Jihadists in Jersey

By Joel Mowbray
The New York Sun | March 30, 2004

Congressman Bill Pascrell, D-8, NJ  with Menendez and Corzine

Senator Corzine at the Puerto Rican parade in Hoboken.

Rep. Bill Pascrell and Senator Corzine, both Democrats of New Jersey, addressed an annual "community brunch" last month co-sponsored by 11 Muslim organizations, including a mosque that has allegedly raised funds for Hamas and another New Jersey mosque whose former imam was convicted last year for smuggling more than a half-million dollars to an Egyptian group that the American Treasury Department subsequently designated a terrorist organization. Mr. Pascrell has also received campaign contributions and fund-raising support from the president of the event's primary sponsor.

The American Muslim Union's Annual Community Brunch on February 21, 2004, was co-sponsored by 10 other organizations, including the New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the Islamic Center of Passaic County of Paterson, the El Tawheed Islamic Center of Jersey City, and the Dar-ul-Islah Islamic Center of Teaneck.

The co-sponsor with the most apparent ties to radical Islam, including allegedly raising funds for Hamas and hosting as a speaker last year an alleged Hamas figure, is the Islamic Center of Passaic County. The American Muslim Union, though, appears to have close ties to the Islamic Center of Passaic County, as five of its current and former directors and executives have held or still hold leadership positions at the Islamic Center.

The American Muslim Union insists it is a mainstream group, and Mr. Pascrell says he doesn't regret the appearance. Neither Mr. Pascrell nor Mr. Corzine generally vote outside of the Democratic mainstream on Israel or terror-related matters.

The co-founder of and former imam at the Islamic Center of Passaic County, which was founded in 1989, was Mohamed El-Mezain. He worked with the ICPC to raise funds for Hamas in the mid-1990s, according to an FBI memo drafted in November 2001 by the FBI's assistant director of counterterrorism, Dale Watson.  Mr. El-Mezain, who is no longer affiliated with the Islamic Center and could not be reached for comment, was never charged or arrested.

The FBI document, which provided the basis for the U.S. government to shut down the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development in December 2001, cited a "reliable" source in noting that "during a speech at the Islamic Center of Passaic County (ICPC) in November, 1994, Mohammad El-Mezain, the HLFRD's current Director of Endowments and former Chairman of the HLFRD Board, admitted that some of the money collected by the ICPC and the HLFRD goes to HAMAS or HAMAS activities in Israel. El-Mezain also defended HAMAS and the activities carried out by HAMAS."

The American Muslim Union's president, Mohamed Younes, who is a member of Islamic Center of Passaic County's board of trustees, told The New York Sun that people at the mosque "did not know everywhere their money was going, and they would not have meant to give to Hamas."

Mr. El-Mezain and the Islamic Center of Passaic County appear to have other ties to Hamas.

Mr. El-Mezain attended a conference in Los Angeles in the mid-1990s where more than $200,000 was raised for Hamas and the keynote speaker urged participants to "finish off the Israelis," according to the FBI memo.

The FBI memo cites a "reliable" source who says that at a Muslim Arab Youth Association conference held from December 30, 1994, to January 2, 1995, the keynote speaker was Sheikh Muhammed Siyam, who was introduced as "head of operations of Al Jihad Al Islamia in Gaza, the Hamas military wing." According to the FBI in formant, Mr. Siyam told the crowd, "Finish off the Israelis. Kill them all! Exterminate them!"

"Following Siyam's speech," the memo continues, "El-Mezain exhorted the crowd to contribute money. It was subsequently announced that $207,000 was raised for 'the cause."' The FBI informant also said that at the conference, Mr. El-Mezain announced that he had raised $1.8 million inside the United States for Hamas in 1994 alone.

Magdy Mahmoud, who is the cofounder and president of CAIR-NJ, one of the co-sponsors of the American Muslim Union brunch, was on the executive board of the Muslim Arab Youth Association and directed its Chapters Committee from 1993 to 1998, during which time the 1994-95 conference occurred. According to his biography on CAIR-NJ's Web site, Mr. Mahmoud later served as the chairman of the Chapters Committee for the American Muslim Union from 1999 to 2001. Mr. Mahmoud did not return a call requesting comment.

According to the Islamic Center of Passaic County's Web site, the mosque hosted a lecture in February 2003 by Abdelhaleem Ashqar, who was identified in the FBI memo as a prominent Hamas figure.

Another co-sponsor of last month's event attended by Messrs. Corzine and Pascrell, Dar-ul-Islah Islamic Center, was co-founded by Waheed Khalid, who has defended Hamas activities. When asked by the Bergen Record newspaper in 1998 about Hamas' terrorist activities, Mr. Khalid, who until late last year served as the mosque's president, responded, "They are trying to get the occupiers out of their home."

Mr. Pascrell said that allegations that any of the co-sponsors of the event are radical Islamists or tied to terrorist organizations are "pure crap." Asked if he felt that by appearing at the event he was lending legitimacy to radical organizations, he added, "I'm not going to deal in rumors; the rest is crap. I know these men as fine family men."

