The May 8, 2000 article from U.S. News & World report reproduced below begins by stating that John Kerry conducted clandestine forays into Cambodia during the Vietnam War to deliver weapons to anticommunist forces. Because that statement isn't a direct quote of Kerry, I contacted the reporter, Kevin Whitelaw, this afternoon. Whitelaw still works at U.S. News & World report where he covers foreign affairs and intelligence matters.
Hugh: "Did John Kerry tell you that he ran guns into Cambodia?"
Kevin Whitelaw: "That's exactly what he told me."
Mr. Whitelaw declined my invitation to appear on my radio program, explaining that he doesn't report on or comment on the presidential campaign.
Can we now agree that John Kerry has engaged in wild claims about his service? Since he told that tale to Mr. Whitelaw, who else has he told it to?

Wow. Another Kerry whopper, this from U.S. News & World Reports of May 8, 2000. Here's the entire article.
"Is a trial deal near? by Kevin Whitelaw
Sen. John Kerry made his first forays into Cambodia during the Vietnam War as a Navy lieutenant on clandestine missions to deliver weapons to anticommunist forces. When he returned last week, the mission was official, but dicey nonetheless. At the request of the United Nations, Kerry is trying to broker a compromise on how to try leaders of the former Khmer Rouge regime, whose late 1970s reign of terror claimed the lives of some 1.7 million Cambodians.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen wants to control any court looking into genocide charges, but U.S. and U.N. officials have demanded an international tribunal. "You can't have a situation where a justice system that many people view as inoperative will have the ability to trump the international community's consensus," says Kerry. Kerry is offering a compromise to allow for co-prosecutors and co-investigators. Both Cambodian and foreign judges would have to agree before an indictment could be thrown out. Hun Sen had initially accepted the proposal but ran into hard-line opposition from his political allies. Kerry anticipates a deal could be struck as early as this week.
Still, the parliament needs to go along, and many members of the ruling party (including Hun Sen) held low- or mid-level posts in the Khmer Rouge regime and might be reluctant to sign on. A legislative debate has been delayed until late May, ostensibly because of a termite infestation of the parliament building."
Where did Kevin Whitelaw get this stunner about running guns to the anti-communists? Somebody find him and ask.
Hillaries fingerprints on the flung ashtray again............?
We must contact Kevin Whitelaw and tell him he should talk more about this issue, (Bet Kevin is a Dem who doesn't want to see his man Kerry go down in a sea of lies...)
Check this out!
Thanks for the ping. I've heard Hugh talk about this and he is all over it. Is Kerry a sociopath like Clinton? What the DemocRATic party has been producing lately in its candidates is frightening for this nation.
the reporter told Hugh that he doesn't do interviews in public but did answer the questions posed to him as you've posted.
Read some of the snippets Wild Irish Rogue has collected and posted on a couple threads - they are collected from various biographical pieces and confirm Kerry is far beyond Clinton's lying and deviousness; rather they go to a man who is thoroughly delusional and has deeply embedded demons that keep him from sleeping at night, lead to violent fits & convulsions, and, we & Theresa now know, were not drawn from fictional wartime gun running excursions into Cambodia but, rather, they from the darkest reaches of his warped & convoluted mind.
wow. Another layer of the twilight zone and John Kerry
Here are comments from another thread: "Can we start accumulating info about any Kerry undisclosed medical condition?" in which the following was penned by Wild Irish Rogue:
I have listed the articles at the bottom of this post, where the Kerrys themselves and a family friend describe Kerry's behavior through the years.
After reading the words of John, Teresa and their friends, I came to this conclusion :
Kerry may suffer from- a depressive disorder -Kerry became mute and withdrawn after his first election lost in 1972.
PTSD-post traumatic stress disorder- Kerry told Brinkley in " Tour of Duty ," that he began sleepwalking and having nightmares in Vietnam.
Teresa told the Rolling Stone in 2002 and The Washington Post in 2003 that Kerry had nighttime frenzies where he "banged on the walls " so loudly-it can be heard rooms away, he screams out and flails around so badly, that she fears he will hit her. Kerry's daughter,Alex, via Teresa's interview validated the nightime banging and screaming.
NPD-narcissistic personality disorder.
