According to Newsweek's assistant managing editor Evan Thomas, "There's one other base here, the media. Let's talk a little media bias here. The media, I think, wants Kerry to win and I think they're going to portray Kerry and Edwards . . . as being young and dynamic and optimistic and there's going to be this glow about them . . ." (Inside Washington television show, July 10).
Thomas' prediction is amply supported by the (non)coverage which the Denver dailies, like most of the rest of the media, have given to this week's meltdown of the Kerry campaign.
As reported in The Congressional Record, on March 27, 1986, Sen. John Kerry spoke on the Senate floor against U.S. support for the anti-communist contras in Nicaragua:
"I remember Christmas of 1968 sitting on a gunboat in Cambodia. I remember what it was like to be shot at by Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge and Cambodians, and have the president of the United States telling the American people that I was not there; the troops were not in Cambodia. I have that memory which is seared - seared - in me . . ."
Likewise, Kerry wrote an Oct. 14, 1979, letter to the editor of the Boston Herald: "I remember spending Christmas Eve of 1968 five miles across the Cambodian border being shot at by our South Vietnamese allies who were drunk and celebrating Christmas. The absurdity of almost being killed by our own allies in a country in which President Nixon claimed there were no American troops was very real."
He repeated the Cambodia Christmas story in Senate committee hearings in June 1992 and September 1997.
Actually, in December 1968, the president of the United States was Lyndon Johnson, not Richard Nixon. Nixon's statement that there were "no American combat troops in Cambodia" was made in November 1971.
All available evidence indicates that Kerry was lying about Christmas in Cambodia.
As detailed in the new book Unfit for Command, every officer in Kerry's chain of command denies that Kerry's Swift boat came within 50 miles of Cambodia. Three crewmen on Kerry's boat have denied that they ever went into Cambodia. (The other two refused to be interviewed.)
In Douglas Brinkley's Kerry biography, Tour of Duty, Kerry told Brinkley that he spent Christmas Eve 1968 "near the Cambodian border" in the town of Sa Dec. Sa Dec is in the center of South Vietnam and 50 miles from Cambodia.
The New York Daily News, the New York Post, The Washington Times, and the London Telegraph all covered the Christmas in Cambodia story early this week, but Colorado's Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post have failed to do so.
In Colorado, the Cambodia fraud has been covered in depth on the Hugh Hewitt Show, a national radio program broadcast on KNUS-AM (710) from 4-7 p.m. weekdays. Hewitt interviewed Steve Gardner, who served on Kerry's boat for two of the four months that Kerry spent in Vietnam, from November 1968 through January 1969. Gardner maintains that the boat never came within 50 miles of Cambodia. You can read the interview at: hughhewitt.com/index.htm# postid766.
The Denver dailies have covered the story exclusively by attacking Swift Boat Veterans for Truth through:
An Associated Press article in both papers reporting that John McCain denounced the attacks on Kerry (without providing any evidence that the attacks are factually wrong);
News columnist Mike Litt- win criticizing Bush for not criticizing the Swift boat veterans (Aug. 7);
The Post's Jim Spencer defending Kerry's Purple Hearts (a July 30 column with more substance than other Kerry defenses); and
An AP article pointing out that John Corsi, the co-author of Unfit for Command has made disparaging remarks about Islam and Catholicism (News, Aug. 11).
Early in the week, the Kerry campaign denied that Kerry had ever claimed to have spent Christmas in Cambodia. Confronted with evidence, the campaign refused to answer questions. On Wednesday, the campaign abandoned the Christmas-in-Cambodia story that had been "seared" in Kerry's memory. The campaign told Fox News that Kerry was in Cambodia sometime, but would not specify when. The campaign told ABC News that Kerry was in the Mekong Delta, which "consists of the border between Cambodia and Vietnam, so on Christmas Eve in 1968, he was in fact on patrol."
To the contrary, the Mekong River flows from Cambodia into Vietnam and does not border the two countries; the Mekong Delta is adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, and is nowhere near Cambodia.
The News ignored the story of Kerry retracting three decades of Christmas-in-Cambodia tales. The Post also ignored the story, and instead ran the attack on John Corsi which had appeared the day before in the News.
It is as if the media had covered the Bush National Guard story only by impugning Bush's critics, while barely acknowledging the substance of the charges. Evan Thomas was right.

