A close associate hints: There's a secret compartment in Kerry's briefcase. He carries the black attaché everywhere. Asked about it on several occasions, Kerry brushed it aside. Finally, trapped in an interview, he exhaled and clicked open his case.
"Who told you?" he demanded as he reached inside. "My friends don't know about this."
The hat was a little mildewy. The green camouflage was fading, the seams fraying.
"My good luck hat," Kerry said, happy to see it. "Given to me by a CIA guy as we went in for a special mission in Cambodia."
Kerry put on the hat, pulling the brim over his forehead. His blue button-down shirt and tie clashed with the camouflage. He pointed his finger and raised his thumb, creating an imaginary gun. He looked silly, yet suddenly his campaign message was clear: Citizen-soldier. Linking patriotism to public service. It wasn't complex after all; it was Kerry.
He smiled and aimed his finger: "Pow."

June 2003 article?
I just heard that on the way into work - what a doofus
He mentioned that "Cambodia Thing" again in this piece. Just last year. This has been demonstrated to be a lie. That is significant.
Says it all ...
"His blue button-down shirt and tie clashed with the camouflage."
Was the Navy using green CAMOUFLAGE during Viet Nam?
Did I read with enough flare & poetic license? ... it was hard to keep from rolling on the floor while reading it aloud; try it sometime :)
That is as bad as the picture of him holding up two ears of corn. What a dufuss!
I am aware that we did have special ops going into surrounding countries (I know these former SOG guys personally). However, if that were true for Kerry, I am pretty sure his command chain would have known about. Also, his security clearance agreement would have prohibited him from talking about it.
So, Kerry is either a liar, or a national security risk. Take your pick.
John F'n Kerry invented Viet Nam.
Thanks for posting! Heard the tail-end of this on the radio this morning and was wondering how I could find the whole article.
This is too weird.
He was in Cambodia before all his COs said he wasn't in Cambodia, while all along he really was in Cambodia with a CIA guy, which was around Christmas 1968 when Nixon was in office, except Nixon didn't take office until 4 weeks later, and during all of this he says he committed wartime atrocities, but instead personally applied for and got 3 medals for valor, so he could get back to the US ASAP and protest wartime atrocities.
Lord, have mercy.
I think I understand their strategy now. Make Kerry's Vietnam experience so confusing that people will give up on trying to figure it out. Then the hope is that we'll say "at least he's not Bush."
Yeah, that'll work (not).
I pick both liar AND national security risk.
Can you listen to her on line? I'm in NC.
Just saw on the news, Kerry is going to be about 3 miles from my house this morning.........Got my sign ready......KERRY-sign the 180 Form----U R A DISGRACE!!!!!
Wish me luck and hope I dont go to jail!!!!!
John F'n Kerry invented Viet Nam. And he won it, before he lost it.
"So, Kerry is either a liar, or a national security risk. Take your pick."
I choose both of the above.
"Wish me luck and hope I dont go to jail!!!!!"
Wishing you all the luck in the world. Do you have AAA. They have a bail bond thing. LOL. Stay out of trouble. Report back if possible.
His campaign still has not yet replied to the Cambodia statements..a sure sign that they're in deep doo-doo..sending out Lanny Davis on Hannity last night didn't accomplish much..the point, obviously, is that if it is conclusively shown that Kerry lied about being in Cambodia, then it's a natural assumption that he lied about the other stuff..
"Was the Navy using green CAMOUFLAGE during Viet Nam?"
Actually- Special Forces wore "Duck Hunter" camo in Nam...so it's certainly possible a CIA guy was wearing it too...
I bring this up only because I'm trying hard to focus on the Big Lies - there seem to be more than enough!
Kerry is melting.
I wish Kerry would try to campaign in Utah, it would be hilarious.
Kerry's "complexity" is that he's nuts.
LOL. son is a cop.
Hubby is a Vietnam Veteran and served his full time over in Nam, and was there when Kerry was protesting. Made me so mad.
Kerry is a liar and a traitor.
GWB is going to be here in Vegas on Thursday, hope to get to see him.
If he hadn't, and if it can be proven that he hadn't, I don't think he could recover from this. Carrying around a good luck hat from an imaginary secret-agent friend would just be too much.
Is there any way to know?
Be loud and proud!!! Good luck.
I had to look to see that this wasn't listed under political humor. This is a joke right?
He is a pathalogical liar! He actually believes his own B.S. He's convinced himself he's some kind of hero and the wort part is he says "look at me, I am a HERO".
It's at the Kerry campaign website. I suppose that qualifies it as a joke, but in a different way. The page is a hoot!
You can double that from this end of the swamp.

>> On a recent afternoon in his Senate office, Kerry was challenging himself with a piece of Spanish classical guitar music. "It's very hard," he said, mid-strum. "I broke one of my nails."
His hand raced up and down the neck of his guitar, his fingers working the frets.
"We've got to go, John," his chief of staff said. He tried another song, picking the opening notes of "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina"<<
Tereza's ambition has been compared to that of Eva Peron...
You utterly cannot make this stuff up...
Just be careful out there, okay?
"That's our slogan," quipped his ad man, Jim Margolis. "John Kerry: He's no weenie."
The usual time limit for automatic downgrading of classification on those kind of things is 30 years, or more. If it was going to be more than 30 years, he probably would have had a 'handler' to report to. Given his superiors' disdain for Kerry, it is hard to imagine his command recommending him for special ops.
The earliest that I have seen Kerry reporting his Christmas in Cambodia, is 1979. That would have been only 11 years. So, if it happened, he violated his security agreement then.
I have seen wannabes use this tactic to try and get over on the VA; they claim an injury in a special ops mission and the records are still sealed/classified. The VA has caught on to this.
So, no, if it really happened, the records are probably still classified. If it really happened, the Feds would have been all over him for reporting it.
Yes, it is a great way to have a 'special ops' mission to thrill folks with who don't really know how that stuff is handled.
If there are any SOG guys on this board, please feel free to correct me.
Good luck, sweetiepiezer. If sKerry shows up in my neigborhood (Louisiana), I'll be out with my sign. However, I doubt that he comes back here, because Louisiana is BUSH COUNTRY!

I went to the Washington Post and found this article on The Onion! Very funny stuff, but unrealistic, claiming Kerry broke a nail, and put on a hat and made a gun with his fingers...
Oh, that wasn't The Onion?
Never mind.
Damn right, they seem to care a lot whether Bush was telling the truth as to his whereabouts during the Vietnam conflict.
Typical liberal double standard.
Oh, I'm not fooling myself about the danger. I know there's a good chance I won't come out alive, and if I do I'll likely be pretty severely injured.

[...] Three of the vets quoted in the book were part of the five-member crew that served on Kerry's own boat: Bill Zaldonis, Steven Hatch and Steve Gardner.
They deny they or their boat were ever in Cambodia. The other two crewmen declined to be interviewed for the book, "Unfit for Command," which raises questions about Kerry's military service. [...]
