CONVENTION PROTEST LEADER WON'T RENOUNCE VIOLENCE (against NYPD, Delegates & City residents!)
Newsmax ^ | 8/17/04

Posted on 08/17/2004 10:36:22 AM PDT by areafiftyone

A leader of one of the major protest groups planning to disrupt the GOP convention said Monday she will not instruct her members to refrain from violent attacks against New York City police, delegates or city residents during a planned 250,000 person march on the night before the convention.

Referring to planned protests as "a battle," Tanya Mayo, national coordinator for the protest group "Not in Our Name," told radio host Sean Hannity that her group alone has 30,000 members, but that other groups could swell that number by hundreds of thousands during a planned march up 7th Ave. to the area around Madison Square Garden.

Contending that there's "a real hatred" for President Bush's agenda, Mayo said protesters have a right to assemble in Central Park after leaving the Garden area, a plan that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has banned.

Asked if her group would "follow the rule of law" if Bloomberg's ban stays in force, Mayo told Hannity, "I think it's ironic that you would ask that question when we've got a president that actually has sacked the rule of law."

"Look, we've got a gang in the White House right now that are rounding up immigrants, putting people in detention," she insisted. "Trust me, [Bush] is a bad guy."

The rest of the exchange went like this:

HANNITY: Will you be non-violent with the police?

MAYO: I'm gonna answer that in the best way that I can. I can't answer it as a yes or no answer. What I can say, is . . . .

HANNITY: Wait a minute, wait a minute. You can. Will you encourage people in your protest not to be violent with the police - yes or no?

MAYO: People are concerned with the fate of the people of the world . . .

HANNITY: Yes or no? Answer the question, Tanya.

MAYO: If you want to do this interview and you want to hear what I have to say, then allow me to answer the question. . . . If people are concerned about safety and disruption in the streets, then we need to actually look at who will be held responsible for something like that. And that's Mayor Bloomberg and his administration for refusing the right of people to assemble.

HANNITY: Now I'll ask the question again. Will you encourage your members to be non-violent?

MAYO: I think our members are a very diverse group of people and individuals will have to make a decision what lines they choose to cross at any given point.

HANNITY: But as a paid leader of the group "Not In Our Name," as a leader of the peace movement, will you encourage members in your group not to be violent?

MAYO: Like I said, those things will unfold as the days come and we'll definitely give you a call back if we have any other answers. . . . We have respected everything up to this point. The only people who have sacked the rule of law are the gang in the White House.

Hannity should have said:

"Its obvious that this 'peace' organization will not promote peace so I will publically forewarn law enforcement that this group will engage in violent protests."

They are claiming a 1/4 million will show - does anyone have any recent events where similar numbers were predicted and what the actual numbers were? I have a hard time believing this number. It is hard enough to steer a few thousand in the same direction to believe this type of count.

I also think that the inclusion of other groups will give this charlatan a way of saying that it wasn't her group that 'rioted' but that her group was arrested for the actions of others.

Those who refuse to support and defend a state have no claim to protection by that state. Killing an anarchist or a pacifist should not be defined as "murder" in a legalistic sense. The offense against the state, if any, should be "Using a deadly weapon inside city limits," or "Creating a traffic hazard," or "Endangering bystanders," or other misdemeanor.

The NYPD is the best force in the world to confront these knuckleheads. They deal with this crap all the time, though usually in smaller numbers.

They will politely tell you to move. If you refuse, you will be arrested. If you resist arrest, you will have your ass kicked.

After your arrest, you will not be jailed exclusively amongst your trustafarian brethren. You will be sent to the bowels of Riker's Island, to live amongst the regulars.

And when Daddy's lawyer shows up to get you released, there will be problems with the paper work and an incredible backlog due to the obvious circumstances. By the time you are released on bail, you will have spent four days being re-educated as to the reasons you don't ever want to be arrested in NYC, and the convention will be over.

Actually, it seems to me New Yorkers will tolerate just about anything, including terrorists flying airplanes into skyscrapers. That's the only conclusion I can come to given the fact that New Yorkers will vote overwhelmingly for Kerry-Edwards in November.