this is a good article & more needs to be spread - Kerry camapaign took a major body blow this week and is imploding from within. The ultimate damage from this revelation, that Kerry is the ultimate in fraud and phoniness having concocted this 30 year old tale, will remain forthcoming in the days and weeks to come. The media and DNC are proceeding along the Michael Moore mantra that Americans are "among the stupidest people on the planet" and they're banking on the hope that their Kerry supporters are indeed so dumb they either don't learn or will eagerly ignore such revelations so damaging to this man's delusional psyche.
Bzzzzz..Fly by bumblebee style Bump Bzzzzzzzz....
And bump for good measure.
Do they think the American public is that stupid? We have maps and the ability to read them.
We are winning, never say die while there is a shot in the locker.
Let us all give to the SBVfT until it hurts.

I don't think they are going to able to ignore this much longer. It is taking on a life of its own.
Kerry must be telling the truth. If not, where else could that molded old black beret he carries in a secret compartment in his briefcase have come from? Do you think a pizza delivery girl gave it to him?

Here is one if you haven't seen it that will help the Swft Boat Vets Out. Posted a few hours ago. Help get this around, I sent it to the SBV and Drudge.

That does. I am going to post the Kopel article on my university web page along with a link to Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and O'Neill's book. Of course, the university will go insane (its OK to campaign for Kerry, but one is a fascist if you mention anything negative about Kerry).
Actually, the web page is about the "Kerry economy." Like his flip-flops on Vietnam and Cambodia, his economic proposals seem vauge and actually change over time. The long and short of it is that he 1) wants to have more socials programs and will achieve it by 2) making the already insanely progressive tax system even MORE progressive and cutting the military. His tax cuts on corporations (to keep labor unions jobs in the U.S.) seemingly puts even more burden --- on the people that already pay most of the taxes in economy! Bottom line - recession. Add high oil prices - depresssion.
Say, the Islamic extremists don't even have to bother us anymore. Kerry will destroy us using our own Democratic system!
Media biased toward the destruction of America.
BTTT - read later
Surely there is SOME journalist who covets an Edward R. Murrow award, a George Foster Peabody trophy, a National Investigative Reporters & Editors plaque as well as fame and fortune not seen since the days of Watergate? Sink your teeth into this and do a little digging. It's all there barely below the surface, you twits!
They have good reason to think that, it appears to be true, for the most part. Very few people question what the media feeds them.
I'll be surprized, but elated, if the media also takes a huge body blow from these revelations, because the stories have been out there for at least months, untold (I think by wilful witholding).
The outrageous difference in the coverage of the story of Kerry's Viet Nam fraud and Bush's Air Guard service should be apparent to anyone - but, sadly, most sheeple aren't paying attention.
Bush should condemn the swift boat ad, but Kerry was never asked to condemn the dimocrap 527 ads against Bush - sounds about right.
One small bump for the Swift Boat Vets for Truth -- one giant kick at the turncoat media.
Viet Nam is primarily a Buddhist country. Due to French influence, there is a Christian element to the population, currently estimated at 9%. It is unlikely to have been much different in the late sixties. It is also unlikely that a relatively small Christian population would carry on in the manner Kerry described. It would be like having a wild St. Patrick's Day celebration in an Italian/Jewish neighborhood. Not impossible, but very unlikely, like most of Kerry's tales.
John Kerry Apocalypse Now" on Oct 14, 1979 in the Boston Herald.
The Kerry Campaign has now admitted that this was a fabrication. This is far from a slip of the tongue this is a well thought out written attack on a President and country that not only impugned them, but the Ex-Government of South Vietnam. This soon became the basic prejudice of the history of the Vietnam War. The damage by this statement and further statements shamed an entire generation of men who gave their heroic service to their country and turned it to humiliation.
John Kerry came back from the war a decorated hero and soon parlayed that into the most decorated witness of war crime atrocities committed by the United States and South Vietnam. Nobody would question his truthfulness because he had chest full of medals and had no motivation to lie. Anybody who questioned him was quickly painted as a war criminal and a tool of the military. He was quickly annointed as the only moral person in an immoral war and this is exactly why this lie is so sickening.
