First lady Laura Bush is wildly popular with the American people, but not with New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, who called her a GOP "attack dog" this week for speaking out on stem cell research."She's been dragged out to be a Republican attack dog on the most contentious issue, stem cell research, defending her husband's, you know, refusal to use more [stem cell] lines," Dowd told CBS "Early Show" host Hannah Storm while promoting her new book "Bushworld." "I think it's a huge mistake," warned the top Timeswoman. "Laura is this fantastic, nice, Marian-the-librarian-type who was curled up with a cat on her lap reading Dostoevsky" and "they drag Laura on to the campaign trail because she had such high approval ratings."
Of course, Dowd failed to note that the first lady's "attack" on stem cell research amounted to warning that the new science wouldn't do much to cure Alzheimer's.
That's exactly what Mr. Stem Cell Research himself, Ron P. Reagan said last month.
"Alzheimer's is a disease, ironically, that probably won't be amenable to treatment through stem cell therapies," Reagan told MSBC's Chris Matthews.
Make that, "attack dog" Ron Reagan.
Someone should tell that cakehole that if her embryo had been used for stem cell research we would never have heard of her--the only real justification for stem cell research I can think of.
Just when you thought they couldn't get lower... Maureen Dowd raises her ugly puss!
Laura Bush has more class in her little toenail than Maureen Dowd will ever possess. Calling Mrs. Bush an "attack dog" won't help the liberal cause one iota. It will serve as another wakeup call to the conservatives, who happen to adore Laura Bush.
Ron P. Reagan does not deserve the title of "Stem cell research man".
Ron doesn't know jack diddly about stem cell research. If you want someone who has been actively involved in reviewing that research, ask Michael Reagan. He knows his stuff.
It's a sign of how effective Laura is, the pitbull attack monsters of the left are after her.
Dowd know Laura Bush makes sense while TeRayZa is a walking looney toon.
Be afraid, Maureen...be very afraid.
This is coming from dowd, one of the pit bulls of the democrats.
Oh please! Just when you think Maureen Dowd can stoop no lower. . .
Still dreaming of being "taken" by Bill Clinton, no doubt. What a pathetic, frustrated spinster.
Let's face it, folks. Politics is PERSONAL. It is a form of war really. These Demonrats are not good people and will smear everyone for power. Even Laura isn't above getting attacked like this. No mention of Teresa's calling Bush unintelligent and pointing to her head and other nasty comments. This is the way they do things.
Probaby half the dems who will vote for Kerry dread Taraysa as first bag lady.
Where's the C Z-J photo?
Maureen Dowd: Laura Bush, a GOP attack dog
Maureen Dowd: Hillary Clinton, a saviour of humankind, through her brilliance and hard work.
One of these days she's going to slip up and I'm going to catch a Maureen Dowd article that shows political bias. /s
Reminds me of that maxim about politics..when democrats attack, they are campaigning..when republicans campaign..they are attacking..
Wait, didn't Teresa tell me that women shouldn't be afraid to be "opinionated?"
Bill Clinton has "taken" her yet? She's so said she never got to fill Monica's shoes or blue dress.
Let's extend embryo research to include early detection of liberal embryos... Then we can inform the mother, and give her the right to choose.

"Maureen Down is a low-life attack-dog.
And I know dogs like Dowd.
I poop on her."
Hopefully this will backfire on Dowd, by dissing Laura as nothing more than an attack dog, Dowd comes off as the aggressor. And a nasty one at that.
The best word for Dowd, and one that comes immediately to mind, is one that ryhmes with witch, which, I guess, is also appropriate.
I saw Dowd on Booknotes (last weekend, I think). Whatever looks she once had have evaporated. Now she wears her miserable, bitter personality as a permanent feature of her face.
Someone should tell the blowhards, Laura has every interest in the treatment of Alzheimers. He father suffered from it, as did my grandmother.
No one has any right to throw out false hope for the sake of a vote.
But once again, if anyone on the right speaks their beiefs or presents facts we are labeled liars, vicious, dishonorable and dishonest.

I've always said liberals are either 1) Stupid, or 2) Mean. I think Ms. Dowd is both.
Dowd's been using the bourbon for mouthwash again...