We see yet another significant difference in conservatives and liberals. During the Democratic Natl Convention protestors were basically well behaved and did not threaten violence. They showed complete respect for the Convention goers and the city of Boston. Now you have the Liberals, a group of people who have no respect whatsoever for anyone or anything. And if they do something wrong, of course it is someone else's fault. These people are self-absorbed, ignorant fools.

Dennis Prager has David Horowitz on his show. Horowitz was saying that he thinks violence is a pretty fair bet depending on security. But he also says that violence will only help the republicans.

I think a lot of former "centrists" allowed themselves to be dragged off to the left. Now that they're there they aren't comfortable. I think violence at the convention will send a lot of those uncomfortable leftists running for the center.

Knowing a little bit about how these groups work, they will use violence, but only to try to incite violence. They'll do things like throwing things at cops to get a reaction. They want nothing more than pictures of the big, bad, NYPD beating up peace protesters. They'll go out of their way to try and get footage that makes the cops look fascist and NY look like a police state. They think this will play into their whole Bush=Hitler propaganda campaign.

So we have to fight fire with fire. Look for cameramen, journalists, and TV crews (especially TV crews) and antagonize these idiots. Get them to shout their stupid slogans, get them to say stupid things, and if you can take one for the team and get them to smack you. Fake blood helps (hey, they use it!) If I was closer to NYC I'd be there.

New York is going to be a lot dirtier than normal when all these smelly, dirty, unkept hippies come to town.

But I agree with you on the NYPD. They are the best.

They should throw these hippie-war mongering law breakers in the tombs for a while and lose the key in the bureaucratic process. That will teach them for not following the law.

Now why in the world can't they all be arrested for this? The First Amendment does not protect sedition.

It kills me when these people talk about how much they are for peace and put down violence as "violence promotes violence" yet she cannot answer plainly if they will be non-violent! Isn't that why they are against President Bush? Because he's for war and thus, promotes violence? Yet they will be violent.

Unbelievable!

LOL. Ive thought the same thing myself. I'm disabled but generally don't use my chair. It would be fun to go to an anti war rally. wheel myself into a crowd and give them a hard time. I would get someone to film the poor wheelchair bound cripple under attack from the tolerant leftists.

Unfortunately I'm not real even tempered and would likely stand up and proceed to kick somebodys butt.

I know the cops will be particularly at risk, and I wish them the best. I have a number of friends on the NYPD and more on the Port Authority force, who I'm sure are doing backup.

I can't even imagine the unholy beatdown that will befall the first "anarchist" that they see aiming his slingshot at a police horse. There will not be an inch of skin left on their body without a purple nightstick welt.

The police know who will be messing with them, but I'm not sure the trustafarians are as informed as to the nature of their enemy.

The thing that amazes me is the attitude of appeasement by City Hall. Mennino in Boston was right -- put the filthy freaks in cages on the West Side highway dammit.

Companies in the city are making plans to let people work from home, etc... How about forcing the mayor to be more vocal about what will happen to demonstrators, how about some threats coming from city hall... how about a set of balls Bloomberg. Ugh, he disgusts me.

I heard they will be chaining themselves together to block traffic again and that by doing that they will keep the NYPD occupied trying to cut thru the chain thereby letting other protestors incite more violence. A leader of one of the major protest groups planning to disrupt the GOP convention said Monday she will not instruct her members to refrain from violent attacks against New York City police, delegates or city residents during a planned 250,000 person march on the night before the convention.

Contending that there's "a real hatred" for President Bush's agenda, Mayo said protesters have a right to assemble in Central Park after leaving the Garden area, a plan that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has banned.
from "The True Believer":
Hatred is the most accessible and comprehensive of all unifying agents. It pulls and whirls the individual away from his own self, makes him oblivious of his weal and future, frees him of jealousies and self-seeking. He becomes an anonymous particle with a craving to fuse and coalesce with his like into one flaming mass... Mass movements can rise and spread without belief in a God, but never without belief in a devil... Common hatred unites the most heterogeneous elements. To share a common hatred, with an enemy even, is to infect him with a feeling of kinship, and thus sap his powers of resistance... We have it from Hitler... that the genius of a great leader consists of concentrating all hatred on a single foe. [pp 85-87]