A pattern of grandiosity, excessive need for admiration, entitlement, admiration and constant attention.
"A narcissistic individual has a shifting morality--always ready to shift values to gain favor."
"Their tendency is to form friendships or romantic relationships with only those that can enhance their self-esteem or advance their purposes."
His two marriages.
"A narcissist presents a false self to the world."
Kerry's whole life history is a mish mash of events and fantasies that don't mesh with reality.
"Under his inferiority is a preoccupation with fantasies of outstanding achievement."
Kerry's medals, Purple Hearts and war time feats.
"The narcissist uses others to aid him in any tasks he undertakes and will frequently take credit for work which others have done."
Many examples in " Unfit For Command."
"Lying is an integral part of the narcissist's behavior and all their self-reports are unreliable."
) David Brinkley and others who think Kerry's diary is true-take note.
"Narcissists will over inflate their own accomplishments, are boastful, and pretentious."
"They frequently will compare themselves to people of great accomplishments and are surprised when others do not agree with them."
"In fact, it is not unusal for the narcissist to compare himself with God."
From Kerry's diary ,Page 244, "Tour of Duty "- after comparing himself to Winston Churchill, Kerry writes his mother-
" Besides, I am so conceited I do not believe the gods would create so potent a being as myself for so prosaic an ending. "
"A narcissistic individual expects favorable treatment from others and wants automatic compliance with his requests."
"For instance he does not feel he should be made to wait in line and expects to be the center of attention."
The Boston media and Hugh Hewitt are replete with examples of Kerry pushing to the front of a line.
Unfit For Command is devastating to Kerry.
I can't stress that enough.
Kerry's entire Vietnam history appears to have been a total fanstasy-unsubstantiated by the facts.
A complete and total fantasy.
Although we joke about Kerry's wild claims of meeting with world leaders and members of the UN Security Council and going to Cambodia-
Kerry's mental health can no longer be overlooked and hidden by the MSM.
The serious question that now must be asked is Kerry schizophrenic or even suffering from multiple personality disorder.
Which is why I believe his campaign refuses to release his miltary and medical records.
Because I can't be the first to notice Kerry's pattern of delusional and depressive behavior.
"Tour of Duty," David Brinkley-
Kerry's diary-"War Notes "- depression,documents Kerry's break from reality
April 11, 2002
"John Kerry,Ready For his Close Up "-Paul Alexander
depression, wall banging, screaming, nightmares, PTSD

Nighttime rages, flailing and screaming out, Teresa indicates Kerry has gotten psychotherapy, Kerry equivocates
"The Long War Of John Kerry," Joe Klein,The New Yorker, 2002
Kerry's old friend, George Butler details Kerry's muteness and withdrawal for at least a 3 day week end, following his election loss in 1972.
"The Making of a Candidate, Part Two- " Boston Globe, June 16, 2003.
Kerry's diary indicates he was so disconsolate after returning from his Christmas trip to Cambodia, that he hoped he would be court martialed.
Kerry's mental history must be examined and any history of psychiatric treatment, hospitalizations and medication therapy must be made public.
Wild Irish Rogue has some DAMNING posts about Kerry. Too bad the whole string couldnt be sent to interested news media.
Or could a Thread be started of Wild Irish Rogue's posts??
Welcome to FreeRepublic.com .....
As Grampa Dave says: "Christmas, 1968: Kerry with his Swift Boat Crew
in Scambodia. Kerry is wearing his CIA hat that came from Richard Nixon
a month before Nixon was sworn in as President."
I hope people start wearing Christmas hats to Kerry appearances!
"...Is Kerry a sociopath like Clinton? What the DemocRATic party has been producing lately in its candidates is frightening for this nation."
Yup. Scarey, ain't it, especially when the lib press (AKA MSM) is trying their best to cover for the creep and he ain't even the POTUS!
hehe! With "C.I.A." on them too, of course. :^D
Great stuff. Thanks for the ping.
That is a great idea!
Another point this article inadvertantly makes is the high quality of Kerry's diplomatic skill. The Khmer Rouge leadership is either dying of old age or running the current Cambodian government. The end product of Kerry's sensitive power diplomacy?? Success for Hun Sen -- no trials.
