HOUSTON--In 1971, I debated John Kerry, then a national spokesman for the Vietnam Veterans Against the War, for 90 minutes on "The Dick Cavett Show." The key issue in that debate was Mr. Kerry's claim that American troops were committing war crimes in Vietnam "on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command." Now, as Sen. Kerry emerges as the presumptive Democratic nominee for the presidency, I've chosen to re-enter the fray.

Like John Kerry, I served in Vietnam as a Swift Boat commander. Ironically, John Kerry and I served much of our time, a full 12 months in my case and a controversial four months in his, commanding the exact same six-man boat, PCF-94, which I took over after he requested early departure. Despite our shared experience, I still believe what I believed 33 years ago--that John Kerry slandered America's military by inventing or repeating grossly exaggerated claims of atrocities and war crimes in order to advance his own political career as an antiwar activist. His misrepresentations played a significant role in creating the negative and false image of Vietnam vets that has persisted for over three decades.

Given recent events, it would be nice to see the WSJ republish this, or allow O'Neill to 'revise and extend.'

Kerry, by his own account, violated the UCMJ, the Geneva Conventions and the U.S. Code while serving as a Navy officer, and he further stands in violation of Article three, Section three of the U.S. Constitution.

Upon entering the Navy in 1966, John Kerry signed a six-year contract (plus a six-month extension during wartime) and an Officer Candidate contract for five years of active duty and active Naval Reserve. This indicates that Kerry was clearly a commissioned officer at the time of his 1970 meeting with NVA Communists in Paris -- in direct violation of the UCMJ's Article 104 part 904, and U.S. Code 18 U.S.C. 953. That meeting, and Kerry's subsequent coddling of Communists while leading mass protests against our military in the year that followed, also place him in direct violation of our Constitution's Article three, Section three, which defines treason as "giving aid and comfort" to the enemy in time of warfare. (As General Vo Nguyen Giap is his witness....)

Thus, we refer our readers to the Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment, Section 3, which states, "No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President ... having previously taken an oath ... to support the Constitution of the United States, [who has] engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof."

It is for this reason -- for his record of giving aid and comfort to the enemy while a member of the U.S. Armed Forces in violation of his oath -- that we insist John Kerry resign his seat in the U.S. Senate. He has dishonored his family, dishonored his state and dishonored our nation. He is not fit for public office at any level of government, much less, the highest office in the land. John Kerry should resign

That's what scares most people about John Kerry. His lack of loyalty to his fellows, his willingness to lie to advance himself, and his utter disregard for the truth.

Here's some pertinent kerry history!!!!

Below is excerpted statements to Congress, 22 April, 1971 by Lt. John F. Kerry USNR(Inactive Reserve Status).

"Mr. KERRY. My feeling, Senator, is undoubtedly this Congress, and I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but I do not believe that this Congress will, in fact, end the war as we would like to, which is immediately and unilaterally and, therefore, if I were to speak I would say we would set a date and the date obviously would be the earliest possible date. But I would like to say, in answering that, that I do not believe it is necessary to stall any longer. I have been to Paris. I have talked with both delegations at the peace talks, that is to say the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the Provisional Revolutionary Government and of all eight of Madam Binh's points it has been stated time and time again, and was stated by Senator Vance Hartke when he returned from Paris, and it has been stated by many other officials of this Government, if the United States were to set a date for withdrawal the prisoners of war would be returned."

Furhter paired down to:

"I have been to Paris. I have talked with both delegations at the peace talks, that is to say the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the Provisional Revolutionary Government and of all eight of Madam Binh's points..."(kerry and his VVAW negotiated in Paris with the then enemy.)

Stated by kerry to Our U.S. Congress which is in the Official Congressional Record, 22 April, 1971.

I'll let ALL of you think your own thoughts about this, however, I cannot for the life of me, picture kerry in any elected office, never mind being Commander in Chief!!!!

Why kerry was not indicted, tried and convicted for Treason and Sedition under the appropriate Articles, We will never know.

The Media SHAMELESSLY hides this TRUTH(In the Congressional Record, dated 22 April, 1971) from the Public!!!! They are equally Treasonous and Seditionous as kerry is!!!!This Blatant Example of the media shows that we no longer have a FREE and TRUTHFUL Press(Straight ALL the Way LEFT of Center)!!!!

kerry had his VVAW which led to the deaths of thousands or hundreds of thousands of deaths in Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia after he and his VVAW accomplished their mission in getting U.S. withdrawal in South Viet Nam. kerry and his VVAW forever tarnished the image of U.S. Viet Nam Vets!!!!

The Democratic Party is no longer the Democratic Party!!!! For them to select kerry and his two forunners Clinton and Gore show they have become the party of our enemies!!!!

We cannot ALLOW this to STAND!!!!

Kerry slandered America's military by inventing or repeating grossly exaggerated claims of atrocities and war crimes in order to advance his own political career as an antiwar activist.

It's funny when Kerry is confronted with accounts like these -- which are a direct consequence of his constant touting of his military heroism -- HE'S THE ONE who acts as if he's being slandered.

One must truly be capable of Orwellian double-think in order to be a Leftist.

People forget that the radicals of the time weren't so much upset about what was happening to our troops. They were upset at what was happening to the enemy troops. The most common chant at a demonstration was "Ho Ho Ho Chi Minh, NLF is gonna win!" VietCong flags were everywhere. The idea was that America is a racist, imperialist, and capitalist power, and the world would be a better place if the communists won. Mao's little red book was very popular.

I would be very surprised if Kerry's forbidden book didn't extol the virtues of communism over capitalism.
