Good question. Also, I think Runyon is one of the cats that is supporting Kerry.

If so, one would think that one of the guys supporting him has completely undercut the supposed severity of Kerry's injury and brings into question whether that was deserving of a Purple Heart. Ironically, this is precisely what the Swift Boat Vets have been contending since earlier this year.

So, Runyon says it wasn't anything but a "scratch": ok.
Then, any of the Swift Boat Vets makes this contention: Repulican witch hunt.

There couldn't possibly be a double standard here, could there?

We have come to the point that we don't know what to believe with this guy. It is looking more and more like he has a mental problem.

Speaking of good memory, here's something on Josh Steiner:

Link:

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/whitewater/june96/damato_6-18.html

June 18, 1996

(excerpted from Senator D'Amato's statement summarizing the report of the Senate Whitewater Committee that he chaired)

Former Treasury Chief of Staff Josh Steiner, confronted with damaging evidence in his own handwriting, claimed that he was not telling the truth to his own diary.

This is part of #11 of Hook's Top 50 unethical acts of the Clinton Administration. A cached google page with a full description is HERE.

Some more Googling reveals the following about A Josh Steiner, who may not be THE Josh Steiner, but the likelihood would appear to be very high:

-- Links to an investment firm's site (a reward for falling on his sword, perhaps? "We'll let you get into the investment banking field if protect us.")

http://www.quadranglegroup.com/mainoverview.html

Quadrangle was founded in March 2000 by Steven Rattner, David Tanner, Peter Ezersky and Joshua Steiner. Prior to forming Quadrangle, they worked together for a number of years at Lazard Frères & Co. LLC where they were Managing Directors and Steven Rattner was Deputy Chairman. Peter Ezersky and Joshua Steiner were the two Managing Directors running the Media and Communications Group and David Tanner, who had 12 years of private equity experience at E.M.Warburg, Pincus & Co. LLC, was co-head of Lazard Capital Partners, the firm's private equity business.

http://www.quadranglegroup.com/steiner.html

Prior to founding Quadrangle, Mr. Steiner was a Managing Director of Lazard, where he was a member of the Media and Communications Group and worked on advisory and financing assignments for clients in various industries including electronic and print publishing, television and radio broadcasting, telephony and data communications, online distribution and content, and cable, wireless and satellite video distribution and programming. Mr. Steiner received an M. St. in Modern History from University College, Oxford University, and a B.A. in History from Yale University.

Kerry seems more like a mental patient than a candidate. Although, I guess sometimes you can't tell a RAT candidate from the average mental patient.

Maybe this would help him ---

CAREFUL, everyone - I am as fierce a critic of Kerry's lies and exaggerations as just about anyone, but I don't think it is clear that THIS one passage proves anything about the issue of the 1st Purple Heart. Everyone seems to take it for granted that Kerry's diary sentence meant they hadn't been shot at yet IN THE WAR, whereas I think (and Kerry's apologists will probably say) that all that this sentence means is that they had not been shot at ON THAT DAY, ON THAT PARTICULAR MISSION. It's at least plausible, if not likely, that the sentence in question is only meant to be cheery because the mission started out calmly.

[Kerry]"...because we hadn't been shot at yet, and Americans at war who haven't been shot at are allowed to be cocky"

I would not want to see this particular diary issue become part of the public case against Kerry, because it's one that might be rather easily explained away. I do share the belief that Kerry's first nick of a wound was self-inflicted, based upon what Adm. Schacte said about it, but I don't think this diary passage actually lends the support that the article assumes.....

It has to be all over.....Hillary/Clary 2008

Maybe it is over. If so, the rabid Dem's primary decision to go for "electability" over Howard Dean is sure looking stupid, as is THEIR failure (and that of the mainstream media) to vet THEIR candidate over at least a 9-month period.

Dean may be extreme, but he's passionate and would have offered the once-and-for-all stark contrast to make this election a referendum.

If Kerry weakens a great deal, I'm afraid W will coast and not define himself, explain himself, and inform the country on an ongoing basis. This would actually help Hillary in 2008.

Who is Clary?

Cockiness is a day-to-day thing? If you were shot at one day, at what time the next day would you be cocky if you hadn't been shot at yet that day? 9 a.m.? Noon? Five p.m.?

The "that day" excuse is the one they'll pull out.

It's awfully weak, and won't pass the stench for all but the rabid true believers, the ABBs, who are beyond help anyway.

We need to start a pool: When will John Kerry declare he is withdrawing from the presidential race because he had a homosexual affair?

There is no need for a pool, hillery has already warned us of an October surprise.Kerry is toast.

Well, the bottom line is I hope Kerry is forced to respond to this.

It seems unlikely to me that he will be able to convince many people that he felt "invincible" after going only one or two days without being shot at.

But, that being said, it still seems unlikey to me that anyone would be convinced that he "won" any of his medals. So you guys could very well be right.

I am going to pop an ice cold brewski and see how this all shakes out. Cheers.

"The DIARY LIARS, that's who--people who have written personal accounts of their thoughts and deeds in life who later testify that they didn't record the truth wheh they documented these thoughts and deeds. "

That would make them the authors of LIARIES, a talent of those affiliated with the leftist wing of the DemoRATic party.

Does anyone remember the episode of M*A*S*H where Frank Burns puts in for a Purple Heart after being hit by a shell fragment? It turned out to be an egg shell fragment, which hit him while he was boiling an egg.

Could John Kerry be a Frank Burns?

I tend to identify Kerry more with Corporal Klinger, who was always trying to trump up a Section-8 Discharge to go home early.

I agree it's weak, but if this detail gets in front of the MSM I expect they'll jump all over it to interpret in Kerry's favor. All I'm saying is, in debate with the Kerry-lovers, I don't find this will be one of the more convincing points (speaking just of this one sentence in the diary).

fwiw, I'm not a vet (came of age in the 'Peanut' Carter era of the late '70s, thought a lot about volunteering or even going to one of the academies, but President Peanut Carter made me doubt the future direction and supervision of our military at that time.... fortunately, that was righted rather quickly after 1980.....

BUT, my uncle, who is/was career US Navy (retired as a Commander after 25 years flying and then training new pilots off carriers) says that everyone he knows in his circle of retired Navy vets in San Diego loathes Kerry and what he stands for - the kind of shallow glory-hound that pimps around for his own benefit while neglecting fundamentals.....

IMHO, there are no Kerry-lovers, only Bush-haters.

[Kerry]"...because we hadn't been shot at yet, and Americans at war who haven't been shot at are allowed to be cocky"

As a Vietnam vet that served at Cam Rahn Bay for 9 months, I can tell you there was not a lot of combat activity in the Cam Rahn area. The primary threat that we had there was from rocket attacks and sappers(elite VC that penetrated into installations to set explosive charges). Cam Rahn was relatively safe as far as Nam was concerned.

be advised Bill Crystal said that the weekly standard is doing a COVER story by Fred Barns on the Swift Boat Questions that need to be asked TO KERRY

Hope they ask him about just how often they had firefights with the enemy.
Might also be a good idea to find out how many PH's the Swifties got(for their TWELVE month tours).

Good point! Plenty of people in the MSM seem to fawn over Kerry, but no one really feels affection or truly high regard for him (not even Ter-AY-sa!). The 'Rats and the MSM have seized on him as what they thought would be the best weapon against Bush, and it will be hilarious to watch their reactions as the Kerry campaign (I hope and pray) goes into full meltdown soon.......
