I might be nuts . . . But I've gotta hope that when reason returns to gov't, the NEA and other leftist organizations that have been artificially propped up by taxpayer money for the last 40 years, will disappear! God, I hope so.

I tend to place Harman in the Feinstein wing of the California Democratic Party, as opposed to the Boxer wing.
That constitutes a very, very slight compliment on my part.
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.
With the passage of income tax, Congress was given the power to collect money for any purpose whatsoever. This resulted in the rise of special interest groups. As long as the possibility exists that these leftists can get federal money for their Marxist enterprises, they will go to any length to find a way to get it.
Despite the fact that they are the focus of evil in the modern world, the Democrats are no dummies. They know when to avoid a fight. They are all about PR, and play that game very well. Meanwhile the GOP had a goldmine PR issue in Miguel Estrada's fillibuster and choked, giving up a potential +10% gain in Hispanic votes in the process.