"She's everything you weren't, Maureen: sexy... intelligent... great in bed..."
So Dizzy Tizzy is good. Her heiney is good. Laura Bush speaking up is bad??????????????
Laura Bush represents everything Maureen Dowd would like to have been! That's the only reason for her venom! Fancy, Laura Bush is sitting in the White House while Maureen Dowd is confined to a creepy hole in the creepy West 43rd Street desk space that the creepy The New York Times has assigned to her in that creepy area off creepy Broadway and near creepy 8th Avenue where the creeps of the world hangout every day!!!

Hey, Maureen, take another hit while you're at it you sick, psycho hose-beast!
Maureen's just jealous that no man has ever been devoted to her the way Dubya is to Laura. Mrs. Bush has every right to speak out on stem-cell research. Afterall, her father died of Alzheimers disease. If Ronald Reagan can speak out about it, so can she. At least she's never told anyone in the press to "Shove it!"
Must kill her to see those T-Mobile commercials all over TV...
It is "Howdy Dowdy Time"
I caught that interview as well. She looked very sour and sad in her pitiful existance. It appeared that if she tried to smile or show some type of humor that she would explode.

From Oxblog:
IMMUTABLE LAWS OF DOWD1. Ashcroft never deserves credit.
2. Offering constructive solutions to problems, instead of whining endlessly about them, is a sign of weakness.
3. The People Magazine principle: all political phenomena can be explained with reference solely to caricatures of the personalities involved ("Dubya" is stupid; "Poppy" is an aristocrat; Cheney is macho-man; etc.). Any reference to the common good or even to old-fashioned politicking is, like, so passe.
4. It is much better to be cute than coherent.
5. Maureen knows best. Her long years as a columnist (doing basically what your great-aunt Tillie does in the nursing home bull sessions, but getting paid for it) have given her deep insight into foreign relations, politics, welfare, the Constitution, and all other topics. To disagree with Maureen in any way is not only a sign of being wrong, it's a hallmark of pure evil...or at least membership in the NRA, which is pretty much the same thing.
6. It is usually possible and always desirable to name-drop and name-call in the same sentence.
7. The particulars of my consumer-driven, shamefully self-involved life reveal universal truths.
Explanation of the Dowd/Douglas connection: by Miss Marple- 2/11/03
Ms. Dowd was escorted around New York and DC for many months by one Michael Douglas of Hollywood fame and fortune. She got to go to all the best parties, was photographed for the tabloids, and was picking out a gown to wear at the Oscars. Of course, Michael had become interested in her during Clinton's impeachment, when she had written some very anti-Clinton columns. After a few weeks of the Michael treatment, she began to write anti-Starr, ant-Newt columns, ignoring Clinton.
Then Clinton was acquitted by the Senate. In an amazing coincidence, Michael Douglas dropped Ms. Dowd like a hot potato, and instead picked up a hot tomato, Catherin Zeta-Jones, who subsequently bore him a son and they were married.
Ms. Dowd cannot get over her tragic loss. Her columns are increasingly anti-Bush, in the hope of impressing her lost love, Michael.
In addition, we think she has a secret crush on the President and is trying to get him to pay attention to her. Ha!

And a good one, too!
I guess global warming isn't selling so well any more. Now they've grabbed onto another science they can distort for political gain because the public hasn't a clue.
Maureen Dowd is a skank. She can't write woth a whit and her one claim to fame is she boinked Michael Douglas, who is a zero, anyway (but a pretty good actor: I will give him that).
Laura Bush is effective. Enough said.
If Laura Bush is an "attack dog" for speaking on an issue, I hate to think of what Tereza is....or worse, Hillery. If she is not to give her thoughts on anything, why was she even interviewed? Stupid liberals. So stupid, so transparent, so frothing with hate and anger. How can something be so obvious to some, while others are so blind?
If you want to really boil

Why did the president... and his people send Mrs. Bush, this nice lady, this first lady who everybody likes, out on what looks like a suicide bombing mission to go out and say theres really no hope for stem cell research?
It gets worse from there.
Does anyone pay attention to that loudmouth?
Not an attractive quality at all. Even in females who don't drink.
Bitch
Being effective is why she is being attacked. And she is right, it's unfair and exploitive to tell people that are suffering with terrible diseases that the cure is around the corner if only embryonic stem cell research was financed by the government.
