Cipel Says Deal With McGreevey Was Close Golan Cipel's Spokesman Says Deal WOuld Have Stopped Lawsuit

Aug 16, 2004 10:58 am US/Eastern TRENTON (AP) Just minutes before Gov. James E. McGreevey admitted last week that he is gay and will resign, the lawyer for the man accusing the governor of sexual harassment believed McGreevey would pay to keep a lawsuit from being filed.

Allen Lowy, the attorney for Golan Cipel, on Monday said a verbal deal that would have stopped the filing of a lawsuit was struck with McGreevey's attorneys five minutes before the scheduled start of the news conference where the governor announced he had a gay affair.

"We had a deal," Lowy said. "The next thing I know my secretary told me he's in the process of resigning.

"I was very surprised. I understood that they were satisfied and it was over."

Given that the Guv's poll numbers went up despite his blatant and arrogant corruption shows that the Guv's cynical ploy to gain public sympathy was very successful and the smart move for him.

When will the truth be revealed re: the gov's corruption? Was that really his wife standing stoically beside him during his "outing" press conf?

Five minutes before the news conference was a little late.

People knew hours before that he was gay and he was resigning.

How do you put the cat back in the bag when the whole world knew at that point? Maybe the lawyers were just gathering evidence to turn over to prosecutors.

McGreevey cost the State big bucks. A prominent Pennsylvania candy manufacturer was ready to buy naming rights to the New Jersey Turnpike, but that deal had to be cancelled. >:o

Cipel is every bit the liar that McGreevey is.

Believe nothing that comes out of the mouths of Cipel, McGreevey, or the gaggle of professional liars that surround either of them.

The real story will only be known when the FBI is ready to start issuing the indictments.

Maybe they can be roomies in Rahway.

Those poll numbers will drop when the electorate lets it sink in a little bit and, as the news media in NJ is begining to state he must go now.

We should have been tipped off when he changed the state bird to the swallow and the state flower to the pansy, and then raised the NJ terror alert to lavender.

Yeah, but only in New Jersey, the state the Main Stream Media goes home to every night.

The press is still covering for McGreevey. It pretends that the Cipel affair is the first instance. It is not.

In New Jersey, the 21 Democratic County Chairmen are the barons with substantial power. One of them holds his political power and financial benefits because his business partner is a homosexual lover of the Governor. Unlike Cipel, this one is well-known to political insiders and to the press in New Jersey, but not reported on. (We wouldn't want to harm both Democrats and homosexuals at one time, now would we?)

As usual, the press are not doing their job competently and completely.

WAIT A MINUTE!
Wasn't this the last day for Cipel to file his sexual harrassment suit against McGreevey!?
Boy did Cipel get strung along!! He thinks that he's got everything all set and now he's got nothing! No possible harrassment money and no blackmail money either! Jerk.

Did he have any back-up?

That could be the reason why McGreevey wouldn't roll over...

I am thoroughly uninterested in anything that comes out of, or goes into, any of these sleazy, corrupt mouths.

Here's something to consider: McGreevey said he had an affair with another man, yet Cipel says he isn't gay. What if McGreevey was speaking of ANOTHER affair, and not Cipel?

The real scandal here is that McGreevey hired his completely unqualified boy toy to be head of New Jersey's security just months after the attacks at the WTC killed over 600 New Jersey residents on 9/11/01. That not only shows how little McGreevey gave a rat's butt about his duties as governor, and about the security of the people of his state, but may have damaged the security of NJ and the major port it shares with NYC.

McGreevey's actions were and remain a monstrous betrayal of the people who elected him. It is not about sex. It is not about gay sex. It is not about marital infidelity. It is not about garden-variety corruption. Rather, it is, quite literally, a matter of life and death.

McGreevy was just covering his butt (no pun intended). I'll bet Cipal's attorney is a Dem and got paid by McGreevy to draw up the "extortion" papers.