We have now found and John Kerry has admitted that he was never in Cambodia on Christmas Eve or any other time. He never violated Cambodias sovereignty and neither did the South Vietnamese Army. Forget that President Nixon was not in office in 1968, but he never ordered any American Troops into Cambodia. President Nixon was telling the truth and John Kerry, decorated war hero was lying. President Nixon had to surrender to the North Vietnamese in shame and went to his grave a war criminal because of these lies. President Nixon we find four decades later, was telling the Truth.
His testimony and this story was the foundation of the Vietnam scar on Americas military. The stories of torturing prisoners and villagers became the visual of Viet Nam. The indiscriminate incursions into Cambodia and Laos was common knowledge. Because of these stories the soldiers came back from Nam to be spit on by American public. Now we find out these stories were all the fantasy of a young John Kerry who managed to keep his fabrications in the Americas consciousness. Vietnam became the club that hammered our military, over and over again. All of this was built off of the Cambodia lie and his false testimony in Congress.
John Kerry was still telling these lies as of last year when he showed off a hat he brought back from this Cambodia incursion. This he claimed was his lucky hat, given to him by a CIA agent?? What kind of dementia is this man suffering from? Did he actually believe any of his lies or did he enjoy being Mr Macho who steered his boat into another country during combat? Did he enjoy being Blood and Guts Kerry or was there something more sinister??
Because of this lie both Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon became the pyrias of American politics. Both went to their graves as accused war criminals, violating the sovereignty of innocent countries. As we find out that they were the innocent victims of a smear campaign led by John Kerry. John Kerry painted himself as the only moral person in an immoral war. As we find out the military was indeed fighting this war morally and the only immoral person in this story was John Kerry. Because of this lie two Presidents were made war criminals and an entire generation of soldiers were spit upon. What can John Kerry offer to repair his damage he has done to America?? The very least he can do is finally come clean, apologize for his atrocious lies and resign from the race!
Pray for W and Our Troops
Rush made this statement on Thursday:
"I was told last night that there is a crack in the solidarity of the elite media regarding Kerry and his campaign and the swift vet attack on Kerry.
"And I was told specifically that it has to do with the statements the Kerry campaign is making about some of the charges the swift vets are making and how the response from the Kerry campaign is unsatisfying and is leading some in the elite media to question whether or not there may be something there.
"Well, lo and behold, from the UK Telegraph today. I have a copy of the story firmly held in my formerly nicotine-stained fingers. Headline: Kerry Invented Christmas in Cambodia Claim."
The crack is becoming ever wider. I'm confident this is true, or Lanny Davis and Carville would not have treated O'Neill so shamelessly on Crossfire.
In any case, Cambodia, Mekong Delta, whatever... Mr. Kerry must've been AWOL from his post.
Calling the Christmas in Cambodia story that was seared, seared into Kerry's mind a "slip of the tongue" after having been repeated for 35 years reminds me of one of my favorite jokes:
Joe bumps into his buddy, Jim, and Joe seems a bit depressed.
"Why so glum, Joe?"
"Well, this morning I was buying train tickets and I was distracted by the fact that the woman behind the counter had an enormous chest. I got a little tongue-tied when I spoke, and inadvertently asked for 'Two Pickets to Tittsburgh,' instead of 'Two tickets to Pittsburgh.'"
"Ah, Joe, it's no big deal, just a little slip of the tongue. Same type of thing happened to me this morning. I was trying to say to my wife, 'Darling, please pass the cornflakes,' but I made a little slip of the tongue, and somehow it came out, "You stupid b!tch, you ruined my life.'"
I am usually optimistic-
the good news is cbs, nbc, abc nytimes, latimes etc can take kerry down 15 pts anytime they like.
He is surrounded by press people- many of whom wish to win a pulitizer- and can end this charade with a few pointed questions. If someone told me that the qerry campaign would let a week go by without answering these charges i would have not believed you.
Then again, i never thought hitlery could get thru her campaign without answering any questions either.
This should be considered a major factor in why some Nam vets committed suicide after returning home. How many? I fear to guess. I know one personally.
This should be factored in as to why many Nam vets still sleep on the streets and under bridges, unable to cope in a nation transformed by Kerry types and the socialist press into the most unforgiving country in the world when it came to the treatment of its own returning freedom fighters.
