Just one month after the U.N. and EU launched a furious campaign against Israel's security fence, culminating in the International Court of Justice ruling that the fence is illegal, the EU announced it's planning to build a separation fence of its own, and invited Israel to participate in the construction.
The fence is being built to separate recently added EU members Poland and Hungary from their new neighbors – Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The EU said the fence is necessary to "prevent the free movement of migrants seeking to enter" EU territory.
Israeli companies that specialize in the construction of fences and security systems will participate in tenders to build hundreds of miles of fences along the EU's new eastern border.
"It's incredible the EU has no problem building a fence just to keep illegal immigrants out, but when the Jewish State builds a security fence as a last resort for the purpose of keeping terrorists out and saving Israeli lives, we are blasted by them and the U.N.," a spokesman for Ariel Sharon told WorldNetDaily. "Makes you think, doesn't it?"
Israel's publicly traded Magal Security Systems, which participated in the construction of the West Bank security fence, is expected to sign a cooperation agreement for building the new EU fence and its attendant command-and-control systems.
The ultimate contract is estimated to be worth several hundred million dollars. Each kilometer of Israel's fence cost $1 million to build. Bases, sophisticated transit points, and observation and command-and-control systems cost $2 million per kilometer.
In July, the U.N.'s high court ruled Israel's security fence, which is credited with keeping suicide bombers out, violates international law and must be dismantled.
The court, which Israel maintains has no jurisdiction over Israeli matters, ruled "[it] is not convinced that the specific course Israel has chosen for the wall was necessary to attain its security objectives."
A week later, the U.N. General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted a resolution demanding that Israel comply with the world court decision and tear down the security fence. Most European countries voted against Israel.
"European hypocrisy is as rank as it is blatant," Daniel Pipes, director of the Middle East Forum, told WorldNetDaily. "And the EU wall is not even for security reasons, just economic ones."

Exactly. The Eurotrash want to keep the poor out. That's a flimsier excuse for a wall than one built to keep terrorists out. Israel certainly has the moral high ground on the issue.

I'm not sure it is European hypocrisy that is rank. I once sat beside a Frenchman on a 14 plus hour flight from Johannesburg to Hong Kong. He was pretty rank. Not sure if he was a hypocrite or not.

Some things are beyond parody.
What a hoot. The socialist mantra has been 'no walls' for quite some time. In the US folks have been trashed inceasantly because they wanted tall walls to stop this nation from being invaded. Tens of millions and still coming, we still haven't gotten off our asses to do anything about it.
Israel puts up walls to stop the brave adult Palestinians from hurling their exploding children into the nation, and the EU goes berzerk. The ICC has a hissy fit. Kofi laments the sadness of Israel's dasterdly deeds.
We live in an age of mental illness. Masses of people cannot discern which is worse, evil or the reaction to it. Terrorism isn't worth fighting against, because it is worsened by attacks against it. Invasion is preferable to demanding it stop and putting and end to it once and for all. Bombings of targeted mothers, children and old ladies is less objectionable than walls to put an end to it.
This old world must be winding down, because I have a hard time believing this type of mass psychosis could be a sign of anything healthy.

I think Poland and Hungary have a bit more sense than the typical EU member. Not everything they do they'll do for the EU (wow, that rhymes!).
They admire Isreal's fence, and want one like it, and aren't afraid to say so. Let's not jump on common sense when we see it.
Now I get it. It's not the Israeli wall that the EU objected to, it was the route of the wall, going well into the West Bank.
Where's the hypocrisy in that? Is the EU also not building their wall on their own soil?

The admired it so much that in the UN general assembly they voted with everyone else in the EU condeming Israel's counter-terror fence and demanding that Israel destroy it?
I'm still convinced that this is what we're going to have to do on our southern border, manned by all those returning troops.
Well, well. Maybe some of the undesirables the EU wants to keep out are Muslims. Maybe the EU is finally waking up to imminent danger. Amusing that they're building a wall, though. What a bunch of poseurs.