A spokesman for Mr. Pascrell later clarified that the congressman wasn't referring to Alaa Al-Sadawi, the former imam at El Tawheed Islamic Center, who was convicted last July of attempting to smuggle more than $650,000 in cash to the Global Relief Fund in Egypt in April 2002.The U.S. Treasury Department designated that fund as terrorist in October 2002.

The spokesman for the congressman said, "That guy should be in jail, but you can't hold the members of the mosque responsible for his actions."

Despite multiple calls from the Sun, Mr. Corzine's office offered no comment.

The American Muslim Union's president, Mr. Younes, stressed that his organization is both moderate and mainstream, adding that it has worked to "bring people together of all faiths."

According to both men, Mr. Younes and Rep. Pascrell have been friends for almost a decade. Mr. Younes and his wife have contributed more than $4,300 to Mr. Pascrell's campaigns since 1998, according to federal election records. Mr. Younes also said that he has hosted "several" fund-raisers for the congressman, including one that netted over $20,000 in October 2000. Messrs. Younes and Pascrell said they can't remember how many fund-raisers Mr. Younes has hosted, or when the most recent one was held.

Mr. Pascrell said he had no regrets about addressing the American Muslim Union- sponsored brunch last month, noting that he has never been given any warning about the group by authorities. "I'm on the Homeland Security Committee and I've never been briefed that they are something I should stay away from," he explained.

Some information for this report was provided by the Investigative Project, a group headed by counterterrorism expert Steven Emerson.

You know, for about the 100th time it occurs to me that if the mainstream press reported on events like this honestly, these guys and others like them would never have a chance of holding elected office and would likely be brought up on charges.

Much as I dislike DNC elected officials, the real domestic enemy is the mainstream media.

These guys will accept money from anyone. And Muslims can get their hands on plenty of money. The political sell-out has begun.

Islam uses its enemies' habits AGAINST them--our politicians are money-grubbers, so Muslims will throw money to them, guarranteeing them the funds for slick media campaigns in return for a few "favors" for the Islamists.

It's the American way. Our elected officials are going to sell us out to the new Nazis for a few bucks.

I'm disappointed in Bill Pascrell, whom I've known for 20 years. Bill and I share a zealous devotion to Fordham University football and basketball adventures.I've always found him to be intelligent and thoughtful. He always pointed with pride that it was his effort as Mayor of Paterson to make Joe Clark a principal, resulting in Clark becoming a national figure for discipline and basics in education. I am sorry to see this story.

This explains quite clearly why Corzine has been demanding that the Patriot Act be diminished.

I am still waiting for his response to my request that he explain his position in WRITING.

But wait, Mr. Younes, would you please explain the meaning of Jihad? You know, moderate and peace loving Jihad, the thing that Jordanian Islamics have just declared against Iraq and all those who support their new government?

I'm a little confused by something. Maybe you are someone else can lend a hand. Aren't organizations such as Islamic Center of Passaic County, the Dar-ul-Islah Islamic Center, or the mosques and Islamic Centers considered nonprofits?

So then, they would be listed as a charity with the Office of Attorney General right? My church is there. So are others.

Well, when I go here: http://www.state.nj.us/lps/ca/charfrm.htm

I just can't seem to find the Islamic Centers or Mosques listed.

Any idea why? Or maybe I'm just not using that search engine correctly. Or maybe I just don't understand.

::coughs::

The Jesuits, both in H.S. and at Fordham, taught me to think for myself. Ata FB game with Columbia some years back I screamed at our QB that he was throwing too high for our very short WR. A columbia fan upbraided me for using short. I told him in a loud voice that "I don't have to be politically correct. I have a Jesuit Education. I was taught how to think not what to think." Fr Joseph O'Hare, the Univ Pres, reached over to me and shook my hand.

Anecdotes aside,Liberals are evrywhere on almost every campus. They are not going to intrude on my reminiscneces about the Rams, the bars on Webster Ave., or the truly excellent education which I received.

Not only did I know about the American Muslim Union luncheon and the Teaneck Mosque, Mayor Steve Lonegan consulted with me prior to the luncheon. After learning the results of my investigation of the AMU, he declined the invitation. This was the genesis of my magazine's article Pascrell and Corzine Shared Lunch with Israel-Bashing American Muslim Union; Is the UJA Next?

DIdn't get up to Homecoming. Took in the wineries on the North Fork that weekend. Bill hasn't been up according to a friend, but there's a couple of hoop games I want to see. If I run into him I'll Q him re your post. BTW the Rams did poorly this season in football. 5 and 6, but with a new coach and rookie QB. Hoops looks better down the road, not this year.

I didn't know they made wine over there. I'll check it out someday.

I still can't believe he could look you straight into the eye and say that he was the mayor at that time. I'll have to tell frank grave's kids the next time I see them...I don't think they'll be too happy.

I wonder if Billy suffers from a mild form of delusions of grandeur?

Have the Rams gotten their football team out of the Patriot League yet? I haven't looked at the alumni magazine lately.

Coleus, there are some decent wineries in the North Fork. Try the Cabernet Franc from Pindar or Lenz. Its nowhere near as good as what is currently produced in California, Washington, or Oregon, but is still pretty good nonetheless.