Kerry should have stopped with his story of riding his bicycle across Checkpoint Charlie as a kid. It was both more believable and less checkable. But once they get started they don't know when to quit.
When the Clintons give the word Kerry will be a piece of bloody meat in a river full of pirahnas.
With your permission, I'd like to put this one on my profile page. It's too good to pass on. ;^)
Was Kerry on drugs? Has anyone in the media asked him? Is this why he can't get his story straight -- because HE doesn't know what he did?
Yeah I thought that little detail was a bit wild too - although I'm sure there are Christians in Vietnam, how many of them are there that go out shooting guns to celebrate Christmas?
We need to be smart about this. The voters we need to concentrate on are those in the battleground states. It is a complete waste of time to change the minds of committed idiots in Mass, NY, and CA, for example.
Perhaps a thread should be started with clear identification of battleground states - and then we could target voters in those states which can be swayed by dissemination of the truths that the media "forgot" to mention.
Thanks for the laugh!
From the article:
Likewise, Kerry wrote an Oct. 14, 1979, letter to the editor of the Boston Herald: "I remember spending Christmas Eve of 1968 five miles across the Cambodian border being shot at by our South Vietnamese allies who were drunk and celebrating Christmas. The absurdity of almost being killed by our own allies in a country in which President Nixon claimed there were no American troops was very real."
John Kerry wrote his Review for "Apocalypse Now" on Oct 14, 1979 in the Boston Herald.
Here is the article in JPG format.
Thank you, thank you FreeRepublic.com !
In the BOTTOM JPG, check out the TOP RIGHT paragraph regarding Cambodia .....
"On more than one occasion, I, like Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now, took my patrol boat into Cambodia. In fact, I remember spending Christmas Eve of 1968 five miles across the Cambodian border being shot at by our South Vietnamese allies who were drunk and celebrating Christmas. The absurdity of almost being killed by our own allies in a country in which President Nixon claimed there were no American troops was very real."
There is the lie. He NEVER WAS in Cambodia. The Swiftboat book Unfit for Command addresses that issue. And Nixon, who had WON election in November 1968, did not take office until January, 1969.
John Kerry is a LIAR! I think mostly Bush haters would vote for Kerry. I say George Bush in a landslide win November 2nd !
John Kerry's "Apocalypse Now" fantasy in Cambodia.
Great scan of 1979 newpaper article.
Good, useful article. Straight to the point.
Great. We would need volunteers. But I think this is one method and strategery that can make a significant difference in getting the word out to swing voters, who can collectively sway their state to the right column.
Want maps? Look here:
http://www.nexus.net/~911gfx/mapnc4806.html
and
http://www.nexus.net/~911gfx/mapnc4815.html
These maps are so detailed you can even figure out the grid information to determine exactly where Kerry's boat was, if its listed in his after-action or injury reports.
For example, the injury report states that his third Purple Heart was earned at WQ010780 on the Song Hap River. The best detailed map for that location is here:
http://www.nexus.net/~911gfx/mapnc4815.html
Look for the up-down blue lines marked WQ0 (which is actually the same as the thick black line marked (105 00)) and WQ1 and the left-right lines marked 7 and 8. The location in question is about 1/10th of the way from WQ0 to WQ1 and 8/10ths of the way from 7 to 8. This appears to be near where the Rach Dong Cung river flows into the Song Bai Hap.
Now, I believe that each blue rectangle is 1 kilometer by 1 kilometer (1,000 meters by 1,000 meters). It's only one box from WQ010780 to the mouth of the Song Hap River. This explains why the Swift Boat Veterans say Kerry's lying when he said there was enemy fire for the next 5,000 meters --- the river ran another 1,500 meters tops.
Note that the after-action report lists the mine explosion as occurring at VQ995770, which is even further down river (closer to the bay) than WQ010780. WQ010780 is near the location of a "secondary explosion" listed in the after-action report, WQ010782.
Hillary? The only smart one in the bunch if she is hoping to get on the big ticket. Narry a debate, narry an inquisitive press asking embarrasing questions. Just going about the business of building her nest unobserved -- like any wise bird would do. Problem with her though, is she's just a barn swallow and not an Eagle.
I should have checked my links better. The most detailed Song Hap map is here:
