim faith by posing as Christians.

* Are isolated from each other and from al-Qaida members who would carry out attacks.

Counterterrorism officials have learned about suspected surveillance by terrorist sympathizers by intercepting communications, interrogating captives and exploiting seized documents and computers.

Hope this hasn't been linked here already, didn't see it at any rate.

Rio Grande: Gateway to Terrorism-More and more Arab terrorists decide to make a run for the border

snips~~~~~~

Over the past month, border agents from Arizona and Texas have anonymously reported recent encounters with dozens of Arab men, who have made their way across the 2,000-mile Mexican border.

Patrol agents told one Arizona newspaper that 77 males "of Middle Eastern descent" were apprehended in June in two separate incidents. All were trekking through the Chiricahua mountains and are believed to have been part of a larger group of illegal immigrants. Many were released pending immigration hearings. According to Solomon Ortiz, the Congressman for Corpus Christi in Texas, similar incidents are "happening all over the place. It's very, very scary".

The two groups of Arab males were discovered by patrol guards from Willcox, Arizona. "These guys didn't speak Spanish," said one field agent, "and they were speaking to each other in Arabic. It's ridiculous that we don't take this more seriously. We're told not to say a thing to the media." A colleague told the paper: "All the men had brand-new clothing and the exact same cut of moustache." Local ranchers have also reported a rise in the sightings of large groups of young males.....

"My concern is, are we serious about terrorism?" said Sheriff Jernigan. "Or about homeland security? Because we're turning loose non-Mexicans by the thousands. Entering this country illegally is a crime, and we're turning our heads and ignoring it."

One more interesting article here, from a Scottish paper. They've got problems there too.

How safe are we from the terrorists within?

The concerns of most of us, however, in the post 9/11 world are rather more practical than cerebral. On being told that 20 of the 82 people on a hit-list of al-Qaeda terrorist suspects live in Scotland, many people want less intellectual argument about whether or not America is an imperial Soddom and Gomorrah and more analysis as to whether our laws are up to protecting us from any harm that these alleged terrorists might be planning. ...

We certainly live in strange times when those suspected of being the enemy within are, if arrested, heralded as greater martyrs than those who jumped to their deaths from the World Trade Centre, and when the arguments of human-rights lawyers can dismiss painstaking operations by the police and security services as so much chaff in the wind.

Well JP, if the huge Russian newspaper PRAVDA features a story on this guy, then perhaps it deserves some sort of scrutiny.

We don't know who he really is, but IMHO some who lurk and occasionally post on this Thread do (and those people are as frightening as that guy himself).

Good shooting. I am not as professional as you guys are. We have shooting ranges taken care of by the state. They are just an opening in the mountains with everything marked off and a place to put your targets and it is FREE!

I have a blast when friends and family come up from Atlanta with there 9mm and .45. I beat them every time with my .22. They all say "I want stopping power" and I tell them "when I hit them in the eye I believe it will stop them."

I encourage all women to learn to shoot. It's FUN! Hint for first time shooters, I started out with an air gun.

"Towns with ancient names."

My first thought, could it be they choose names that are
words that are known to them?

When i retired, a move was a thought, and I would not have
chosen a name that I didn't like.

Cedar City, Utah was considered. City of Industry, Calif,
would never have gotten a first look.

If I was nuts, I would want to be the ruler of Athens, not
Nelsonville.

It is sweet! FIRST shot my husband said you missed the whole target, we went to look, dead center.

Always a good feeling. A friend allowed me to shoot his Thompson Contender with a match quality .22LR barrel. First shot at 25 yards looked incredible. I pulled the target back from the 25 yard mark. It was dead center. Like someone took an office paper punch to the target. My "buddy" was so jealous that he ran the target out to 15 feet and nailed it with a 12 gauge shotgun. We don't go shooting together anymore.

I have two rifles on my wish list. The Ruger 10/22 with the hammer-forged (spiral) bull barrel and a Savage 12-series in .204 Ruger with the precision trigger. The 10/22 is a fine tack driver at 100 yards. The .204 Ruger produces 4000 fps muzzle velocity. That looks to be a very fine target rifle. I don't know if I'm ever going to have time to do any hunting.

Fire erupts in Juneau's downtown
"TINDERBOX": Firefighters throw everything they have at stubborn building blaze.

By CATHY BROWN
The Associated Press

JUNEAU -- A major fire that may have started from a roof-tarring job Sunday burned a 103-year-old building containing at least three businesses in downtown Juneau.

KTOO radio reported that the fire was called in as a small blaze but spread quickly in a building occupied on the first floor by a Subway sandwich shop and a Chinese restaurant. Other businesses, including a travel firm, were on the second floor.

The building on the southeast corner of Front and Seward streets is a block from the waterfront and three blocks south of the Capitol. Front Street was the original waterfront of Juneau. Mine tailings were used as fill to create another city block.

Downtown Juneau is crowded with tightly packed wood buildings, many of them more than 50 years old, and firefighters rushed in to keep flames from spreading.

Witnesses said the fire created yellow-brown smoke that enveloped much of central downtown and made it hard to see and breathe.

The entire Capital City Fire and Rescue corps was on the scene dousing roofs of nearby buildings, including a Ben Franklin store separated from the damaged building by an alley. Firefighters cordoned off streets at least a block in each direction.

The fire was called in at 3 p.m., City Manager Rod Swope said.

Firefighters were pulled out of the buildings about 4:30 p.m. because of the amount of smoke.

There had been no injuries, Swope said, and firefighting operations were in a defensive mode.

As of 8 p.m., flames were still visible and firefighters continued to pour water onto the building.

"I would say this is going to be an all-night affair," said Martin Beckner, acting fire chief.

Wade Bryson, owner of the Subway restaurant, said the fire began during a small roof-tarring repair job. The roof of the building caved in, he said, and his business was lost.

"This is just a 100-year-old tinderbox," he said.

Beckner would not confirm the cause and said several possibilities had been mentioned.

He said layers of roofing and void spaces caused the fire to spread quickly. He said the old building had been expanded several times.

"New fire codes are designed because of instances like this," he said.

Antonio Dusi, a tourist from Italy, said the firefighting was keeping him from reaching his room at the Alaskan Hotel a block away on Franklin Street. He had a ferry ticket for Haines for today. Police told him to walk around for a while.

"At least I would like to collect the luggage, if not sleep," he said.

The temperature in Juneau on Sunday reached 78 degrees, and skies already were hazy from forest fires in British Columbia

OK you are getting over my head but the The Ruger 10/22 is one of my husband's favorite, he has a few/several vagarious and all the extras to go with (wink). I ask him all the time is he going to fight Saddam himself.

I read all the talk about guns on the thread but it makes me nervous. We watched Tomestone AGAIN last night so I am fired up.

We never take the shotguns out not much fun except the double barrel 410 pistol but we can shoot it around the house.

Now if I thought I was was in danger. I would get out the Mossberg 9 shot. We found the mini shotgun shells so it will hold 13 (I think) one chambered Can you believe we picked this up at wallmart?

My first thought, could it be they choose names that are words that are known to them?

Either that or there are far more cities/towns/villages etc. with ancient names than I ever realized. LOL!

There's nothing to wait for, really. I'm sure that the mullahs are hoping that Israel takes out the reactor, so they have some semblance of an excuse to use the nukes that they have.
