Ted Peck was on the David Gold show on KSFO just now and stated that Alston was on Kerry's boat until Kerry left. Someone should check with Peck.

It is no at all unusual for a minister in the South, especially a black minister, to pastor a church too small to provide for his full support and therefore they often have a day job as well.
I believe the comment was made by Steven Gardner but Gardner is white, I don't know why he referred to Kerry's "lily white ass" but then it is not that unusual for black men to refer to someone's "black ass". I have seen Gardner in the Swift Vets for Truth video and he is definitely white.
