I'm interrupting John Kerry's dispatches from the road to tell you about something that will make you angry, but which is important for you to hear.
We knew it was coming: the Bush campaign and several allied right-wing groups are using August to launch a vicious smear attack against John Kerry. They think we're vulnerable this month because while George Bush is still able to raise money for attack ads, Kerry had to stop fundraising at the Democratic convention last week. They're taking this opportunity to go for the jugular.
We need you to join us in this fight today by supporting the Democratic Party.

The worst of the current wave of attacks is coming from a Republican-funded group called "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth." (I'll call them by a more accurate name: Swift Boat Veterans for Bush.) The group is led by a longtime Republican operative and financed by GOP contributors with strong ties to George Bush. Its function in the overall Republican strategy is this: tear down John Kerry since Bush has no record or vision to run on.
The swift boat ad is full of lies. Thirteen men who never served with John Kerry lie about knowing him and viciously attack his record. It is a new low for the Republicans.
Every time they have attacked us like this, it has only made us stronger. When they ran dishonest attack ads (like the unbelievable new one on the air right now), thousands of new supporters flocked to our campaign to give us the resources we need to fight back on the airwaves.
Now that the general election has begun, they're hoping things are different. They're going to be sorely disappointed because we are not alone. The Democratic National Committee is well prepared to take on this fight.
And therefore I'm asking you: everything you did for our campaign, please do now for our Democratic Party. Give the party the resources it needs to fight against these right-wing attacks:

Of course, Cahill doesn't mention that TaRAYza also has questionable ties, specifically with environmental groups. FNC did a great piece about this yesterday, stating that her foundations have given tons of money to environmental groups, three of which publically slammed Bush AFTER receiving money from her. Naturally, the Dems on the report brushed it off.
This is priceless. Anybody who points out obvious falsehoods on the part of the Kerry campaign is 'a Republican operative' and 'financed by the GOP'.

Isn't this coordination? This is an email directly from the Kerry campaign asking it's supporters to send money to the party..so the party can fight these ads.

Democrats attacking Vietnam Veterans. Talk about a flashback from the sixties.
It sounds like the Democrats are in a tough positIon: either defend John Kerry and call combat veterans liars - thereby damaging their 'spin' on the party qualified to handle the nation's security. Or let the charges stand, and risk finding out that Kerry might have lied.
I'm glad W. stayed out of this fray. Civilians attacking political opponents' combat experience risk alienating non-partisans. By and large, folks don't like to see combat vets attacked, no matter what their political idealogy.
That's what you get for making Vietnam the centeral issue of the campaign.

The Swift Boat veterans charges are much more damning than the AWOL fiction in that THESE charges have have eyewitnesses and at least some documentation to back them up. Like the Christmas in Cambodia story Hanoi John boy dreamed up and "seared" into his memory.

the next line from the libs is that it's time to start talking about records & issues ... which it will be, starting with the convention. Until then we should discuss why John Kerry campaign has denied he was ever in Cambodia and why their further explanation has not been forthcoming!

Maybe true Patriots and all veterans are starting to pay some attention to this. I think when the socialists start attacking these veterans, it is going to back fire on them. Only their fellow socialists will pay any attention. Veterans will start to wonder about this guy's claims of being such a hero. Maybe it will turn the tide. However, the Swifties are in for a very rough ride, but I bet they knew that already before they started.

Kerry’s Convention Speech Insulted Guard and Reserve Members
Anyone listening to local talk radio in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, on the Monday after the Democratic National Convention, might have sensed the tone of anger coming from local Vets and Troops of the Guard and Reserve. During one segment of a morning talk show, callers voiced their anger with Kerry’s speech. The callers were angry with a statement that offended both troops, and their supporters alike.
The host had been mentioning part of the speech when the fireworks began. First, one caller who had an association with the National Guard, then others. And none seemed too pleased with the Flip Flop master. As a matter of fact, they were down right ticked off. After speaking with many who have served in the Guard and Reserves, I can assure you that the anger is wide spread.
The statement that offended so many who have served with honor?
“And we will end the backdoor draft of National Guard and Reservists.”
The line is in a portion of Kerry’s speech where he refers to the military. Not the portion in which he refers to his service in Vietnam. Although I must admit that it would be a common guess since he announced that ‘breaking information’ to us every two minutes of his droning 55 minute speech. Instead, it appeared in the portion where he suggested how he would handle current military situations.
When looking at the statement, one must wonder what, in the wide, wide world of French Euro trash, was Kerry thinking? Does part one of the John Johns not realize that the statement belittles many of those who serve and have served our great nation? Our troops of the Reserves and Guard have been much more than a “backdoor draft” in the war on terror. They have been honorable warriors who have helped protect our freedom and liberate millions from tyranny.
Kerry’s intent was obvious. He thought that he could play on the emotions and stress of our troops who have been deployed over the past few years. The fact that Kerry would have that mind set is evidence that his intent was also insulting. Kerry should understand that our troops are as mentally tough as they are brave. They are not the types who sit around trying to figure out what opportunities will get them home in four months.
It is not just the line in his convention speech that has angered Guard and Reserve troops. It has been his whole attitude towards them. Kerry and his surrogates have had nothing good to say about President Bush’s National Guard service. In statements referring to the President’s hitch in the Air Guard, Kerry’s surrogates have gone as far as to compare Vietnam era Guard service with actions some people took to avoid going to Vietnam.
Kerry’s insulting statements about the National Guard show a lack of knowledge in regards to the capabilities of the that branch of the military. For example, we know that many Air Guard pilots went to Vietnam through the Palace Alert program. There is also the issue of F-102 pilots dying state side. It shows how fighter pilots need not go overseas to sacrifice their lives in defense of their nation. Then there is the fact that the National Guard has the front line combat units.
Kerry must also realize that service members need not be in a front line combat position, or even in a war time theater, to be considered brave. The simple fact that they would sign up for a career, in which they know very well that they could be sent into a war at any time, makes them all heroes. There were many soldiers who wanted to go to Vietnam, but were sent to Germany and other stations. That does not make their service less honorable.
Kerry has insulted our National Guard and Reserve troops. He has done this while playing politics and that is telling. What’s even more telling is Kerry’s lack of knowledge in regards to America’s Active, Reserve, and National Guard military missions. Just more evidence of why John Kerry is unfit to be Commander in Chief.

Yesterday A.M. "News Radio" WTAM 1100 read a brief piece about the SwiftVets and used the same line about the men not serving with Kerry. I called the newsroom and read them the riot act,(politely of course). Turns out that it was from the A.P. I told him that the SwiftVets did INDEAD serve with Kerry, they hunted in packs. The newsguy said "is the A.P. lying?" "Sounds to me like all they are doing is parroting Democrat talking points", I said.
Even if there was no agenda on the part of WTAM, there was no attempt on their part to do a little fact checking. Their attitude seems to be "if it was good enough for A.P. that's all that matters.
Hey Mary Beth, this statement of yours is an absolute bald-faced lie, and you know it. Those men did serve with Kerry and they know him well, and you know these facts. You're the liar here along with your wacky, irresponsible, undisciplined candidate. Take your lies and hit the road sweetie.