There are a few wineries in Sussex County, and two down around Egg Harbor in the Pinelands, but I have never had any Jersey wine with the exception of some Dago red my grandparents neighbors in North Bergen made all those years ago. :-)

He always pointed with pride that it was his effort as Mayor of Paterson to make Joe Clark a principal, resulting in Clark becoming a national figure for discipline and basics in education. I am sorry to see this story. >>

Then he lied to you, Sen. Frank Graves was Mayor when Joe Clark was Principal.  You know how Paterson Mayor Pascrell became a Congressman?  He walked into a room filled with black leaders of Paterson and said, "You want your first black mayor" meaning councilman Martin Barnes who ran for mayor in the past, "then make sure I get elected to congress", Congressman Bill Martini won every town in his district except for the very populated democrat town of Paterson which pushed Pascrell over the edge.

Published on March 14, 1989, Press of Atlantic City, The (NJ) NEWS BRIEFS, 400 students walk out, back Clark, PATERSON - About 400 Eastside High School students walked out of their building Monday and marched downtown to the Board of Education office in an apparent show of support for suspended school principal Joe Clark. The students left the school building around 9:30 a.m. and eventually took control of a meeting room in the Board of Education building, said Paterson Mayor Frank Graves. The students were escorted back to school by police about and hour later.

Published on July 9, 1989, Press of Atlantic City, The (NJ) JOE CLARK TO GIVE UP BAT AND BULLHORN
Principal Joe Clark said Saturday that his steel-fisted reign over the inner-city high school he ran for eight years apparently is over, thanks to a City Council of "transvestites" and "vermin. "Clark, who was released Saturday from Newark Beth Israel Medical Center following heart surgery six weeks ago, said his biggest accomplishment was showing that "black and Hispanic students in the inner city can behave." "Educating them is another story," he said.

In 1990, his work for a better Paterson culminated in his election as Mayor. He became Mayor in 1991, The Movie "Lean on Me" was already OUT by the time Pascrell was elected Mayor

Take a look at this movie, click the picture.

I would stay FAR away from Fordham

Lavender Law 2003 at Fordham University click link

-  Pro-abortion politicians serving as college officials and faculty, including Carol Moseley Braun teaching management at DePaul University, Geraldine Ferraro on the Fordham University law school Board of Visitors and teaching public policy at Georgetown University, and Leon Panetta teaching political science and on the Board of Trustees and law school Board of Visitors at Santa Clara University.

WOMEN'S ORDINATION ADVOCATE AT GONZAGA

On March 25, a vocal advocate for women's ordination delivered the annual Flannery Lecture at Gonzaga University (WA), sponsored by the Religious Studies Department.  Sr. Elizabeth Johnson, CSJ, is a theology professor at Fordham University (NY).

In 1996, as president of the Catholic Theological Society of America, Johnson convened a commission to "study" the issue of women's ordination following Pope John Paul II's declaration that the all-male priesthood could not be changed.  The commission's final report, in the words of Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver, "raise[d] questions about the authority of this teaching.  ...For members of the CTSA to revisit this teaching at such a late date, when so many other urgent issues face the Church, is more than just disappointing.  It will not solve the vocations problem.  It creates unnecessary and belated confusion.  And it raises questions about the CTSA's continuing usefulness for the life of the Church."

In a 1996 article in Commonweal, Johnson rebutted the Holy Father's arguments against women's ordination, claiming "Jesus never ordained anyone" and the sacrament of holy orders is equivalent to other Church
traditions that have changed over time.

This stuff just never ends. I go to law school at Fordham University (A Jesuit school) and lately a petition has been going around campus. Some gay pride group on campus, whose name I haven't paused to learn, is considering suing Rumsfeld for upholding the law that forces all law schools to accept military recruiters on their campuses. The group claims that the military's policy against open homosexuality violates the University's anti-discrimination policy.

Lesbian judge makes history

The first openly lesbian federal judge, Deborah Batts was confirmed to a Manhattan bench in 1994. A graduate of Radcliffe and Harvard Law School, Batts earned her credentials through hard work. A native Philadelphian, Batts clerked for a federal judge before joining Cravath, Swaine & Moore, where she worked as a litigator for six years. Next, she served as an assistant U.S. attorney in New York for five years before accepting a teaching post at Fordham University in 1994, where she taught property and family law.

For example, this summer Fordham University in New York allowed Hollywood filmmakers and actor Liam Neeson on campus to shoot part of a movie that whitewashes the discredited Kinsey--a homo/bisexual who advocated sexual anarchy, falsified the sex data he collected, and did "child sex studies" by having a team of child molesters rape and sodomize as many as 2,035 children and babies (see Dr. Judith Reisman's Kinsey: Crimes & Consequences ).

It's no wonder that on October 17-19, 2003, Fordham's Law School hosted "Lavender Law," a national meeting of the National Lesbian and Gay Law association and the National Lesbian and Gay Law Foundation, to discuss sodomy laws, homosexual "marriage," homosexual "rights" in academia, etc. Scheduled speakers included Fordham Law School assistant dean Tom Schoenherr and Fordham law professor Sonia Katyal.
